Halflings and UV Resin fun

I have been promising the kids for a while now that we could get some resin done. So they promised to help me to get the shed cleared out to allow us to set unit up as a craft workshop. This isn’t too bad as it is about 2/3 the size of the house (I have a little house).

So we messed around and set up the various UV lights, one of the bottles of resin had leaked a bit so as I went outside to wash it I suddenly remembered it cured in sunlight and voila easy clean up!

So here are some bits curing under the lights.

And here is a finished pendant as done by my eldest, they did other things as well, but they went as gifts before I got them photographed.

It still needs a trim

We had good fun messing around with the colours. We learned a few things on the way. Safety protocols were in place to keep us safe, just in case you were wondering.

Tonight I didn’t get a huge amount done as friends came over for a Takeout Chinese meal. They were here quite late, so I didn’t get started until gone nine. But at least the halflings are finished.

I came across an unexpected problem with 6mm halfling basing.

I spent ages looking for one of the bases and couldn’t find it anywhere. I l found it when I went to add some flock to the next base…

It’s a case of ‘where are the Halflings?’

Tomorrow, I will finish of the various bits and bobs on the box which is the grand total of two ogres, four wolf chariots, and a few wagons. I will get the skeleton host sprayed too.

Seaside Shenanigans, Dive Bombing and Halflings

As you might have guessed there is never really a dull moment in my household. Today we met up with my sister and family and went rock pooling and plodging in the sea…sadly no orca in sight, which probably pleased the three seals that came to say hello.

As you can imagine, with such a nice day the beach was heaving…

You can just about see my sis in the distance!

We kept getting dive bombed by a pair of arctic tern. Luckily they didn’t draw blood but it made life interesting for a while… we suddenly found the reason why!

Spot the chick!

My niece was actually stood with one foot either side of it… needles to say we took a quick photo and moved away.

We tried a bit of rock pooling, as I said. I was extremely successful…

I also managed To catch some young Pollack (I think). So we returned home and whilst we watched Fantastic Beasts I managed to get my halflings finished and onto their bases.

Tomorrow I will get them flocked up and ready to join the rest.

Oni and the Sons of Set

Or a happy little accident as Bob Ross would say. Today my good lady moved my figures and one of the Oni slipped off so she picked it up and put it back on the box file that I use for my paint, it was then that something struck me… I know have giants to go with my Fantasy Japanese forces!

As you can see from the photo, I spent this evening getting the bases painted and then getting them flocked. Once this lot is dry I will get some tufts and pebbles on the bases to match in with the lizards.

I also spent this evening looking for my super magnifier headband thingy. I was having problems with the next army to paint as I couldn’t actually tell what they were. I have spent the last few weeks calling them elves, well I suppose technically they could be long dead elves as they all seem to be skeletons. I am really not sure how I am going to paint these when you cannot actually tell what they are! I will have to try and do my best, but I really do feel that there is some swearing ahead.

Whilst looking for my magnifier, I came across this lot…

The mammoth were used in mammoth racing game, the ogres and giants were got to go with the ork and goblin army, they evidently got separated a good while ago.

Sons of Set Finished

All finished apart from the bases and no doubt all of the bits I will have missed and notice in the photos.

The full army

I will get them based up the same as the Lizardmen and then make a start on either the elves or the samurai. The samurai will be painted up like my 15mm ones. Instead of three colours I will probably just go for one.

Here are a couple of close up shots…

As I said in yesterday’s post I really like the colours here. On my way out to work this morning I saw them in the sun and they actually looked even better. I will try and get them photographed outside tomorrow.

Sons of Set…Nearly there!

Tonight I worked some more on the 6mm Forces. To be honest I was Nearly gnawing my own arm off, but at least I cracked on and got within spitting distance of finishing.

I am pleased that they have pretty much come out how I wanted them to look.

I decided that each Nobori cluster would have different Symbols on them, for no other reason than I wanted them to look different.

To be honest these aren’t the best painted 6mm I have ever done, but there again the details on these was a bit tricky at times. In no way is this a complaint against the sculptor, the best I have ever managed were pumpkins. Obviously I liked them as I bought lots of armies from Ian at Irregular Miniatures. I just suddenly remembered, that when I moved to shetland that my 6mm Napoleonic’s went in the bin, as No-one wanted them and I needed to reduce the amount I was bringing up here.

