Cold crisp mornings are great for photographs but absolutely dire for driving when it has rained onto freezing ground.
The poor snowman has already lost his nose and stands steadfastly awaiting his fate.
A big game today.

the armour arrives.

The perils of mixing by eye!
I needed to make some basing compound. A simple mix of sawdust, acrylic paint, PVA glue and a touch of water.
To begin with it was too dry, so I added some water, it was then too wet, so I added some more sawdust – too dry, more water…Eventually I got the consistency to something close to what I wanted.
I have located everything I could find to cover and I have used less than a quarter of the total made.

I decided not to add it to the ghouls as I wanted to get some more paint on them tonight.
Another small step forwards.

I would have got more done but I decided to get a base coat on the ghouls, four base coats later I just about managed to get them green.

I think another couple of coats and they will be roughly the right colour. The joys of a Black undercoat. This is exactly the same green as the gunners.
The uniform is dark green with red turn backs, collars and cuffs. The colpack is black as are the belts and boots. As elites they have gold detailing.
A few teeny steps forwards.
Managed to get a little bit more done this lunchtime, all the black covered again, red cords base coloured, they need washing to darken them then highlighted back up again.
I tidied up a some of the pant splodges where they shouldn’t have been. They are almost there.
Then onto two units of ghouls one for me and one for my friend for Christmas.
Busy, Busy, Busy
Well you know it is windy
when you cant get your door open to climb out.
Thankfully we got away with stuff thrown around the garden, roofing felt off the aviary and stable roof and a hole where the aviary wall used to be (thankfully we were using to house our hen and chick so nothing escaped.
Some others weren’t so lucky.

This evening we are due strong winds and snow. The joys of living in a windy place 🙂
I had left the gunners at work, because frankly, in hurricane force winds I envisaged the power going off. Strangely it didn’t. So I messed around with the plastic horde. I made a simple standard from the bits box and a rather tattered flag with some green stuff.

The standard was a simple one, based on a couple from the Narodnoe Opolcheniye or peasant militia.

These seemed to have religious figures on them. Obviously an undead militia wouldn’t have this, so I added a cloak to the crosspiece to act as the banner. I am still trying to work out what to paint on it.
The flag is so tattered that I will probably just go for a solid colour, I am thinking red.
Managed a little bit of painting time this lunchtime, needed to go and get something for my good lady wife who stood on an upturned nail, as well as getting some more horse food in.
I did manage to add a wash to the skin, mainly in the recesses, as well as adding a pinkish hue to the wounds, unfortunately it dried a whole lot lighter than it looked on the palette. I will tone it down a bit later on this evening.
I also added another darker wash onto the blanket rolls, I forgot the cloak and the head covering.
They are coming along, which is what it is all about.
Well I managed a bit more this evening.
The flesh is pretty much done, however I might put another light wash on to add some more shadows, they are there but just a bit to subtle to see. Wounds need to be repainted; I am not sure what colour to do these possibly a pale pink just to add a contrast to the pallid skin tone.
Still a bit to do but I reckon in a couple of hours they will be finished.
I also had a mess around with some bits from the plastic zombies and some grab adhesive, something is trying to emerge.
Well in between yesterday lunchtime and today’s I managed to get a little bit done. I think they will come alive when their faces get done (can the undead come alive?).
Still a whole load to do. It didn’t help that I was ill for a few days and then DIYing for some more. I really missed the painting. It is funny how I went for ages not managing to get started on anything and then it comes back in a rush.
To be honest I think YouTube helped. Not painting figures, but actually making terrain. it kind of kindled an artistic interest in me again. so much so that when the new shed is completed I am going to have an 8 x 4 bit just for me 🙂 with enough room for a light box, proper lighting, my small bench saw and all sorts of shelves and other such exciting things.
I just have to get back in there and carry on with the DIYing and get a new floor put down.
