Undead Engineers…little progress

The title says it all …. so little done this evening.

Hopefully I will get some more done tomorrow night… maybe the run up to Christmas isn’t the best time to try and get stuff painted. I was hoping to get twenty miniatures painted by Christmas Day (15 have already been done)… mwa ha ha!

Somehow I don’t think that I am going to make my self imposed deadline, therefore I am going to aim for the end of the month.

On the upside, these chappies don’t have many belts or straps to worry about, this should hopefully speed things up a bit 🤔

Forgotten Forces Friday

Flaming Harriets… how can it be Friday again?

Anyway these forgotten forces were not found in the shed or the house for that matter. I had loaned them to a colleague who taught science in the primary schools and shared my office. He retires today and returned them. To be honest I had totally forgotten all about them!

So here we go…..

These will join the rest of my Magister dinosaurs.

Parasaurolophus (my favourite dinosaur)

T Rex

Stegosaurus

Triceratops (second favourite)

Gigantoraptor

Quetzalcoatlus

Velociraptors to the left

Troodon to the right.

These need a proper undercoat and then painted up!

This is some of the rest. The human hunters are for a little game we play… hunt the specific dinosaur, tag it and wait for retrieval!

And finally a bonus set of ‘warriors’

Snowball Wars by Okum Arts. These come out every winter for a grudge match…it normally starts out 2 on 2 but usually ends up three against me!

Undead Engineers

I was having a mooch amongst my gravestone sets and found the Undead engineers.

I managed to get them glued to their bases and then get a Bay brown undercoat. I will hopefully get some paint onto them tomorrow evening.

The following photo shows the fun and games that can be had leaving the island!

Taken by Sandy Macmillan’s Facebook page.

A Night Off

I painted sod all tonight… which remind me of a joke.

Lord Fartsagale dies without heirs, his last will and testament is read out and various parts of his estate are left to his loyal staff.

To Smithers, his loyal man servant of many years, a man who had seen his lordship through various ups and downs, he left Fartdale hall an old building with 15 bedrooms.

To his cook Mrs Higgins, a wonderful woman who kept his lordship well fed and watered, he left Widdle Hall a gran£ building with a great kitchen and 10 bedrooms.

To Grinton, his groom, a great man with horses who no doubt made his lordship a great sum of money through spotting great racehorses and training the same, he left Prior Hall, a spot with the gallop, the stables and 8 bedrooms

To Jones, his chauffeur, the man who dinged the Bentley, trashed the Rolls and lost the keys to the garage. He left Sod All…. one wonders how many bedrooms that had!

Sorry I will get my coat!

As I bought the 3D printer, today I made some STL file purchases from Fat Dragon. Tom was great and answered my various questions about what would be suitable for a newbie. He also advised me to wait until today as there would be a sale on. I took his advice and got some extras too. To be honest most of the stuff I got was free, my total spend came to $11.99. This was the purchased set.

I got this set as I thought it had a fair few useful bits and bobs to try out. The other things were a test cube to help with setting up the printer, the free dungeon sampler, and a crater. There was something else but for the life of me I cannot remember what it was???

Now to be honest, I have used Fat Dragon for years, but only their card stuff. They set up a YouTube channel to support their products but also support 3D printing too. The printer I had been considering was recommended by them too, so all in I am a happy chap…apart from one thing. I am actually quite nervous about the whole thing. I think it is partly a cost thing, although cheap by 3D printer standards it still came in at just shy of £200, Christmas money and the sale of toys will cover the cost, but at the back of my mind is the worry that I won’t get on with it! Only time will tell I suppose. No doubt after building lots of Lego on Christmas Day I might actually get around to building my present 🤣

On a totally different note I was at a meeting today and in the room was a map if Shetland from 1744.

Now there are a few interesting things about this map. Firstly they don’t care about inland stuff, it is a map for seafarers…the various islands are all named, even the smaller ones. The proportions are way out, but fair play to them they did it by eye and line if sight etc. One of the other interesting things is the note on Fair Isle…Famous for the best hawks to be had anywhere. Interestingly enough, there are no hawks on Fair Isle any more! I love the fact that we were part of Orkneyshire!

Meriadoc Brandybuck

I managed to get Merry from bare metal to finished in just over an hour.

