Valhallan’s on the way

Tonight I played with my daughter on Ark and then had some tank combat on War Thunder so I was quite pleased that I managed to actually do anything.

I lightened the coat a bit and also made the grey less blue. The test colours went down fine with my mate so once this one is done I will make a start on the rest.

New Toys, New Toys

Yes, today the postman drove his quad down my ice covered track to deliver my 2D6 Kickstarter samurai force, well technically Ikko Ikki.

I was very good and waited until I had sent a few emails and contacted a member of My staff before opening them….

Miniatures in the little box and resin buildings in the baggies.

So I was a bit surprised by the size of the little box and thought it was very light… so I opened them and had a mooch. Inside bubble wrap, inside a paper bag were these beauties…

They are really well detailed but as I looked at them I began to remember someone saying they were very small 6mm so I went and got my Baccus ones out to compare… and they are indeed teeny tiny in comparison…

By mistake I put the Baccus one in the box with the 2D6 one and was worried I would spend an age looking for them amongst the rest…..

Nope…Easy Peasy! They were so much bigger.

Anyway onto the resin houses, these are they type found in The mountainous regions of Japan. They have really high, steep sided roofs to help shed the winter snows. There are three houses that are the same and a little shrine. It was upon looking at these that I noticed another slight discrepancy regarding size…

That is the new stuff stood next to the doorways… not a biggy as they would work with 10mm too 😉. The Baccus ones would look better next to it. These are the original Mura miniatures ones that have been given a new lease of life by 2D6.

So anyway from being very excited about these I have been left feeling a little flat and a bit meh too. But no doubt once they are painted and based then they will be fine. They will become a force of diminutive monks and peasants who shall fight to keep their mountain home free from invaders (either that or they will sit in the box for five years (or 20 if my Irregular ones are anything to go by).

Restarting the Valhallan’s

Today was about trying out some colours on the Valhhallan’s.

The coat will be a bit lighter and the blanket a different grey (I think) but the basic colours are how I envisage them to be. Black boots are the order of the day too. You cannot see it but the canteen is green and the pouches leather brown. I will carry on with him tomorrow and see where we get to.

Valhallan’s Back to Square One

Well tonight I made progress but to be honest I wasn’t really happy with it…

They were all at this stage when I decided to call it a day on this way of doing it and got the white spray can out again.

I also decided to spray these three as I wasn’t happy with the brush on undercoat.

Tonight I do Seem to be unhappy with just about everything.

Today is a very sad day for the Uk as we have now lost 100000 people to Covid. This has come about by the total mismanagement of this Tory government. Now I am not saying deaths would not have occurred, but that bumbling Buffoon who blagged his way into number 10 needs to be taken out and publicly flogged. All that money to the Tory chums wasted on PPE that didn’t exist or was useless or whatever, failed track and trace, bribing people to eat out, I mean for fuck’s sake. Eat out in a fucking Pandemic, are they out of there tiny minds, That smarmy bastard had the audacity to stand up today and make a statesmanlike speech about how much we must value the NHS workers who gave their all, the same NHS heroes that he and his chums fucked over by not giving them the PPE they needed and then refused to give them a pay rise (while at the same time clapping for them). Sorry about the swearing people. Those of you who have followed my blog will know I don’t as a rule swear on it, but I am steaming… I am so angry today with what we have achieved, when he stated the uk was going to be number one, I really didn’t think it would mean in dead people.

I think I need to go and lie down in a darkened room, with chillout music playing. Hopefully a day off tomorrow will get me back in the right direction again.

Apologies once again for the massive rant.

Korsucan’s Finished

After the angst of painting the Sisters of Battle these were an absolute pleasure to do. It might be that there were only four of them or maybe it was they were a bit chunkier or even that I needed a change, but whatever reason I really liked doing them.

They still need a couple of coats of varnish, but the painting is done. Because I had only a bit to do I also got some more done on the mounted squire as well as this lone werewolf…

I also had a jolly good look for another Chaos Knight to paint up, but sadly he was nowhere to be found, and in hindsight I actually think that he was already painted… in black armour, from what I remember. Anyway I had a rootle through the HeroQuest box to see what I could find and decided to have a go at these three. Sadly nowhere near the one painted years ago, but at least a similar style.

I will see what I can do with them when I get around to it 😂. I will get them undercoated tomorrow and then make a start on Wednesday.

I will get the Valhallan’s started tomorrow too. I will be using the brush on undercoat to get some of the undercoat back to white to allow for the Contrast paint.

