I didn’t get a huge amount done on the Greeks tonight, but I did re fix about half a dozen back onto their bases and then make a start on the heavies…
I think I am going to do them in groups of four bases at a time so that it doesn’t feel like an uphill task… probably will anyway 🥴
My order from Geek Gaming arrived today and I want a bit of advice as to what basing material to use…
These are The Mediterranean base ready and the Arid base ready. I really like the Mediterranean one as it is brighter, but in reality it would probably look more like the one on the right… my other option is the paint the base brown and put patches of foam flock on as I have done with other ones…
Okay, these are 10mm but you can see the idea…
I also got the helmet sprayed with a filler spray and then a black undercoat, I will see about getting it painted this weekend.
Tonight I got the old helmet outside and put a sanding disk on and got rid of the weird welded look, problem was the gaps were still there in some places which was a right pain… so anyway after a bit of head scratching and, to be frank, swearing. I came up with a plan to try and cover it with PVA…
Hopefully it will cover the cracks… I also smoothed out the rough foam and rounded out bits to make them more natural looking… it really helped with the eye sockets.
I also managed to get the light Infantry just about finished…
Of course I do have my trusty reference material handy 😂 I actually bought this years ago as I was doing some stuff in Greeks in a school and wanted some useful snippets of information.
Today was a busy one, I added three double sockets to my Wife’s office. She had been working with a long extension, so it really needed doing. I got into a rage only a couple of times, First was when the previous owner had stripped a screw on the socket face and I couldn’t get it out, second was when the trunking decided it wasn’t going to allow me to get the front back off, any other time you look at it and it falls off, but not when I wanted to.
Even with my tribulations, I managed to get things painted tonight…
In case you are wondering… Donkey died, Stavros cried, Inky, Pinky, Ponky… so this evening I continued with the Ancient Greek support elements and finished (I think) the baggage train…
These actually took longer to do than I thought they would… But at least they got sorted. A random goat seemed to have sneaked into the cavalcade too. I just realised that both of the humans are walking away from it… evidently it is a very smelly goat😉.
I also made a start on the cavalry force… or should that be Forcette?
Obviously the Companion horseman shouldn’t be with the earlier lot, but hey, he was free, so he got painted.
I am going to try and get The horsemen done tomorrow and then will make a start in the psiloi, before moving onto the heavies. It would be good if I could get them finished in a week. I managed it with the Aztecs, so here is hoping.
Tonight I was a bit pooped, as I didn’t sleep too well last night, but nevertheless I decided to paint something simple, so I made a start on the Ancient Greeks and did the goat herds…

The slinger is evidently there to drive off the wolves. So as you know I said I wasn’t getting anything more till I made an inroad on what I already had, as I technically made an inroad on the Greeks then I bought myself some transfers for the shields. My original plan was to paint everything by hand, but as I want them done fast I thought better of it… unfortunately when I was purchasing the shield designs my hand must have slipped and I inadvertently purchased some pipe players and a cart pulled by onagers to go with the force.
I picked up the helmet half a dozen times this evening, but put it back each time. I really couldn’t be bothered to get the foam clay out and set to work on the gaps. I have noticed a few YouTubers using Scroll Saws to cut the foam. So as I have an rather old one in my shed then I thought I might give it a go and see what happens.
Today has been a busy one and I bloody ache!. We have only got the ceiling to do on the conservatory now, we have everything we need so we are going to crack on with it tomorrow. In between cups of tea and hammering I got this little thing printed from Iain Lovecraft’s frost…
This gibbet has a corpse in it (not sure how I am going to paint it). I am printing a different one off right now. I also managed to get a smidge of painting done on the Chaos Marines…
As I was painting them it suddenly came to me in a flash of … of.. what the **** am I thinking about now… these guys must have bespoke armour, the chances of finding someone (or something) that has spike coming out of the same bit is highly unlikely. So if Mozarg the unclean has his armour blown off then how on Earth or planet Mogadoooo for that matter is he going to get another bit. Sorry random bollocks break is now over.
I also managed to get the War dancer printed… however sadly the mage is still armless, I also snapped the foot off the paladin….
