Down by the Gatehouse

I eventually got the gatehouse finished. Probably close to sixty hours in total print time but I am very pleased with it.

I was going to do the portcullis, but decided against it as it would be a bit of a faff to lift it up and down. If it was down it would block movement and if it was up then it would stop miniatures getting in the building.

I am going to check the files to see if there any walls to go with it.

More Painting

Tonight we nearly had a bit of a disaster over dinner. Expected at 18.30 eventually got to eat it at 21.00. For some reason the gas stove decided to play silly buggers and decided that it would only cook at simmer temperatures. Luckily the roast pork was already cooked, everything else had to be cooked very, very slowly. Thankfully this did not happen when the power went off. I think it is the valve outside the house as all of the rings etc were the same.

After dinner I managed to get a bit more paint on the Possessed warband…

Still a fair old bit of white but I am getting there.

A Good Start to 2023

This evening I actually sat down and painted things.

Vae Victus cultists with Duncan Shadow Beastmen

I fully intended to paint the Witch Hunters, but these came out of the shelf first. Not a huge amount, but definitely a start.

The FDM printer has been busy too…this is where we are up to on the fortified gate.

I am printing one of the tower roofs now and once the second one is done then we will be onto the gate itself. The roof of the building detaches… it also has a slot for a portcullis inside.

Hopefully I shall carry on tomorrow, but with friends arriving at four then it may not be a huge amount.

Happy New Year

Well by now everyone who reads this will have made it into 2023.

I just wanted to wish everyone health, wealth and happiness for 2023.

In February 2022 I decided to call a halt to the daily blog. Well I had got up to 920 days straight.

I was feeling a bit disheartened as I was convinced I had achieved nothing this year hobbywise. I was wrong, over the year I actually achieved quite a bit.

I managed to print and paint an entire undead army that I had totally forgotten about.

I eventually finished off the 6mm Italian Wars stuff I started in 2021. To be fair, the fact I dropped a filament spool into the two Pike blocks I had finished and put a downer on the whole project.

Early in the year I did whole load of 28mm Flintloque miniatures for both my Silver Bayonet games and for my mate.

I also did a whole host of 15mm Sengoku Monster Hunter stuff for my mate as well as made him a host of market stalls for his birthday.

There were loads of other bits and bobs I worked on. The FDM printer made a whole load of terrain and the Resin one worked a lot in printing dwarves for Joe as well as various bits for me and the Geek club.

This is now my 11th day in a row, I doubt I will pass the 920 day record I set myself, but you never know.

Vlad and his Necromancer

Yes I got these off the build plate earlier and they are now sitting with their undead chums talking about old times, in the case of Vlad… very old times indeed.

As you can see, my necromancer isn’t the usual run of the mill version. I can see why Vlad chose this one.

Full Undead Ahead

I was chuffed this evening that I had got the undead all finished, I counted them then counted them again and suddenly realised I was missing someone. Yes, as I hadn’t used my list again then I had forgotten to print one of the most important characters in an undead force… the necromancer!

I had a mooch about, in case I had one, I did but it didn’t appeal to me as it was a skeletal necromancer. I decided that I wanted something different so chose a female miniature to act as my missing person. I will print her off during the day… this is the horde as it stands…

I also sliced the vampire in his human form, you know in case he wants to pop into Sigmar Haven for a quick bite.

I never got the Reikland lot sliced as I was too busy choosing a necromancer. Hopefully tomorrow.

Three Down

So that is three war bands fully printed.

Possessed, Sisters and Witch hunters.

The undead are done, they just need cleaning up and curing.

Tonight I think I will sort out the Reikland dudes as well as the ratty dudes.

How Big is an Imaginary Creature

So I printed out my ratty dude and glued him together. I left him original size and placed him next to a sister and a human male. Now the sisters are a bit smaller than I expected them to be. Scale creep hadn’t hit them like everything else!

He is the only one so I can easily increase the size of him, the book say they are the size of a man, but that could just be exaggeration. A man sized rat sounds a bit scarier than a halfling sized rat. However an angry normal sized rat can be very intimidating indeed.

In my mind the GW ones were bulkier and taller… evidently not. I checked in the book and saw this picture…

Photo: Mordheim book, GW, 1999

These might be metal miniatures from Warhammer so will be a bit smaller than the plastic Mordheim sprue.

Choices, Choices

So I now have four Warbands printed… I am struggling to choose a one to start with. So it’s over to you guys to help me out…

I have witch-hunters, undead, Sisters of Sigmar and the Possessed

Which would You choose and why?

I am a bit behind as I had to reprint various things as I had some epic print failures as well as completely messing up the scaling up and down notes ( the ones to stop me messing up the scaling up and down. This meant that my flagellants were very tall chaps.

I have done a test print of a rat-man warrior. I just have to glue him together in a bit to see how he looks size wise.

So if you were me, what ‘gang’ would you go for and why?

Armless and Not so Harmless

Today I carried on with printing miniatures. I did the remains of the Witch hunters . Two zealots and a pair of flagellants. As per my list I wanted the flagellants to have big smacky sticks. It was after I cured them I realised that I had chosen the wrong bodies for the said smacking sticks. So off I went to print two more bodies and a couple of torches and hand weapons to add to these armless ( or rather handless) one already printed.

The second print was a possessed beast. I Would go as far as saying that this chap will be anything but harmless. He has a big tooth filled gob and betentacled arms to boot. All in all not something you would want to meet in an alley in any form of light.

Once again these are a mix of miniatures . The two zealots are Vae Victus, the flagellants are from Erramir Orlans… my original imperial army miniatures. The possessed beastie was a freebie from Thingiverse… unfortunately I forgot to write down who designed it.
