New Reading Material

I never got anything painted this evening as I was busy reading my new books. I have been waiting for the first one for an exceptionally long time. I. missed it first time around and never saw it again on anywhere, but the other day two popped up on EBay so I blagged them both. One for me and one for my mate. £15 well spent…

Duel allows you to play a character from one of the Elvish forces in Valon. Duels are for personal and regimental honour. I haven’t really looked at it properly, but I did enjoy reading the background fluff.

The second book was my kickstarter from long ago, it got sent on 18th December but sadly all of the ones sent that day disappeared. Luckily I was able to obtain a replacement and it came today too…

I do like making terrain and have some ideas for a new diorama. I will show you the end results when it appears.

I have found another series that I like… Snow Piercer… basically post apocalyptic daftness, set aboard a perpetual motion train that is 1000 cars long. I have pretty much binge watched the whole of the first series and am onto the second. This came about by me choosing something new or different to watch on Netflix.

An Ork, a Dwarf and Some Valhallan’s

Walk into a bar… well okay probably not. Tonight I got some more work done on the above.

Not really much to see, I did the webbing leather brown and added the green to the headwear and water bottles. Still a long way to go, but it is definitely more progress than of late.

I am probably closer to finishing the three Alternative Armies ones than any of the Valhallan’s.

Valhallan’s Off we go Again

Tonight I booted myself up the backside and sat down and did some painting. I managed to get them moved forwards a bit. Still a long way to go, but definitely heading in the right direction.

I will need a second coat on the green of the hats and equipment.

Snow is still lying, which is a bit unusual, the last time it was like this was ten years ago. We still have another week of it at least.

More snow heading out west…

Not Much Achieved

Tonight the Northern Lights were meant to be visible so I was outside getting hypothermia trying to spot them. There were more snow showers about which blocked the view North. The stars were quite multicoloured so I reckon there was something happening… lots of photos on Facebook. Living in the bottom of a valley can be a disadvantage…

Winter Camo… a Success

Well as it is still a bit snowy outside I decided to take the walker out for a bit of photo shoot in it’s unfinished state… evidently it is quite effective 😉

Funny but true, I actually lost sight of it in the IPad camera app and actually thought I had missed it.

Luckily the missile is going to be military green with a black warhead. So won’t stick out like a sore thumb.

Tonight I worked on it a bit more and got it to the nearly finished stage.

The lighting was a bit harsh, so the white has caused a weirdness that isn’t really there in reality. I will get it photographed in natural light tomorrow. I also painted the boots of the Troopers this evening too…

When I base this up I might add clumps of snow, but will check with my mate first to see what he wants.

Valhallan Winter Walker

This evening I decided to mess around with the colours on the walker. I added a military green as well as some white to give it a snowy, foresty kind of a look…

I will add some black-green to the green bits too to darken them. I think it might actually look okay.

I am not so sure about the colours on these, but I am trying to follow the brief…

They still look a bit weird as there is a lot of white still visible. Once that disappears then I will be able to see what I think. The rest of them haven’t moved since yesterday.

Return to the Valhallan’s

Tonight I named to get some thinned Dow Contrast paint onto the Valhallan coats. It wasn’t a huge amount but with family things etc I didn’t really get much time.

The walker in the back is going to have white stripes of camouflage (I think). This is where the light tan is. Hopefully I will get back into the swing of things tomorrow.

First Miniatures of 2021

Well, Ann set up aPainting Challenge for the first miniatures of 2021. These were started and finished in January. My original intention was pick something at Random, but my good mate Eric over in the states shared a picture of the GW Green Knight and as I had one already stripped I decided to join up with him and paint the same miniature. In the pot with the Knight was the herald and I had a dozen foot squires so I decided to do a trio. If truth be told so cannot actually remember which was finished first.

I had a few problems along the way with the Contrast paint going over the brush on whites I had. It wasn’t (going over the white) and that became the problem… it is really obvious in the photo below.

The lime green colour is exactly the same as the rest of the green to the left of it.

When I originally decided on a colour scheme it wasn’t going to be green at all, but all of my tests just looked naff so in the end the Green Knight became, in fact, green. Sadly his original shield and back banners disappeared long ago.

I am really pleased with how they came out. I did make a start on the mounted squire…you can just about see him in the background of the photo below.

To avoid issues with the brush on white I went for artist’s acrylic, but eventually went and bought a pot of GW White.

Sea Monsters, Idiots and Snow

I managed nothing this evening, my daughter an I were expanding our domain on Ark so I decided to give things a miss, however now that I am writing this I may do something in a bit.

Exciting news from Shetland… you may have heard of the Loch Ness Monster, but have you heard of the Strom Loch Monster… I has photographic proof that it exists… see there he/she is rising through the ice.

It has been a bit chilly of late, and because of this our lochs have frozen over. This sadly has led to people trying to remove themselves from the Gene pool, by strolling out into the middle and one of them actually smacked the centre with a pole or something! Problem was that once people see one set of foot prints, they will follow. Thankfully two guys were down there tonight smashing up the ice where people can get onto the loch easily. If you look at the picture of the boat below you will see how easy it is to just walk onto the ice.

Spot the knacker’s on the loch. Depth there is about 5 metres. These were two adults who decided to explore the frozen wonderland.

Every loch on Shetland seems to have a tale of people going through the ice and dying, sadly some within living memory.

The sun was shining on the snow today so it gives a nice photogenic scene…

We normally have warmer winter temperatures, but for the last few weeks we have been cold, over the last week sometimes sitting at about 1*C and then dropping to below freezing over night. As you can see from yesterday’s 18.00 temperature it got cold again.

Batch Painting Valhallan’s

I got my test model finished this afternoon and sent a photo to my mate. He was happy with the look so tonight I made a start on the rest…

Here he is out in the snow like a true Valhhallan should…

Now there is nothing more annoying in batch painting ten models than to look up and realise that you have only done seven! Luckily I was only missing the trousers before I realised.

I will carry on with these this weekend and see how far I get…

So in a bid to broaden my film horizons I decided to watch something I hadn’t seen before. The first was Lucy, which although a bit weird I really enjoyed. The second was Maze Runners into the Scorch or something like that (made a lasting impression evidently). Now on this one I learned a very important lesson. Never start on the second film in the trilogy or you really won’t have a clue what the heck is going on, and finally I cheated a bit with this one as it was Crocodile Dundee. I haven’t seen it in I don’t know how many years. I loved it then and I still do now.

Some of of my AustralIan chums might have a different view of it, but I do like it. I remember watching a lot of films back then with Paul Hogan in. Evidently he did some tours in Australia. His TV Series would never, ever get on the telly now 😂.
