Today I found some EPVC that was very handily pre cut, so I ended up making two ‘things’ to paint a number of miniatures on the painting handle. The problem is that the plastic base I used was rounded and doesn’t really sit that snugly in the cradle. But without further ado, please find painting strip 1.0…
Upon saying the above, the base does hold itself in there, one just has to make sure it is in the right place before painting begins. The minis are just bluetacked onto the Plastic and there is enough room between them to get the brush in. I decided to go for two smaller ones than one longer one as I felt it would become too unwieldy.
So the miniatures above are the last three to go. Okay the little weird cherub needs doing but he is pretty much there compared to the rest of them.
All of them still have bits and pieces to paint, but they are getting close to being finished now.
I managed to get some paint done on some more of the Sisters this evening… this had the added advantage of CAKE!
Just a small piece for me 😉
So after scoffing the cake, which was very yummy, I got on with some more work on the ladies and managed to get quite a bit done, problem is quite a bit in this situation was a lot of fiddly bits. Something is better than nothing I suppose…
After a few days of feeling I was getting nowhere, I suddenly felt like that there might be an light at the end of the tunnel. They still have a very long way to go but I now feel like the corner has been turned. That is now seven of the ten are at this level of completeness. I really do think that psychologically it is because I have painted the hair.
Now I still have a whole load of things left to paint for my mate, this includes the Cadian command squad and some Ice Troopers I think, these are the metal ones (I hope) so no fiddly builds.
I really do think that I need to come up with a process or some kind of organisational system to get things painted in a sensible way. Whereas I quite like jumping about it means that things don’t get finished. I have a box of resin prints still sitting there, the printer hasn’t been on for weeks now and I am making a conscious effort not to turn it on as, truth be told I have too much crap printed already. I did have to slap myself a few times to avoid printing the new Wargs and Goblins from the Printing Goes Ever On…
Tonight I didn’t really get a lot of time to get some painting done as I was playing Tiny Epic Dinosaurs with the kids…
I then managed to get a smidge done on the miniatures… sadly when it came to the red, I was merrily shaking it only to find that the top wasn’t on properly. My hand looked like I had severed an artery somewhere!
I bet you cannot tell where I placed the pot when I realised it was leaking everywhere. Anyway, as I said not a huge amount done, but I did the leatherwork and added some more red to things. The yellow monstrosity on the right hand miniature will be repainted with alacrity!
Sadly I still have another six to paint, and I also forgot to use the mini holder… in hindsight this was the reason I didn’t get one in the first place.. it had dawned on me then that I tend to batch paint colours and in dosing so would probably spend more time getting miniatures in and out than actually painting them.
So I have this conundrum and would like to know why no one seems able to cook umber properly…
Another week of teaching from home begins tomorrow, going into work first thing, but mainly a week sat at the kitchen table answering emails and messages from the kids.
So both Eric and Roger commented to say That they thought that the Sister of Battle had very small heads, now I had wondered that when I was building them and though that in my case it was an optical illusion due to the wide shoulder pads…(flashback to Dallas and Dynasty there)… anyway I had a mooch in my miniatures and came across a plastic Space Marine Scout and a Primaris and put them next to each other for a comparison…
They do indeed have teeny heeds! Now to start off with I couldn’t find the Primaris, so thought that the older chunkier miniature might have a bigger head due to the moulding process, but nope the little sister has indeed got a smaller head than the Primaris. Now I have no idea as to why this is, my good lady is 5 feet tall and I am 5.10 yet we still wear the same sized riding hat, must be all her PhD brains in there. So why do sisters of Battle have little heads? I will compare when I get the guardsmen to paint from my mate and see if their heads are any smaller.
Tonight, whilst painting, I watched Doomsday, a rather silly post apocalyptic film, but enjoyable nonetheless. It did mean that I got some more work done on the Sisters…
As you can see I got some armour wash onto the back two weapons, I will sort the others tomorrow. Mainly tonight was painting white. I learned an important lesson in this process. Leave the backpack thingy off until the end, to make painting easier. I would have done the same with the arms, but as they were an absolute nightmare, I stuck them down. The other thing to remember is actually leave the base off too, that way getting up under the robes is a whole lot easier… we’ll we live an learn as the saying goes.
