Yes the printer was busy last night and again tonight and I got some heads printed off. They are rather nice, except a couple of them seem to have only one side to their neck. The other thing I printed were some more militia bodies, a couple of them had a bit of bad luck and only ended up with one leg, the crossbowman only has one foot. And typically the ones I have already printed successfully came out fine!
I added some of the heads to the bodies. Can be seen above, there is also a sigilist with a very large quill.
My intention is to transplant a foot from the one legged man to the crossbowman.
I also managed to almost get the chaos marines finished…
I really think the turquoise tongue needs to go, it just looks weird.
Today I sorted out another set of weapons only to find that the spear was in the left hand, the ball and chain snapped again, but the shields are now three for three…
I decided to print the heads as I said I would, the printer decided otherwise, I fought with it for about 40 minutes before it gave in and let me do anything.
I attempted o contact Anycubic, however this was not as easy as it would seem, the First Lady to reply said as it was a technical issue then to contact the tech department on the link she sent, so after giving my name, where I got it from, the tag number etc, etc, etc. I duly filled all of this in and entered the code, which failed and the form did not auto save, after about 8 tries I gave up and re contacted Natalia, who came back and said she would fill it in for me, providing I gave her my name, where I got it from, the tag number etc, etc, etc. Hopefully something will come of this as I am honestly spending more time trying to get a resin printer to print something than I am fiddling with an Ender 3.
The heads are still printing, so here are the first of my militia at 85% full size….
I really did, well technically I printed myself an ass, or perhaps it is a donkey…
I also managed to get a successful print of the 85% dwarf and Ranger. I did a militia miniature too, just forgot a left hand! More importantly, I actually managed to get the 85% mage done along with the elf archer. I tried another shield with added supports and it still failed, as did a spear for another militia mini.
One of the biggest problems I have is working out what the different bits of the miniature looks like, so at Lunchtime I basically opened the bits up in 3D builder and took a screen shot. I now have a reference to allow me to build the various bits from this set.
I also managed to get the FDM print done. It took 20 plus hours, but I am pleased with it…
The roof comes off the cottage too…
I cracked on With the conservatory and have got the ceiling finished. I ran out of longer nails for the nail gun and couldn’t get them locally so I had to fasten the thing up by using a hammer and brads… oh ye gods I ache now! I cannot actually move my right arm without yelping…
Today was also a day of weather…
These two photos were taken half An hour apart, there was about half an inch of snow down. We were cutting insulation and had to pack in as the snow was just covering it faster than we could wipe it off. So we went in for a cuppa and came back to a total lack of snow and bright sunshine.
Today has been a busy one and I bloody ache!. We have only got the ceiling to do on the conservatory now, we have everything we need so we are going to crack on with it tomorrow. In between cups of tea and hammering I got this little thing printed from Iain Lovecraft’s frost…
This gibbet has a corpse in it (not sure how I am going to paint it). I am printing a different one off right now. I also managed to get a smidge of painting done on the Chaos Marines…
As I was painting them it suddenly came to me in a flash of … of.. what the **** am I thinking about now… these guys must have bespoke armour, the chances of finding someone (or something) that has spike coming out of the same bit is highly unlikely. So if Mozarg the unclean has his armour blown off then how on Earth or planet Mogadoooo for that matter is he going to get another bit. Sorry random bollocks break is now over.
I also managed to get the War dancer printed… however sadly the mage is still armless, I also snapped the foot off the paladin….
For some reason I printed the same lot off again so now have two of the witchhunter etc. The zweihander snapped on the Lanschnect …again. Tomorrow if the weather allows then I am just going to print the Mage and see if I can add in some other supports.
Unfortunately the heater in the shed packed in today, tripped the RCD and caused both printers to stop, the resin one, which had been temperamental all day restarted itself and the Ender restarted where it left off. Because I had been in the bath when it blew, I had to let the temperature come back up again. In this case I had to snip off a lump of filament where the print head had stopped. It seems to be going okay, my only concern is that it is going to run out of filament overnight… wish me luck!
Today was another rotten day, wind up to 60mph and snow. You would imagine on Shetland that we would be used to it, but in fact it is a bit unusual, we will have one or the other, but not normally both. After yesterday’s bus incident, it was nearly a case of me joining them. We were running a bit low on feed for the horses so I braved the elements to get it, actually going into town wasn’t too bad, coming back was a nightmare. I was pooling along at 30mph like a good boy and came up to a long drift, as soon as my wheels hit it the wind caught the car on the side and caused it to shimmy, meaning the back end decided that it wanted to go first. Luckily there was nothing coming the other way so I managed to go wide and come back onto my side of the road. No harm done, but I did need to change my underwear when I got back.
It certainly isn’t a good day to be a sailor off Shetland too…
So when I came back we had a power cut for a couple of hours, my family were lovely and rushed to warn me that the printer would not be working. I got some bits and pieces sliced. I would not however want to be the man up the telegraph pole trying to get the power back on in 60mph winds, so Kudos to them.
It was so cold that I couldn’t even use my squirty foam to sort out gaps in the insulation in the conservatory. I just realised that I could have actually lit the fire in there and warmed up the foam… ahhh hindsight is a great thing!
