Big Beastie and a Bog Burst

Today I did my last stint at serving teas and luckily missed the excitement on the road coming home…

We have had some dry weather followed by torrential rain and voila, the peat is lifted off the bedrock or lower layers and careens down the slope… in this case straight onto the road. It got as far as the white line up the middle. This is just a little one!

By time I went past, they had cleared the road and opened both sides again.

I did a bit of painting when I got back…

Not exactly the best photo, but shock horror, the nights are drawing in and it now gets dark at night. I will take a better photo in the daylight tomorrow.

Lots of Varnish

Today I was out the house at 07.15 to help at the Kayak symposium…it wasn’t a taxing day, but I ended up coming home at 10.30, then back out again at 15.15 so a fractured day… infid however manage to get all of the undead apart from the big beastie varnished.

I was hoping to get the last miniature finished, but sadly it was not to be… I have got two more days of helping so it may not get finished until next week.

I intend to try the oil wash on the above sooner rather than later…

Working on the Big Beastie

Well today I decided decided that I couldn’t be bothered to fire up the airbrush so used the brush for the big beastie…

I went on a greenish look, to be honest it doesn’t look very undead looking, but then again it looks like a living thing and not dead looking, so I think it will work.

I got the rider done too…

Now the rider needs a wash over him, but you can see the colours I went for… purple robes as befits a posh dead dude on a scary flying thing.

Joe came over for a game this evening so we went for U-Boot and did the training mission… we actually survived after sinking four ships, checking the weather in a certain area and trying to shoot down a very persistent plane..it actually shot us… luckily no-one went down.

Here we are stalking our prey…

Not long to impact!

Hopefully I will get the big thing finished tomorrow.

Crossbows and a New Force

Well today I cracked on and got the crossbows finished, leaving seven mounted troops and the big beastie….

I am really, really not looking forward to getting the flock done on these… there are going to be 132 of them to do… I must be totally bonkers!

I did buy some oil paints and thinners and am going to give them a go to add a wash on everything…I will varnish everything first just in case.

The printer has been busy the last couple of days, but it isn’t for me… I am printing up a dwarven army for Joe. I have done three units totalling thirty figures. August brings more troops, so it will give him a chance to get these painted before the next lot drop.

Joe very kindly got me an AA gift voucher for my birthday so I had a think and decided I would go for another HOTT army… but what to choose. I decided on an elven force… but found he had one already and so, because I need my head examined, I went for an Imperial army… yeah more Landsknecht to paint up… why not go for 15m , I mean I already have loads in 6mm and 28mm… these are nice miniatures though…

The only thing I am going to change out is the Giant (we’ll it is a fantasy army)… I am going to shrink down one of my 28mm Ogres for the job… he has Landskecht style armour which will fit in nicely… if I want to change things up a bit I do actually have a Leonardo’s tank from my HOTT Conquistador force 😁.

I reckon one of these will make a funky Giant after getting shrunk a bit.

You can find an image of my tank Here. It worked well in the HOTT competition.

Painting and Some Crossbows

Today I didn’t get as much done as I would have liked, but I did manage a bit. I managed to get the crossbows onto bases as well as add some bits to a couple of the miniatures. The bits added were a couple of severed heads onto the spear and a bell onto an other one.

The only problem with these is that they are a bit on the small size, but to be honest they will be in their own separate unit so it may not be so obvious.

I also got some paint onto the ghouls and the skeletal bases…

I also started printing some dwarves for Joe. Two dozen printed and six in the machine now.

On a totally different note… I watched a couple of Underworld films on Netflix… well it was on in the background and it was a bit weird… the vampire needed a torch to go into dark spaces… she is a Vampire, night walker…by definition she shouldn’t need a torch… okay I know I need to suspend belief, but it did make me chortle a bit.

Dinocrocuta Printed

My second last prints came off the printer today. I now have twelve Dinocrocuta to get painted.

Because I am a total pillock I keep adding to the pile of stuff I need to paint… I think I have the following..

Twelve small ghouls

Six large ghouls

Nine zombie villagers

Seven riders for the horses in progress

One big beastie and it’s rider

I got everything undercoated apart from the beastie rider…so hopefully painting will commence tomorrow.

Here are a selection of the Dinocrocuta…

They have a nice brutish feel about them…

Oh and in case you were wondering the final print were a skeletal Megaloceros and skeletal Smilodon.

Zombies and Ghouls

Today I finished the painted zombies and based another nine ready for undercoating tomorrow. I decided to go for two units of twelve hence the extras.

I only did six of the larger ghouls to go with the Silver bayonet and decided to do some smaller ones. Instead of printing the individual components like last time I went for ‘building’ them in 3D builder. I dropped them down to 90% after sticking one next to a skeleton in the software.

I did twelve, most were built individually, but by about the eighth one I decided to mirror some.

I also hunted out my Mantic skeletons to see if I could add another unit… sadly they are tiny…

I said the printer was switched off until the undead were done… as you can tell by the above post… I turned it back on again and also went for some prehistoric beasties to act as dire wolves… basically some of these both armoured and unarmoured.

I felt they had a bit of an undead vibe going on.

Silver Bayonet and a bit of Painting

Today Joe an I had a morning of painting and then another game of Silver Bayonet.

We basically had to go and rescue some gold from a swamp… slight issue was the scary dog.

So we rolled as per the usual method, but more importantly was the controller of the spectral black dog. Muggins here lost the important roll and was attacked by the dog. It leapt onto my poor doctor who err fell over after getting a nasty bite from a dog who suddenly appeared. The terror roll was at minus 8 on my roll, which was a bugger as I rolled a four on two D10.

Luckily I gained control of the dog for a few turns and managed to get rid of the opposition’s swordswoman. My Supernatural investigator managed to get onto the flank and cause some casualties

My troops had also got their eye in and managed to drop both the officer and doctor. My occultist did everything she could to bless the weapon of the officer, eventually she made, it allowing the officer to wound the dog, sadly though the dog then attacked her…

somehow she survived, especially when a certain person used an awful lot of points to try and bump her off…

In the end the dog attacked the investigator, the occultist managed to bless his weapons, leading to the death of the beast.

In the end, Joe was down to two miniatures remaining, who took the sensible option and legged it.

This left me in charge of the battlefield as well as the gold… and for the first time a win.

It was a great game…

Zombies and Ghouls

Today I spent more time finding ghouls to print than I did painting. I decided to go for some multi pose ones as it will give me more options.

However as you can see they are huge. This is a problem using different creators…Now I am in two minds.

First is to give these ones away and reduce the size by about 20% so that they fit in as ghouls.

Second is to say bugger it and just run with them as they are… it is a fantasy army after all.

I want twelve of them and have three glued together and three are sitting on the printer so it won’t be too much of a hassle to shrink them and reprint.

I got this far with the zombies…