Painting Styles … Old and New

I was having a mooch for my Old Brettonian waterslide I can across a rather ancient figure from HeroQuest I think … so without further ado, here he is…

Look at hose totally flat colours and unfinished base… (nothing changes there then). I remember being really proud of him. I even wrote on his chest piece… move on a few years and I think I have improved… (the paint colours definitely have).

So here are the Korsucan’s getting close to being finished. Metalwork, skin and hair and they are pretty much done, apart from the usual touch up after I notice the mistakes in the photo… talking of which I just have! Anyway with a bit of a push tomorrow evening then I think these will be done (apart from the base of course).

I have just had a thought there after looking at the original mini. I should find the other one and paint it now and see how they compare. Own challenge accepted!

Fantasy, Sci Fi and an Upside Down Walker

As it was a nice day apart from half an inch of snow I decided to get the things my mate wanted painting undercoated. So I mooched around and found some Zandri dust, now this is a lot darker than I thought it was going to be so I will struggle with the Contrast paints on them.

Now if you look at the walker you may notice that it seems to be propped up on something and that there is some definite Greenstuff in view… so there is a little story about that. When my mate originally built it he put one of the legs on backwards so with a bit of shenanigans I managed to remove it and turn it the right way round. Being extremely pleased with myself I superglued it back together and waited until it had cured enough and set off to spray it… it is true that pride cometh before a fall. I was just giving it the last squirt of undercoat then I noticed that my mate had put the light facing downwards. Now I hadn’t noticed this before, then I realised that the missile was also facing down, I thought it was a spare and turned the turntable to spot the missile on the top… at that point the horror of what I had done sunk in… never mind a backwards leg, I had put the whole bloody armoured box on upside down. What I thought were the guns were actually the twin exhausts! So it was then a case of cutting the whole thing apart and then trying to get it to go back together again. Superglue wasn’t working so I went for Greenstuff instead.

So there it is the right way up and curing… I will trim the GS tomorrow and sort out anything else that needs doing too…

I also managed to get some painting done on the Korsucan’s…

Definitely less white than there was yesterday… please note the stain below the handle… guess which pillock didn’t put the Contrast paint into the safety holder thingy. I looked like I had committed a murder.

These chaps need their boots, straps and shako done black. I will get on with that tomorrow. Whilst painting these chappies I decided to watch the film Assassin’s Creed, really wish I hadn’t what a load of confusing tosh. Not sure what to watch tomorrow, but anything has to be better than this. Now I really enjoyed Tomb Raider and Prince of Persia and various other game films but this was just way too confusing.

Tomorrow I hope the finish the elves and then make a start on the Valhallan’s.

New Toys, Things to Paint and Sisters in the Wild

Yes the sisters escaped into the wild before they were rounded up and shipped off to Scalloway, there they were traded for others who would soon face the same fate!

I got this lot to paint next…

There are also the Karskin’s that I painted about ten years ago…

Here is my reward for doing the painty paints (as my kids used to say)…

Not a bad deal from where I sit 🙂. I am going to get the Flintloque minis I started last night Finished first and then I will make a start on the Valhhallan warriors first. At least I do not have to build these… huzzah!

Finished with the Sisters… I Think

So this evening I got the face masks done as well as the rim of the bases and I think they are done now…

Well when I say done, I want to add some vegetation or something to the bases and then get everything varnished, as well as sealing the sand down.

I also made a start on my elf Rangers. These are basically Corsican’s (or Korsucan’s in game terms). So they will be In green jackets with red turn backs and snazzy blue trousers.

I made a start on the mounted squire too, well I needed to test the jacket colour on something 😂. I stuck some other things on bases too. We have an Othari and a dwarf on the strip too. The finished horse is I. The background too.

Hopefully the weather will allow me to spray more things white and others things in varnish… wish me luck as I am more than likely to do it the wrong way round!

Sisters Coming to an End

Yes at last the Sisters of Battle are nearly finished. I worked on them some more this evening and got to within spitting distance of the finish line. I thought I had just about finished painting the miniatures when I realised that I had left all of the rebreathers unpainted…

I will leave the waterslide transfers for my mate in case he wants something different. So I need a quick edge done tomorrow and the masks and unless something else leaps out (which it probably will) then these should be finished tomorrow evening.

So what have I learned from this lot… we’ll a couple of things straight off… first get the bottom half painted at the very least before adding them to the base, secondly leave off the backpack thingies as it means I can get in easier…these figures have nice flowing robes, but they are a bugger for getting the basing stuff on, so maybe even do the bases first.

So anyway I hope my mate likes them and I should be able to get the next lot on Friday afternoon.