Another figure found in a box. He is being added to the December challenge. So far this month I have managed fourteen full figures and a zombie upper torso bursting out of the ground. Ten days to go, so I reckon I can get a few more in before the end of the month.

Nursey Ready for Action

I managed to work on Nursey this evening and got her finished in one sitting.

It helped that there weren’t too many complicated or fiddly bits. She was super easy to paint. Looking closely at some of the photos I could probably tidy up the Red Cross a bit more, but to be honest I am worried I will balls it up and sneeze or something and have red paint where it shouldn’t be.

Here she is reunited with the other two figures from the set.

I think this is one of my favourite sets in terms of the make up of the set and also the back story.

Rogipoos reminds me of one of my Role Playing Characters. Sir Percival Fanhard second earl of Lancaster and cousin to the King.

Percy and his friend Mr Lyle, the sugar magnate, had many escapades from the Spanish Main to Gibraltar. Another notable character was the great El Torro and his pet monkey Captain Pinch. Percy is the chap that bought the hag of Tortuga an occasional table as she didn’t have one when he tried to leave his card. The pair of them started a war between Spain and Britain over a complete and utter misunderstanding.

I still have the original character sheet, he got to 90 XP’s. The Pirates RPG was written by my good friend Wiggy Wade Williams, a very talented chap indeed.

Percy survived and had decedents. Some who have appeared in various games.

I will end with the Wisdom of El Torro

Beautiful women who are poor are to be admired from a distance, Beautiful women who are rich are to be courted. This is my Monkey, you may ignore him ……

Found in the personal papers of Percival Fanhard… dated 17 something or other…(cant read his writing) spent too long in Main… what with his constitution…. not a good combination!

Rogipoos…All Finished

I managed to get him finished…

Well when I say finished I just realised all of the bits that had been missed off or the paint has strayed! To be fair I hadn’t noticed until I took the photo above and then cropped and zoomed in. I do feel however that it looks like there is cocoa in his mug!

I decided that he needed to be reunited with Jose so here they are.

Tomorrow I will make a start on Nursey. Then onto some Elf civilians.

oh and while I remember….

70mph winds: 1 caravan: 0

It doesn’t look much but the side is just about holding in place and the roof is all but detached on the near side.

Luckily I still had the digger and held the roof in place until my good lady came back with the car containing the straps.

The heroic digger!

Rogipoos…Work in Progress

Four hours on a digger has jiggled my insides, plus quite a while in 60mph winds with a shovel didn’t help either but I bravely managed to get a bit more paint on Rogipoos.

Rogipoos’ skin is a lot darker than other orcs due to his many adventures in sunnier climates. I have enjoyed painting him. I did consider painting the braid a different colour but decided on the white. I managed a bit of shading with a heavily watered down blue wash, not that you can tell.

Hopefully I will get him finished tomorrow apart from aches from another load of hours on the digger and with a shovel.

The wind speed is now pushing 70mph… luckily the power has stayed on.

Forgotten Forces Friday

Another delve into the cardboard boxes in the shed located these fine fellows…

This is about as far as I got with them 😟

I also have some cavalry and chariots.

There are another two full boxes of infantry, some cavalry and more chariots as well as various metal minis too!

I honestly don’t know if I will ever finish them. I can’t actually remember when I got them the cavalry and chariots are Wargames Factory, before they disappeared. The price on the label is £17.00 for the cavalry set, which isn’t bad for 12 mounted figures.

I decided that plaid was a really good idea, so went to town. Thankfully not on everyone!

Didn’t manage anything on Rogipoos tonight. Tomorrow I am playing with a digger so not sure what state I will be in in the evening 🤔

Rogipoos….Twelvetieth Lord Coldgood

Made a start on Uncle Rogipoos.

Still a long way to go, but I made a start this evening. My eldest daughter has become a teenager, so Birthday Shenanigans took place.

Another bit of excitement, my 3D printer arrived, unfortunately I can’t open it until Christmas….booooo!

And finally, this was shared on my Facebook feed…

It reminded me of a pile of young ladies I met in Poland, they turned up at a couple of events wearing lady versions of military uniforms, their uniforms were definitely cut to allow a bit more expansion in certain areas.

Hopefully I will get on with Rogipoos again tomorrow night.
