You know sometimes you have an idea, execute said idea and kaboom something amazing appears
There are other times when the kaboom is a pile of poop. Can you guess where this us going?
So yesterday I posted shiny beetle…

I decided to paint over the shinyness and went for a nice green… Sat looking at the green, then got out a pretty purple, sat looking at the purple then got out a red… did I choose any of those nice colours? Did I buggery! No, captain brain dead here went for this….

Okay it isn’t a total balls up, but it definitely isn’t what was in my head. It may grow on me, but sadly the nice shiny bits will be covered by the saddle! The one in the background is demonstrating what this one will eventually look like.
I have to say I like the new effect – looks like old, beaten metal.

Yea, even if the experiment didn’t go as planned, looks like you have a recipe for something else!

I think it’s fine! 🙂 I’d maybe just drybrush it with bronze to give it a bit of a metallic highlight!

I almost said something the other day, as I tried this the other day, but it was skin tones, I tried to make a grey-ish skin with a purplish undertone. Standard acrlyics covered my Speedpaints, didn’t;t really work like I thought it would, but then I remembers you were using GW contrast. Looks like a similar result.
I wonder if semi-transparent inks might work better?

Cheers Eric, I think the fact I used black dipping ink probably didn’t help. But inks is a good idea. He probably will grow on me. It helps that he represents half of the entire unit I shall ever have.

On the minus side: plans rarely go as one wishes. On the plus side, as Davekay and Faust said: Look to the bright (no pun intended!) side of the tale: Unintended consequences aren’t always bad…

FWIW I like that toned down and grubby effect.

Pete.

I’d say it’s fine. If you wanted more a biological look, I’d dry brush in white and add a purple ink, but like I said, this works too
