HOTT Conquistadors IV

The horde elements are painted, just the bases to do…

They are ‘nice and bright’. I do wish however that I had only put four miniatures on each base rather than the five.

I suppose they are meant to be a horde, so perhaps it will grow on me. Compared to the three minis per base of the Conquistadors then it doesn’t seem too bad 🤔.

I also managed a bit on my Lurker MKII

And finally…. nightmare scenario…

My Foundry Canvas ‘C’ is almost used up!

Eeek! It’s only about six years old….probably more than that. How dare it almost run out. Every single thing painted white in that time has been painted in this.

I am actually going to have to go and buy another white!

HOTT Conquistadors III

I did some work on the horde elements last night.

Still a fair way to go on these but I am getting there.

There will be one base of commoners and two of elite types. I know it should be the other way around, but as these were samples I can’t really argue. They are going to be part of the Horde if the Things force so I am not too bothered.

Whilst perusing the Tin Soldier Website I accidentally ordered a DBA Aztec army… so much for not buying anything new!

Do I need a DBA Aztec army…. not really when I have this lot to paint up!

Black Hat Aztec army, DBM sized!

To be honest though, I am not sure about these. I got them on a whim to play a fantasyesque Conquistador campaign, that was two years ago. If I hadn’t decided on a Different HOTT army for this year’s tournament then they probably wouldn’t have seen the light of day for another two years.

Lastly I have a flyers element available if needed 😉

I found a couple of these chaps. They are actually Pendraken 10mm dragons with the tails cut off. They will do as Pterosaurs.

I have got some Magister Millitum one’s too but could only find one of the three. I would loved to have done Jungle birds, but can’t think of anyone who does a host of them.

I will crack on with these tonight. I am posting now as I have stable internet at the minute. Something that is a rare commodity at the minute.

HOTT Conquistadors II

Well as today was crap outside I did some filing and glueing this afternoon.

This morning we took the kids to see Smallfoot which they loved and as an adult I found as an enjoyable enough way to spend a couple of hours.

Anyway, what have I been up to…

The general and unit of knights (minus their lance).

Shooters, blades and beasts…

Some additions, in case I feel the urge to rethink my list. A couple of bases of spears and a small artillery piece. Which has now been rebase as I realised from the photo that it was on a 30 x 30 base instead of 40 x 40!

I found another idea for a lurker…

And luckily some of my Horde are already painted.

Okay I know these lot shouldn’t be mixed up like this, but they are the same size as the Conquistadors and I quite like them. It just so happens that I have enough for three bases worth.

HOTT – Conquistadors

Started sorting out the list for my army.

The minis above are pretty much all Tin Soldier 15mm Conquistadors with an unknown general on the horse and the Mastiffs which are Xyston.

The force so far is thus:

General @ 4pts

Blades x2 @ 4pts

Shooters x2 @ 4pts

Knights @ 2pts

Beasts @ 2pts

Not shown above

Behemoth @ 4pts

Lurker @ 1pt

Hordes x3 @ 3pts

24 points in total

The Behemoth and Lurker were ordered from Alternative Armies today

Just got to paint them all now!

Back to the Sudan

On a course and I had to do homework… I mean Actual homework in a homework book.

Now I don’t want to be rude, but to be honest I checked twice in case I had been given a child’s spelling book in error.

We did a full day of training I then popped back to the office and ended up popping in for an hour and a half. This meant I had to go shopping later than expected, with the knock on effect that I haven’t had time to get anything painted tonight!

So tonight we have some of the terrain I use in my Sudan games.

These are 6mm buildings that work well to represent villages etc. The trees are imported palms from China. Cheap as chips, this is a small selection. The headless statue is a Hirst Arts one from some 28mm Egyptian stuff ain’t had spare.

The following hill was originally designed for my 6mm road wars stuff but to be honest it works for 10mm too.

Please ignore the pale splodge at the top of the slope. Some idiot dropped cream coloured paint on it.

Finally some figures. These are all 15mm. These were designed to act as characters during a battle. I should mention here that. I rather enjoy Science Versus Pluck. A set of rules in which everyone plays on the Anglo Egyptian side against an umpire.

In those rules if things get somewhat sticky for the brave souls it can lead to hand to hand combat. The larger figures are then placed on the side and the mini combat takes place. These are all Peter Pig miniatures. I decided on the 15mm as 28mm just sort of looked wrong.

Here we have a reporter in the foreground with various officers and sergeants further back. The reporter is there as one player didn’t want a combative role and was happy to send reports back from the column.

