I Swore… an Update (plus random Shetland Fact)

So after yesterday’s warping weirdness, I set upon them with my good lady’s hairdryer. I blasted them on nuclear heat for a while then held them flat on a cold ceramic tile, then into the freezer for a couple of minutes to remove any residual heat.

I think it may have worked, only time will tell.

Now for the random Shetland fact… did you know more flights are cancelled in the summer months than the winter months… the reason being….

Yep, it’s the fog/low cloud (not the Goose, I know we have ninja pyromaniac starlings, but less so with the Geese… to my knowledge no goose has ever nested under a bonnet). We can often be clear, but if Orkney has it then they won’t fly as it is the emergency runway.

This is what it looks like coming in on a good day… https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bzERXet6PoM&feature=share

There are better days than others…. (Don’t watch if you are scared of flying!)

Teeny Lizards Done

So my 6mm army is finished, well apart from the varnishing…

If truth be told, they were actually fun and easy to paint. Once I redid the crossbows they looked a lot better. So tonight I found the sons of Set army and got them resprayed.

I want to get some more practice in before I paint the samurai…

So I now have three armies to paint, these, the samurai and some wood elves. Oh yeah and another larger army on the way. I decided to give Baccus 6mm a go. They are supposed to be really good. I was lucky and managed to get an order in before the online basket shut again. More Samurai as I fancy doing a 6mm Samurai battle for the Games day in October.

I went for their army pack as well as a few other bits and bobs. I might even branch out into a different period…possibly Ancient Greek…

I Swore…

Lots and lots… I really don’t believe this!

For some reason the terrain bits have warped, the only thing I can think of is that they got too hot on the window sill, when I was trying to dry off the resin. It might be the case that it was the resin, but it had pretty much been cured for days and they stayed flat… I will try warming them up again and flattening them out…

Shetland’s Hidden Dangers

The hidden dangers in Shetland are real, I still don’t know how I avoided the fate of at least one other person every year… yes we have a secret lurker, just waiting for the unwary… we are talking about the dreaded …

Starling

Yep, here he is, like a little bright ninja saboteur! He causes more fires in cars than any other thing I can think of…

Little blighter had shoved this lot under my bonnet…

Luckily I had left my lights on yesterday and couldn’t drive the car this morning. I only found it when I went to jump start it this afternoon.

So be warned people, starlings are everywhere waiting for their chance to strike.

More 6mm Shenanigans

Tonight I cracked on and got a fair bit further forward with the Lizardmen.

I decided to redo the crossbows and they do look better with the lighter colour. I will get the bases all done tomorrow. I think once that flock has been added then they will look pretty nifty.

Weird time of Year

So last night, I needed to go out and lock the hens up to keep them safe from ferrets or otters. So I toddled off outside and decided to take quick video at midnight.

The Ipad struggled a bit with the light levels, but it definitely gives you an impression of what it is like up here. Midnight and we had blackbirds doing their evening chorus.

6mm Shenanigans

So tonight I decided to do a bit more with the teeny lizards. I wasn’t really in the best of moods for it, but I got on with it.

I don’t know whether I actually like these or not. It might be they are at that awkward stage or it might just be the blue. I haven’t really decided.

I think that one of the problems is that the crossbow wood is too dark, I am definitely going to have to get it redone a lot lighter. The other problem is that there is still a fair bit of white visible. Once that goes they may look better.

I decided to get the flash taken off the bottom of the wood Elves earlier too. I used a file and the came up a treat…

A couple of times up and down on that thing and they were super smooth on the base.

Birthday Present All Done

So today I set up the village and shrine with a few miniatures too.

I am really pleased with how everything came out. I was going to flock the edges of the pond, but decided against it. I may have a rethink tomorrow and do it anyway 😊

Another view of the same scene!

So that is everything done, including varnishes too. The only thing missing is the rice cart…

I also managed to get some more done on the 6mm lizards…

They aren’t looking too exciting at the minute and I think I may have done the crossbows a bit too dark, but we shall see tomorrow.

Shrines, Lizards and Pretty Skies

Today was a bit of a productive day, I have pretty much finished all of my mates birthday present. The Buddha and Tori gate have been neglected, so I gave them a bit of vegetation. I am not sure whether I like the bits on the statue, but it may grow on me. The last bit to do is the wagon with the rice bales on it..

I also managed to make a start on a 6mm Lizardmen Army, I decided to give these a go as I wanted to have some practice before I went for 6mm Samurai. I was thinking of doing a 6mm Sengoku participation game in the October games day (that is if it goes ahead).

Yeah the colours are a bit GW, but I couldn’t think of what other colour to do them. I will do a bit more tomorrow evening on these.

And finally, the pretty sky part…

It wasn’t too bad an evening…

Filling the Ponds and Paddies

So today I decided that I needed to get some water into the ponds and paddy fields and here is the result…

I added clear to the ponds then put a couple of drops of sepia ink into the paddy fields. This is the first time I think I have used a two part resin. I have used other stuff years ago… so absolutely no idea what his will end up like.

I also got all the miniatures and buildings coated in a couple of layers of Matt varnish. The shrine and fences have been coated too.

Hopefully by tomorrow I will know whether the resin pour worked 🤞

If it has I will get these flocked up to go with the miniatures. Soon I will be moving onto these.
