Tonight’s Officer

I got another officer finished this evening, this one was I a quite simple uniform with bit gauntlets and a cloak that meant there was no braid to be found anywhere…

So that is three down, two left…

We have an officer with his dolman thrown over his shoulder and a vampire officer next to him. I just liked the ‘gentleman about town’ look on this one.

I will try and get the ‘Silver bayonet ‘ beasties sprayed tomorrow and them might start with one of them tomorrow evening. I keep forgetting that I have two more days off as we had today off too…

Guard Lancer

Okay, to be frank, I cannot remember any examples in either literature or artistic renditions of elves being in the lancers, but this one evidently joined and no-one noticed his huge ears!

Tomorrow I will carry on with another officer from one of the Guard regiments.

I have three individual miniatures left to go from Alternative Armies followed by a sedan chair with armed occupant. In amongst these I will sort out the 3D printed miniatures too.

I am also considering getting some plastic pikes I can get 24 for £5.00 so it might be worth giving them a go as my concern about the metal pikes is that they will snap off the hands or arms if dropped. The plastic may have more flex.

I have also started getting a bit interested in the 2mm stuff again. I may be busy over the weekend!

More Work on the Elves

Okay yesterday, I foolishly said it was warm, but not South temperature… foolish me!

Taken in the garden at 11.00 this morning.

it was still 26 degrees at 18.00 this evening… anyway onto the elves…

They are pretty much done apart from the bases, so I did indeed manage to get them finished by the end of the weekend.

I am honestly not sure how I am going to base them…I might stick some of my home made flock into the coffee grinder and get it a lot finer. I will have to have a think.

So, apart from the shields, hair and the metallics, these were painted in contrast paint. I do quite like it for this scale, I am still a little ambivalent about it in 28mm. Tomorrow I think I will make a start on some 15mm Lizardmen. I have just remembered that I have a ‘Tin Soldier’ 15mm Aztec DBA army sitting there too. They would make a nice opposing force to the Scalians.

Shortly after taking the photo above – this happened…

These lucky ones hit the table, the unlucky ones hit the floor. I think they all survived.

Tomorrow I am helping my in laws dismantle a lean to and put another one up in it’s place. Wish me luck, if the temperature is anything like today I am not going to be a happy bunny. I have become acclimatised to a Shetland Summer.

More Work on the Elves

Today has been a warm one, nothing like the silly temperatures down South, but still warm enough for us. So this afternoon, as promised, we went of for a game of hide and seek in one of our few woods up here. I am pleased to report that my Ninja skills have not left me.

Anyway…Elves. I blasted on with these again tonight and managed to get them to the nearly finished stage. Basically weapons, metalwork, hair and hands to do and that’s them finished.

Looking closely at the actual bases, I have noticed that some have bi coloured trousers that need rectifying.

Hopefully I will get these finished tomorrow, then potentially move onto some 15mm Lizardmen (Battle Valour- Scalians) that I won at the HOTT tournament earlier this year.

Elven Update

Shading and highlighting to do but otherwise finished…

I am going to flock the green bits and add stippling to the brown bits to act as mud/earth.

Then onto the next lot…

Bucketloads more to go still in the bag, but progress is being made!

The printer is chuntering away in the shed making me a Starship Troopers objective 😉

Back to the Elves…Again

I cracked on again tonight and tried to get as much done as I could.

I started painting the bases with brown and then though sod it, they are getting covered anyway!

I downloaded so much stuff from Thingiverse today that I reckon I will need a whole kilogram just for the downloads 😂.

All to do with Sci Fi and starship trooperery type stuff… aka proxies 👍

I managed to procure a ST plasma bug, cost £25 but the other stuff I was bidding on went beyond £40 the last time I looked… just checked the Rippler bugs got to £67 and the Tanker made £38.50. I had a top bid of £30, but knew I would be blown out of the water. I did find a cheap plastic toy version of the Tanker bug from the states. I have seen some people doing good stuff with these so managed to get it for £4.95 plus £10 postage. Here’s hoping I don’t get clobbered with silly charges at this end.😱

Back To The Elves…

Change in scale and genre..

25mm sci fi to 10mm fantasy. I decided to get a bit more done on my elves. I am really struggling to get motivated with these, what makes it worse is I think I have the same, if not twice as many to make a start on. I have painted loads more 10mm than this lot and managed fine but these are really causing me grief.

As mentioned in an earlier post, I am doing a Facebook group challenge of 30 minutes a day for 50 days…. surely I can get these finished in that time 😱

A really short post today as I am absolutely cabbaged… long day that I have been worrying about for weeks went off pretty well…

Forlorn Elves…

They were sitting there, staring at me and making me feel guilty so I painted some more cloaks…

nearly lost the will to live but pushed through the barriers of whatever was stopping me getting on with them.

The printer has returned to the shed as the temperature has warmed up enough, it’s funny not hearing it working away. Before it moved out there I printed a couple more bits and bobs.

These are upscaled from 18mm ones. I was after some more proxy bits for Starship Troopers. The big one is a proxy for an M-4A1 Grizzly Exo suit and the smaller one is CHAS (Cybernetic Humanoid Assault System)… these appear in the Roughneck series and not in the films. The CHAS needs to be a bit bigger, but will do as a starter. Both of these were from Ill Gotten Games.

Painting Things…

I actually managed to paint things this evening…

I got half the cloaks done on the elves as well as pouches and their base colours on the faces.

I then managed to get some paint on the mausoleum… still a bit to go on it but definitely getting there.

The mech also got some work done on it, he wanted it grey with a blue canopy… the red missiles come next.

And finally… not painted, but a bit smaller than before.

I reckon he still looks quite impressive even at 75% size.

He here is feeling like he is part of a hive…

I reckon a dozen or so more will be in order for our up and coming RPG. I just have to find some hopper bugs and a Tanker……

Neglected Miniatures…Un-neglected

I paused long enough in dismantling and reassembling the printer to get some paint slapped on the elves…

Still a fair old way to go but I am getting there again. I have decided that they are all going to have dark grey cloaks. I was thinking that another mass of differing shades of green on the cloaks would be a bit too much. It also groups them together as a unit.
