Lots to paint.
To avoid complaints from the kids I am painting the Ferach as well as the dwarves and Trollkin so that there can be no accusations of favouritism on whose gift got painted first.
They are a bit further on now, but we’re just back from Jumanji which we all loved. Down side was running over a sheep on the way to the cinema. Daft thing suddenly leapt out in front of the car when we were on an icy road ☹️
I ordered a double sided mat
Mel the terrain tutor did one of his sessions on the different types of gaming mats available. This is something I had been considering for a long time. My biggest problem was I wanted to run games set in both the desert and in more temperate climes. I didn’t want to buy one of each, plus what were they like, which Company was best? Luckily Mel’s vid helped loads. I was able to see which companies there were and what they were like. In the end I went for a GAMEMAT.eu as these were selling double sided ones. My conundrum of wanting both desert and grass was solved.
The mat itself is exactly what I wanted in that the images are generic enough to work in a variety of scales. The figure on the mat is a 28mm Ostarian.
All in all I am very happy with what I have.
Yey for dismounted cavalry…. this is one set of figures I really wanted. Luckily I got them for Christmas from one of the kids.
They have come from the Lady Wintermore’s Fangs set. It is the job of these veteran troopers of the guard cavalry to extricate their trapped officers from the vampire’s trap.
I basically have the full set apart from one figure…the Count Wintermore. I had already painted up lady Wintermore in the Purple as well as the zombie infantry
My daughter and I strengthened the tree and put it on a base. We decided we needed some rocks so I hunted out my Woodland Scenics rock moulds and we shoved the spare home made clay into them to test it out. The spare clay filled up both moulds so we have a lot of them.
It worked sort of. Biggest problem was the drying time. The stuff in the air formed a crust pretty quickly, but this stopped the rest from drying out. I dusted the moulds with corn flour (corn starch) to act as a mould release and it worked in a fashion.
My daughter is happy enough with the results, so in that respect it is a win. I don’t think it will be particularly useful for wargaming terrain, but we will see how it paints up.
I have eventually got around to making a prototype wet palette, well prototype for me. As can be seen from a number of my photographs I have used a white tile or six, before that I used an old cd and before that probably paint straight out of the pot.
I am impressed, I painted the black over an hour and a half ago and the green about an hour ago. They are still useable. There are loads of YouTube vids all about making your own… so Ibit the bullet and did. A clean fish cake container, some paper towel and some grease proof paper and voila… a wet pallet.
You can see from the pic above where I have mixed colours, the brown was last night for the jäger. It was pretty much drying as fast as I was getting it on the figures.
I may make a shallower/wider to give me a bit more space. Having a quick look at prices, the bought ones range from just under £3 to £40 with extra for the paper. Mine cost pence…

Well it is Christmas Day for another 10 minutes.
To be honest it has been a good one, if a bit wierd without the in laws here for lunch. My kids have had a super day. I was very fortunate to receive a whole host of Flintloque for my presents.
I received a re-animator for my undead, a field hospital for the Ferach, some Ostarian Jäger from my good lady, then some dismounted Ferach Guard cavalry, Elven ladies, dwarf civilians and Towern Marske for my Trollkin.
I also received a book on Bree (for my One Ring roleplaying campaign) from my friends. I would put a photo up, but I cannot be bothered to go and get it.

I have relaxed my paint what I got first as these were presents. So I randomly chose a packet from the box and the Jägerhund came out first.
they are nice sculpts, with the minimum amount of flash… basically I could only find any on the cartridge box, there might b3 some more but it is lost in the clothing.
I was originally going to paint them green, but decided instead to go for the grey with green trimmed uniforms. Although I like painting them how I want, I do actually like the actual colours of their historical counterparts.
Hopefully I will get these finished tomorrow.
Well Christmas Day is over here for another day, I hope everyone has had a relaxed one. Here is to 2018.

I shall carry on painting my undead artillery and plastic militia sometime soon.
I received a message on Facebook asking if I sold my flags. I don’t, but I did him a couple of sets as I enjoy doing them.
Zoltan’s 666th regiment and a Werewolf regiment both regimental and colonel’s colours.
I was a bit miffed that my metallic Sharpies don’t have a super fine point. It might be something I invest in after the madness of Christmas.
The kids and I made our own air drying clay the other day.
We had some good fun building our storage tree.
The tree is ready to paint. It might get based as well.
HELP ME!
I am really getting into doing these, made more flags and painted nothing over the last couple of days, I think it is because they are so easy to do.
They look better curled and flapping than on the piece of paper. Obviously all of my chaps are holding flags in at the very least a strong breeze.
On the next one I might try to get a drooping flag. I am not sure whether it is possible due to the nature of the paper.