For some reason I printed the same lot off again so now have two of the witchhunter etc. The zweihander snapped on the Lanschnect …again. Tomorrow if the weather allows then I am just going to print the Mage and see if I can add in some other supports.
Unfortunately the heater in the shed packed in today, tripped the RCD and caused both printers to stop, the resin one, which had been temperamental all day restarted itself and the Ender restarted where it left off. Because I had been in the bath when it blew, I had to let the temperature come back up again. In this case I had to snip off a lump of filament where the print head had stopped. It seems to be going okay, my only concern is that it is going to run out of filament overnight… wish me luck!
Today we are in the eye of the storm so it has been relatively calm, it is blowing back up again tomorrow. So The kids decided they wanted to go and hang out in town, the two eldest went off for a mooch and my son and I went to Tesco… his choice not mine. He had compiled a recipe list and tomorrow he is making us sticky toffee pudding.. so I really cannot complain. I also went and got some more Contrast paint… it suddenly dawned on me that I now have the entire range apart from one colour… looks like I quite like them.
I managed to get these printed…
The left hand side of the smaller two is for a mate at the club. The big one is a mash up of the right hand top and an open tomb from somewhere else. I put these together in Cura to merge them. I love the open tomb as it has a skeleton inside and also a removable sword… the guy said that he did it as any RPG group is going to take the sword so it might as well be detachable. The open one will go into my ‘Mordheim’ town. The biggest problem I had with these was a naff top layer…
Now I can probably either turn on the ironing option in Cura or add some more top layers. I will have to have a think which it will be.
I managed to get some painting done too…
I am certainly making slow progress on these. I will have to work on the tentacles and claw hands but I am sure I will get there soon.
Well the expected snow and wind came and today proved to be a bad day to be a bus driver…
70mph winds and snow, never a good mix. I had t go into town to help my mother in law fix her sink and nearly had the 4WD going sideways too.
I got my first ruined building printed, this came from the Frost Kickstarter by Iain Lovecraft…
I was going to print some other things but sadly, the printer decided it was too cold. The above building comes in three bits, ground, first floor and roof. I am going to add a floor into the second level to allow for miniature placement. The whole thing took 31 hours to print. But as you can see – it is quite large.
I also managed to get some painting done this evening, not a huge amount, but there was Progress happening…
I actually tried to photograph four miniatures here!
I went back over the tentacles and spines on the Nurgle lot with white as well as giving them a layer of Contrast Skeleton bone.
I also spent some time today messing around with the old 3D Builder as well as seeing what the heck I actually had regarding the 3D Printers.
So after, going on about how I couldn’t be bothered to do anything this evening I started watching one of the resident Evil films and needed up getting this far with this chappy…
I will redo him at 85% some time but for now he is something to paint. talking of which, I have eventually called it over on my first pot of my Contrast Black Templar. It has eventually run out to be more truthful, or is more like tar than Contrast paint. I will no doubt need to replace some of my more used ones soon enough too…. oh yeah, so much for the early night plan!
So yesterday, I said that today I was going to paint something, in fact anything… well I kept to my word and actually did a fair bit. First off I sprayed various things…
Now there were some spaying annoyances to deal with, first off my grey primer turned out to be an etch primer… luckily I realised as it had a different nozzle. I gave it a try on the small ‘goat shed’ to see if it would work. Luckily I had other cans of the basic grey so the rest got done in that. Then I moved on to spaying things white. I warmed up the can, I shook the blazes out of it and it came out like a watered down version. If you look at the right hand photo above you can see what I mean on the green and orange miniatures. It eventually came good on the grey. Now it might just be a bad batch or the coloured plastic needed going over with a different colour first. I sprayed the top of the mini tower white and it seemed to work fine. I will have another play with things tomorrow.
I also managed to get these three just about finished…
I need to sort out the bases, but apart from that they are done. I really enjoyed painting them to be honest.
I also got a bit more done on the Genestealer cultists as well as some other bits and bobs, mainly the original scouts…
I also got the hole in the roof finished too, so hopefully the leak of leakyness has buggered off, only time and heavy rain will tell.
Tomorrow I have the tyres to change on the car, but I am also hoping to get a start on the lighting and then ceiling insulation.