This evening I did manage to get some painting done, just about finished the cultists as well as the Flamboyant dwarf…
Whilst pa noting these I chose a random Netflix film… ‘The Silence’. I can honestly say it wasn’t much to write home about, and this is coming from someone who will watch pretty much anything. I just got to the point where I thought it was getting to the main part of the film and realised that it had 16 minutes left.
Well the expected snow and wind came and today proved to be a bad day to be a bus driver…
70mph winds and snow, never a good mix. I had t go into town to help my mother in law fix her sink and nearly had the 4WD going sideways too.
I got my first ruined building printed, this came from the Frost Kickstarter by Iain Lovecraft…
I was going to print some other things but sadly, the printer decided it was too cold. The above building comes in three bits, ground, first floor and roof. I am going to add a floor into the second level to allow for miniature placement. The whole thing took 31 hours to print. But as you can see – it is quite large.
I also managed to get some painting done this evening, not a huge amount, but there was Progress happening…
I actually tried to photograph four miniatures here!
I went back over the tentacles and spines on the Nurgle lot with white as well as giving them a layer of Contrast Skeleton bone.
I also spent some time today messing around with the old 3D Builder as well as seeing what the heck I actually had regarding the 3D Printers.
I am feeling a bit under the weather today and have struggled to get motivated to do anything. I did however manage to prize some miniatures off the printer…
85%, 90%, 92% and 100%… I put them next to Percy and as Mikko said, 85% is the one I went with…
As expected the weather turned, 60mph winds and snow. This morning it was 8 degrees, this evening it is – something and feels like -15 because of the wind. This is one of the reasons I think that caused my prints to fail…
The mage is missing an arm and the wardancer is missing a leg. The Paladin second from left is missing a foot, but that was my cock up, luckily I realised and had to hunt though the waste bin to find it! Next to her is a witch hunter.
Once the temperature rises then I will redo the failed two. I also managed to do some crows from my LOTR Patreon…
Hopefully I will feel a bit more motivated tomorrow… an early night should help… and finally, my son has been busy again… tonight’s tipple was butterbeer from the Harry Potter Universe…
Yes it really does. 1.5mm flex shouldn’t be used when 2.5mm is the standard and you cannot mix and match miniatures when they are a different size.
On the electric front, everything now seems to be working fine, thanks for all of the positive vibes yesterday. I did however lose the front plate that has the built in WiFi extender…luckily that is now found, so I will get it fitted tomorrow. We are meant to be getting snow and 50mph winds…oh yipppeee!
I printed off the chappy (I couldn’t be bothered to try and work out how to spell the name of the German mercenary with the big sword) and the mage.. they came out really well…
I decided to put the bloke next to my original RPG Character, Sir Percival Fanhard… He is definitely a tall chap
So this evening I took the same file and scaled it at 80%, 90 and then 95%. I will find out tomorrow if there is a match…
In my first teaching job, I had a lovely deputy head teacher called Anne Standish. She worked with the little ones and used to have a great saying… if it was a crap day she would give it to the queen. So Your Majesty, please accept this day just for you.
So you are no doubt agog to find out why… today I decided to get some more done in The conservatory… I wanted to get the lighting electrics in, before getting the ceiling put on. I had to drop my eldest into Lerwick so picked up the lighting cable I needed. I got home and set about adding the lighting to the mains power … it was then that the swearing started. I realised that my 1.5mm lighting cable was the same size… as… the… 2.5mm cable in situ. Yes.. knob Head hear had put the wrong cable in. Luckily the sockets that were in there had low power devices on them. It did however mean that I had to remove one wall that I put in.
I then realised that I needed 2.5mm cable as I had a full reel of 1.5 mm. The reel of 2.5 was totally gone. So back to Lerwick I went…So my 20 minute job took a lot of the day. I then realised that I had set the printer going and then turned off the power Two and a half hours into a four hour print…. I swore some more!
On the upside, I got some miniatures printed eventually… they had something bizarre going on….
Now this is a first… I think what happened is that I set the cleaner on cure instead of clean. Being inserted in a bath of Isopropyl and then cured probably caused the problems.
Here the three of them are (minus their hands)… they are printing now.
These are really big miniatures. I had hoped I could squeeze them in with some of my GW Mordheim miniatures, but they are too big. My based leader only comes up to their shoulder. I might play around with the scale of them… to put it into context, here is one of them next to my Chaos Marine…
Speaking of Chaos… I made a start on the three I am giving to my mate…
So now that I have my printers up and running again then I thought this Meme was quite appropriate!
Well my printer has just passed its 25th hour straight. Another five and it should be finished. I took a couple of photos, there were going to be four barrels, but two popped off the build plate early on and one of these dropped off right at the end of printing. For some reason the little building which is 40% it’s original size (my goat shed) has warped on one corner…
I also decided to try something a bit more complex this evening and gave a helmet a go… it certainly leaves a lot to be desired, but hey you have to start somewhere.
I need to practice vertical cuts and make sure that I spread the contact adhesive out more evenly, but it is mad of some sheets of EVA that I have had for at least three years, so no harm done. I am still amazed that this came from a flat sheet of foam. The bit on the top is going to be a top ridge with built in nasal guard. I will make cheek pieces and a neck guard too.
On a totally different subject, this is my 601st post in a row. Probably 500 more than there should have been I hear you cry! However, I have had 25000 views and 8018 visitors. Which is pretty awesome. So a big thank you to everyone who pops in to look and leaves a comment too.