Sons of Set (and the Ronin)

Okay, if truth be told it should be the Ronin hair, as that is all I did on them. I spent a lot more time on the 6mm stuff.

The sashimi are all painted black as are the Nobori , bows are done, just a mon to do on the black, weapons and faces on the infantry. Hopefully will be finished soon.

I was relieved yesterday as I managed to get more Spray paint… five cans of it (including a one with filler in). I thought the latter might be useful to fill in the lumps and bumps on the prints…

I gave some roads and my map tiles a few coats and it wasn’t that impressive…

Now to be honest, this could be a case of user error as Although I shook it a fair bit, I didn’t do my usual warm it up too. I will give it another blast tomorrow and see if it makes any difference.

Oni and the Ronin

Another band name, for when the first one falls out over artistic differences 😂

Tonight was pretty much spent painting hats on 6mm miniatures, then repainting white for faces, then repainting hats where the white went onto them then… well I think you get the picture!

So to save my sanity and eyesight I nipped our to the shed and grabbed the Ronin. I gave them some quick paint jobs as well as did a smidge more on the Oni.

Still a fair old way to go on them, but at least I have made a start. I really do like these miniatures. Each is different, so they are ideal for skirmish gaming. My box of new stuff arrived today, but I have been very good and handed it over to my wife for safe keeping until my Birthday. Just over two weeks to wait, so not too bad.

Sons of Set and the Oni

Well if I ever form a band then I think I have just found the name…

Tonight I did some more work on the 6mm miniatures. You can’t really see where I have been, but they all have had the purple wash, most have had white added back in for faces, as well as white being put onto the legs etc.

To save my sanity, I decided that I would take a break so made a start on the Battle Valour Oni.

These are nearly finished, really just the weapons and items on the belts to do. Hopefully these will get finished tomorrow.

Sons of Set… Making a Start

So tonight I made a start on the next 6mm army. Another Fantasy one again. This time a fantasy samurai army with giant serpents and lizard cavalry. I hummed and hawed about the colours to go for, but eventually decided on purple, black and gold. I am not sure why, but it seemed a good idea at the time.

The problem I found is that the purple contrast paint is a bit naff, so to give it some oomph I used the army painter purple wash to darken it a bit. You can see the difference between the ones on the left and the washed ones on the right.

Yesterday I had a mooch about to see what I could find for the 6mm Forces… quite a lot evidently!

So we have a huge irk and goblin force (left) dwarves and halflings right, with some knights behind the dwarves and then some dark elves I think. What cannot be seen are the medievals to the left of the orks. I also found some WW1 Turks… somewhere I have some Allied Forces including Arab fighters. I was going to evidently do the Middle East!

Whilst mooching I also found some more Samurai bases. I gave them a spray with the remnants of my white, only to find I had missed one out!

Luckily there was just enough left in the can to give it a spray too.

For my birthday I have ordered myself some Baccus samurai. I went for the army pack. I am also considering getting some Irregular 6mm Japanese monks with naginata, they would go nicely with the samurai army I already have.

The pond and paddy fields have remained flat, so it must have been the heat on the windowsill that caused the warping…. lesson learned there I think.

Ogres… Nearly Finished

So tonight I mooched around trying to find something to paint and came across these two already primed…

So a quick paint job and we got to here…

I probably spent twenty minutes on each. Once everything is dry I will sort out the strapping on the fur bracers and greaves. There are the usual bits that were missed first time round. I have come to the conclusion that it is caused by the wet paint reflecting light, therefore any actual white bits fool me into thinking ‘wet paint’ making them invisible until everything has dried. As I spent a whole while sneezing as these were drying then I decided to call it a night.

These were a ‘prize’ for taking part in the last HOTT competition. Technically one belongs to my daughter as she got one of them for attending too. They are on 40×40 bases as they are behemoth from HOTT.

Whilst mooching for miniatures to paint I cam across a whole host of part finished projects. So far, in the house, I have some 15mm FIW militia and woodland Indians, a force of based 10mm Mongols, a pile more 10mm Sudan war British and Egyptians, a tribe of 10mm Sioux. In the big shed I have all the Starship Troopers stuff as well as various printed miniatures and terrain (let’s not talk about the Aliens V Predator minis nor the Journeys in Middle Earth either).

All in all too much stuff. I didn’t make it out to my shed as that would add more to the lead and plastic mountain.

Tomorrow I shall finish the two ogres and then take stock and come up with a plan. I am not sure why as I probably won’t keep to it anyway.