Today I had to go into town and decided to get a pot of GW white paint 🙄 as it is a bit thinner than my craft paint and would be easier to paint on, I noticed one of those GW painting handles and thought that as I was painting a lot of 28mm at the moment then I would give it a try…
Problem was I forgot it was there, and I forgot about the white paint too! Me excuse is that I am a knacker!
It is quite comfy in the hand, what I am going to do is is somehow fasten a piece of wood to a plastic base and then use it to hold a number of miniatures as taking them in and out is annoying… wish me luck.
As my kids are still awake, I may have to use this Larson Technique from the Far Side.
Technically it should be Paint Them Black, but I like the song so now you know.
Yes tonight I decided I had better make some progress on the Sisters of Battle…
That seemed to be the longest painting session ever, Ten miniatures painted black. I would seriously hate to do an army… on the up side the Contrast paint went over the white craft acrylic without a problem.
These things have annoyed me from day one of their builds, hopefully things will improve soon. I am now off to watch a video on how to highlight black.
I was going to get some colour on either the squire or knight but decided that I really couldn’t be bothered.
As I love the far side, I thought I would share another one that I got sent… pretty much sums up my day today…
If this title doesn’t get a sudden influx in views the. Nothing will 😂😂😂😂.
This evening I sort of finished this little lady off…
The other thing I managed was to sort out the mess of the metal horse…
This took a lot of Greenstuff to fill in all of the gaps. I don’t believe this head was meant to be on this body, but I had it and it worked. I was going to put a knight on it, but now that I have this lovely lady I think a change of rider is in order…
SadlyI cannot find the original lady for the mount, so needs must….
Tonight I was busy doing bits and pieces. I decided to paint anything, that needed undercoating white, with artists acrylics. This seemed to work as my short lady has taken the undercoat and Contrast paint have worked well.
As I am going to be using Contrast black over the grey undercoat I decided to dry brush the sister miniatures to allow for a bit of auto highlighting. In some cases I think I went a bit over the top!
I also built a Grail knight standard as well as the vampires horse . As I had splooged a bit too much white out of the tube I undercoated everything that I could instead of wasting it 😉
I also put my knight on a revolving thing to let you see him…
Tonight I worked on him and his chaps a bit more and nearly got him finished. I will take some proper photos in the light tomorrow.
I am going to try and find my Brettonian waterslide transfers and add some fleur de lis to the shield and the trumpet too.
I made a start on the lady from my Alternative Armies haul from Mike. I think I will repaint her skin as although she is meant to be a member of the Halfling native foot. I just don’t think it works.
The other lady was a Games Workshop one… I am not sure whether she is a vampire or a Brettonian…based on the sword design I would go with the latter.
I also am being side tracked again… more than likely going for an ancient campaign, we only started this conversation about 12 years ago… these were painted then 🙄…
Tonight after various shenanigans I managed to get some paint onto the Knight and entourage. This was mainly gold to be honest…
I feel like they are starting to come together now. Still always to go, but a good old way towards finishing. I reckon if I cracked on tomorrow I might even get them finished.
My mate came up with a deal today when we did a little video chat. If I paint up the rest of his GW stuff then he will give me his Aliens Gear, that seems a good deal for me as he has some stuff I cannot get anymore and also has an APC. Talking of his figures…
I also got some black added to the sister of Battle. I forgot that the gloves need to be white, but you know…
That highlight on the cloak needs sorting out… it looks great at six feet…honest!
We did have some snow today and as per normal the gritters came at around 11.30 this morning as we are category 3. The joke here is that the graveyards get done before us! Anyway so for all you Australian types and people in other warm places…. I give you Snow… sadly not a huge amount, but enough to make the place white…
