So tonight I managed to get the archers finished. My original plan was to have them all different colours but in the end the bows, quiver and swords were all the same. Each has a red scabbard and blue quiver. I worked on the principle that the local lord would supply the weapons.
I finished the ninja too…
So I now have the horde of peasants and the archers finished.
I have nine monks on foot and three on horseback and another eighteen Ashigaru with yari. Add in a few bases of Samurai as Ronin and then I have a nice rebellious force.
The other thing I managed to do tonight was to get the hero nearly done…
Speaking of archers…
Shortly after this photo I nearly snapped my ankle. It is now strapped up and still bloody hurts!
Another exciting bit of news… I passed 4000 visitors today. So thank you to everyone who has visited. Totally blown away by that.
I managed to get some paint onto the peasant archers. Okay they are Ashigaru, but they look a bit more rag tag than ‘uniformed’ warriors as seen in the films…
Peasants and the monks…
These still need the swords, quivers, hair and sashes done. But they should be done by tomorrow night.
The next problem I have is to decide on how am I going to paint the Samurai. Do I go for the random bright colours or do I go for the film version and have various groups in the same coloured armour. Any ideas greatly appreciated.
Didn’t get as much done as I would have liked tonight. I kind of got side tracked into doing nothing much really, but anyway Progress is progress…
I also printed off some carts, one is full of rice bales…
Hopefully tomorrow I will get more done, on the upside the rest of my Samurai order arrived…on the downside the rest of my Samurai order arrived. There are quite a few! Probably 50 Samurai with various weapons, about 30 Ashigaru and a dozen monks, mounted and on foot. Oh and a general and entourage.
Well I used the last of my white spray paint to get these undercoated…
The coloured ones are my test pieces that came with my Aztecs ages ago. I did however manage some painting this evening. I decided to start on the easy ones and went for the peasants.
Getting there…
Still a fair old way to go, but at least I managed to make a start.
I also found someone who does STL’s for Japanese terrain, so I spent a bit of cash and got a few sets.. mainly rural farm stuff. Hopefully I can get some of it test printed tomorrow .
We have the big pool I started last night with a smaller version from today. I decided to print off some more deadly plants as well as a couple of low stairs. The stairs are the same print, just put in different orientation. My plan for these is to make some kind of a plaza with the throne on it. The stairs will allow entrance to it.
I also managed to repaint the back banner on the hero.
A bit brighter than yesterday. I also added a bit more to the skink oracle, he is drying as I managed to snap his wand off!
Tomorrow I will build a base for this in 3D builder. I might see if I have any STL’s for plants etc that I can add into the designs.
Off to play on Hunter: Call of the Wild… my go to chill out game
Tonight I managed to get my lizardman hero finished. well apart from his shield that is. I remembered that Ann of Ann’s Immaterium had set up the March might or magic challenge … March Might or Magic . As I said I was going to add in my repurposed Allosaurus, I thought I had better get him done.
Whoops his saddle slipped backwards
To be honest, I am going to redo the banners on the chair as they look a bit dull. Not exactly something that befits a hero. Sadly he never did get his base. Hopefully I will print him one in the next couple of days.
Talking of printing… I have been busy on that front too. Sadly I forgot to write down who designed what… so I can’t give credit, where credit is due.
These came of the build plate perfectly. We have a carnivorous plant selection. A snake and stone ball combo. An Aztec inspired medallion and then a brazier for burning all those hearts and incense. I am busy printing a water feature thing … think large stone bath!
Tomorrow I will see what else I can find to do. I will try and print the base for the Beasty as well as for the magic toad.
Yep two nights in a row! Flippin’ heck At this rate I will have them finished soonish! Well probably later than sooner, but at least I am getting going.
Tonight I decided to just do the metallics as they needed a few coats to get them to look solid.
I will crack on with these tomorrow evening (I hope). I must remember to find the shield for the old blood or whichever one he is.
As a total aside, the printer is merrily chugging away out there, I am just going out to bum up the temperature a few degrees for the overnight section of the print. I haven’t got a clue what bit it is printing as it is angled and is printing the supports first.
Yes, I managed some actual painting tonight, okay not a huge amount, but at least I managed something.
The thing in the middle is a mummified Slann, problem is he us too small I think. You can’t really see him because he is still covered in supports. I went into the shed to check on the progress and it ended there and then. Problem was I forgot he was in three bits and as the nozzle suddenly left the print I though it had failed after 9 hours 40 minutes. Pillock that I am!
He does look exceptionally small compared to the other two. I printed him at 150% of the original file, but he still seems teeny, especially compared to the other two beside him. I will finish him off tomorrow and Monday (two lots of 4 hour prints) and then see what I think.
Thanks for the supportive messages yesterday. I really did appreciate them.
Didn’t get in until 7.30 tonight so by time dinner occurred I was too knackered to do much, but at least I got a bit more done.
It is really just the metalwork and tidying up a bit to go, then onto the Riders of Rohan.
A bit of excitement occurred today, apart from my wife and the two youngest being unwell with cold/flu symptoms.
The Authority has decided to close all schools for the whole of next week (apart from three on the outer islands). They emailed at 13.05 stating that staff needed to be told by 13.15 and parents by 13.30. I was already back teaching by then and just happened to check my emails. Otherwise we would have found out after the kids went home. They phoned to say had I received the email two minutes before 13.30.
This closure is not for health reasons, but because we have very little supply cover for the schools and we have lost a lot of staff and kids who are self isolating (or in the case of a lot of the kids, been removed from school by anxious parents).
As of yesterday Greater Glasgow and Clyde had fourteen cases of the virus and our little island of 22,000 had six. We had the dubious honour of being third. As of this morning we almost doubled that figure to eleven.
Now you may think this closure is a bonus, sadly not. All staff are expected to attend their place of work. No extra painting time for me.
Hopefully I will get the orks and Rohirrim finished this weekend.
Until tomorrow…seeya. I will end with a nice picture overlooking South Whiteness
I reckon it is going to be frosty tomorrow morning!
