Red Lizards

Tonight I managed to throw some paint onto these, well when I say paint on these, best described as orange on these and red on one.

The orange looked fine until I added the orange. I might redo it as yellow to brighten them up a bit. The one thing I am thinking of is to add black scales and spikes onto them to add a contrast. If the worst happens and I don’t like them then they/it can have a respray.

Tomorrow I hope to crack on with these and get them all red at the very least.

Rattle Can Lizards

I eventually managed to get these sprayed this evening. They are now sitting on the stove drying off a bit…

I am not quite sure what colour to do the mounts but I am thinking red. I know the box art shows them as green, but I reckon red with a yellow belly will be the way forward. If I do a different shade of red to the shields then that might help. I will have to have a good old think. Either that or do the shields a colour other than red! Green for example 🤔. Hopefully I can get something done tomorrow night, but as it is the parent council meeting I probably won’t get in until gone 21.00.

Fun Filming in the Cold

Yesterday the kids decided that they wanted to make a film. A fair bit of planning took place, with storyboards and the like being produced. When the kids were ready we headed off into the wind and rain to do our filming. When we got on site the wind chill was about -2. Luckily we weren’t out in it for too long.

The kids and my good lady did the editing this afternoon… so I now present our film.

Wild Shetland…

They have plenty more ideas up their sleeves so be prepared for more madness.

Very Little Done

So, as I said yesterday, I was off gallivanting today. My original plan was to get things sprayed this morning ready to paint tomorrow. Unfortunately my good lady had a migraine that affected her vision and stability meaning that I was on horse and taxi duty this morning. The upshot of this was that nothing got sprayed.

They are built, but not white. Hopefully I will get them done tomorrow.

I did manage to throw a bit of Contrast on these, so at least I managed to get something done today.

Decisions, Decisions

So tonight I am sitting looking at the different versions of the bases. I have to come up with some form of decision about what my bases are going to look like. The dog very kindly removed herself from her bed, which meant that I can have a proper look at them in a better light.

The options are shown above. The Geek Gaming ones are nice and will be useful for making terrain etc but I really don’t think they will work for the lizard bases. That basically leaves the Serious Play ones.

I had a closer look at the mixed ones and I think it is going to go down to either one of them.

I am edging towards the darker one of the two on the left of the picture.

The real question now is do I mix up a big batch by throwing all of the green into the darker colour or do I do smaller batches??? Luckily I have three bags of the green so I can certainly add a lot. As I said I do like it so could probably use it for other things.

I am going to build the rest of the cold ones tonight and get them sprayed tomorrow morning. That will probably be the limit of my hobby work as I am learning to play bowls tomorrow afternoon (I have some indoor bowls equipment in the school and thought I might as well set up a club) and straight after that I have to head up to the North of the island for a leaving party for a friend, (colleague and manager too over the years). She is deserting me to take up a headship south and I really will miss her.

I have three of the cold ones built, so I reckon I will manage another five this evening. Wish me luck as I am absolutely buggered this evening.

Testing, Testing

No painting tonight, but I did have a productive evening nonetheless.

My order came from Geek Gaming today so I had a mooch at it. I ordered the woodland range as I am wanting stuff for my lizards.

They do look good, but seemed a little dark. My daughter and I decided to test them out on 2p’s

We had a fair few to try out, some were from Geek gaming and others were ones I had had for ages.

We had forest paths, forest floor and rugged fields from Geek gaming and unfortunately the other ones didn’t have names on them but they were from Serious Play.

This above is an overview of them… The following top two rows are from right to left

Rugged fields, forest floor then forest paths. The bottom three were us mixing them up a bit.

The first two on the left below are the Serious play ones. We then did a bit more mixing by adding some light green into the mix you can see the effect above.

We decided that the serious play mix was the best and we would do a bit of a bigger test. We haven’t decided on which to go for, but the green certainly added a bit more colour to the mix.

Big Beasty Rider

Tonight I had training and then had to pick my daughter up from her drama so I really didn’t have time, or rather inclination, to paint anything. So instead I built things…

We have a couple of cold ones, which to be brutally honest I think look a bit naff compared to the older velociraptor looking ones. The skink is posed on the BB and I also decided to build the saddle for the hero. I decided to build it just to see if it would fit on the dinosaurs I have… and look at that. It actually fits perfectly.

Okay it isn’t as big and impressive as the GW one but it would mean I have another Big Beasty in my army. Obviously I would give it a respray. I reckon I have another theropod or two knocking around the place which may work too. If I got him on the same sized base as the blue one he might look a bit bigger (if that makes sense).

Tomorrow I hope to finish off the rest of the Cold Ones.

Today, on the way to work, I had a bit of a run in with some nature. I noticed something out of the corner of my eye and realised a red grouse was flying alongside the car. I slowed down and the bloody thing darted in front of the windscreen. As it was icy I couldn’t slam on the brakes so we had a few moments of his bum feathers touching my windscreen before he veered off and I slowed down enough.

Here he is… I wound the window down and he went ballistic, it was almost as if he was swearing at me…

Big Beasty Finished…Almost

So tonight I decided to try and get this finished. It was mainly the metalwork and collar decoration.

John suggested a darker colour for the collar so I went with the Tin Bitz. I thought it looked good, so a lot of the metalwork was done with this and Dwarf Bronze. Some gold was used on the dangling decorations.

I still need to do something with the teeth as they pretty much blend in with the yellow. Apart from that and the base I am calling this pretty much done (may do some highlighting). I just have to work out with what.

Next up will be the skink rider so that I can get it finished.

Big Beasty with Straps

I didn’t get much done tonight, but I did get the straps started…

I still have to decide what colour to do the collar. There will be some gold, but I think a solid gold one will look a bit naff.

I should be able to get some more done tomorrow night.

Multi-coloured Big Beasty II

I did a little bit more work on the big lizard today. I could have done a lot more but I spent a bit too long playing in the console.

This morning I spent far too long playing Hunter Call of the Wild. I have pretty much finished all of the mission arks bar two I think.

It is such a gorgeous looking world, I just keep going back to it. Like this morning (in game) I was in Yukon and watched the sun rise over the landscape. Almost forgot to shoot anything 😂.

This is just a random in game shot, I forgot to save the screenshot I took to somewhere useful.

Anyway after that, I got a bit of painting done…

So, this is where she stands now. I would have got even further forward except that my son reminded me that I had promised that I would reinstall one of my older games and he duly went and got it then ordered me to play something so that he. Old watch.

He chose Horizon Zero Dawn, so I went from hunting moose and bison this morning to hunting watchers and strides this evening.

Horizon Zero Dawn has to be up there in my top 10 games. Probably somewhere in the top 5 to be honest. It was so different from anything I had played before. I am starting from scratch again so it may mean a few nights of cursing as I don’t have the full skill tree like before 😂.

So tomorrow, I hope to crack on with the lizard and try and get it finished.

On a total aside, I have ordered some new ground cover from Geek gaming as I wanted something different from my usual Patchy plains as it doesn’t really shout fantasy rainforest.