I also bought some cavalry as players can be cavalry or mounted infantry officers.

Finally the above need someone to spoil their day.

A selection of the chaps that poor Lieutenant Trapper is evidently about to meet, for what is probably an exceedingly short time.

Colours finished…

After Procrastinating for a good while, I eventually managed to paint the flags…

Huzzah!

And then after third attempt on the white flag it suddenly dawned on me it was wrong again….in the words of Corporal Nobby Nobbs of the Ankh Morpork City Watch….

“Sodding Arseholes!”

The squiggles should be inside the cross!

You know what… I think I may leave it the way it is.

Tomorrow I may start on the Woodland Indians.

The other thing coming up soon is the Shetland Games Day. This takes place on 6th October. Now the question is what should I run… so far I have done:

10mm Mammoth hunting.

The humans are Magister Millitum Eskimo and cave men. The adult mammoth are Pendraken, babies are Irregular miniatures 6mm Tusk mammoth and the rest of the fauna are Magister.

10mm Dinosaur hunting

The human hunters are Pendraken (WW2 Russian Snipers) the dinosaurs are Magister Millitum. Each person took a two man team and had to shoot the male triceratops to win. The other dinosaurs were there to either get in the way or to eat the players.

28mm Gladiator Games

The Figures were a mix of EM4 pre painted as well as some Westwind ones. The rules were EM4 too. The arena was scratch built for the show.

I may have to dust off my Sudan stuff and get the players to brave the hot desert wastes as they struggle to save Charlton Heston in Khartoum.

The other option is xenomorph hunting with the colonial marines… I shall have to see….

Ensigns and Sergeants… Nearly There

Almost there with these.

Just really the colours to go. I am still to decide on a regiment (or two).

If I have one complaint about these, it is that the sergeant’s muskets look more like a one from the turn of the 1890’s. To be honest though, the way they are standing means you can hardly see the musket unless you get down to table level.

Tomorrow I decide on the flags. As a total aside. I painted these with the GW starter brush that came with the Conquest magazine. After initially moaning about the quality I managed to get everything on these done with it.

This is what it looked like after fifteen minutes of painting yesterday.

Ensigns and Sergeants

Managed a smidge of painting tonight.

Got some blue and white onto these.

I decided not to go near them last night as I was in a foul mood. I decided that even the calming process of painting would not have worked. Not even sure why I was in such a bad mood.

I still have to decide on the colours, more than likely one of the quartered ones (as these would be easiest) for the regimental one and the Kings colour.

Still a fair way to go, but happy so far.

It was rather a nice evening so I managed to get a nice photo over Scalloway castle.

Scalloway is the original capital of Shetland. The castle was built in 1601 and is a nice ruin to tromp around in.

French Artillery Sons Finis

As they say in New France.

Those English upstarts are in for a bit of a shock when these appear…. or maybe not as my opponent may read this!

These were finished a lot quicker than expected. Out of interest whenever I say finished I mean painted. I am going to sort the bases out when everything is painted. That way they will all look the same. Too many times I have finished a unit and then, when put next to the one before I realised that the flock was a different shade (being a total pillock I would base them based upon memory rather than heading out to the shed to check).

I also managed to get some more done on the HQ.

These are in the tunic rather than the soldiers coat. So mainly blue with white gaiters and a black hat. I am not looking forward to painting the colours. The problem is they are folded! I already have two colours, regimental and kings colour so these are pretty much going to be spare.

If I look at it another way…it shall be a mini challenge!

After this lot…the woodland tribes pack… lucky me…lots of War paint!

Oh and I succumbed…

I ended up getting three….I will never, ever have to buy gold paint again….

My little boy loves painting every so often so a nice cheap way to let him.

I must get some more heads and arms to make them a bit different.

French Artillery… Further Work

Today was a bit busy,

I was trying to get the entrance to the shed wind and water tight. Managed it even though the double glazed window became single glazed… don’t ask.

Anyway a bit if relaxed painting calmed me down a bit 😖

I have decided to put a glaze over the red to try and blend in the colours a bit. To be honest though the look much better at about a metre.

Still a long way to go, but still keeping the momentum up. Tomorrow I hope to get the crew finished. Not to mention some more done on the howitzers and a start made on the infantry ensigns and sergeants… which I keep forgetting about… not to mention my long haired militia man (a simple conversion from hat to hair). He was my original Hawkeye.

The shed… with the new an improved window…🤬🤬🤬
