Flipping heck… I actually managed to get some painting done this evening… I finished the cave and bushes…
I also managed to get my mates Flintloque miniatures done…
I got a good start on my miniature with the sword back left.
This is a super rare Fljntloque miniature, it is no longer available and hasn’t been for years. I spent a good while looking for her and eventually got her in a job lot. Of lTe I decided that she should either go to someone else or get painted. The Silver Bayonet allowed me to get her started as I have decided to go for a Spanish unit and she fits in fine.
I will get some more done on her tomorrow as well as get some of the Irregulars undercoated.
Well I am a bit more upright today and have managed to get bits and pieces done without the need for a lie down, the cough is still there, but not like it was.
I managed to get my wife’s home made bit of her present done… she is well into her knitting and tropical fish so I made her some stitch markers (a knitting thingy) in the shape of some tropical fish.
I found the STL’s on MyMiniFactory and printed them out yesterday and got them painted today.
I used a small drill bit to make a hole in the nose end and then superglued in a small ring with a screw thread. Isnt it amazing how it is, that as soon as you add superglue after a dry fit then all he’ll breaks loose. These were then sprayed white with masking tape covering the metal bit.
I then cracked open the Contrast Paint and set to work. The best way to describe this was an absolute bastard. They were tiny and fiddly and then they fell on the floor as my butter fingers got in the way. I then couldn’t put them down as the design for most wouldn’t allow them to sit. Luckily I had my broom shank bristles sitting there so they went in the ring to allow them to be hung up and air dry.
I then added a jump ring to the original ring and added a small clip as well.
Here they all are sitting on a plastic bristle ready to be put onto the card…
Unfortunately we are filling in an insurance claim as my wife hit a car on a roundabout this evening. Police came and sent her home saying… “it was an accident, they happen.” It was a black car, in the rain and dark, surrounded by Christmas lights and a super bright halogen light that shines straight in your eyes as you approach the roundabout. Luckily we have insurance for this. It will be up to ours and theirs to sort it out.
I have now lost my voice… thus is getting silly. I have gone very squeaky…Still feeling crap if I do too much, I am signed off tomorrow and have only Tuesday before I break up for the Christmas break. I am going to try and get back for the last day.
I did manage a bit of painting this evening, I got this lot done to this level in about an hour this evening…
Things were speeded up by the use of contrast paint and also reducing the amount of paints used. Pretty much the same paints were used across all four miniatures. In fact the only colour used on only one was the yellow on the dwarf on the painting handle.
As it was my youngest’s birthday today, I didn’t get that much done. The new arqubusiers are still in the printer shed, and I will print the third set off before i spray them white.
I therefore looked at what needed doing on the Ironclads…
It is not really visible on the photo, but the Hull bottom is in fact black. I will carry on with these sometime soon. Hopefully I will get the 6mm stuff printed tomorrow and then undercoated.
This evening I was feeling a bit better so I managed to get some work done on the German Fleet…. Still a long way to go, but definitely getting there….
I hollowed out the asteroid, but made the walls too thin, so will do it again tomorrow.
I also did some 6mm Italian wars stuff started too…
As you might have guessed, I am a little bored of this project… it honestly seems to be going on FOREVER…
Anyway I cracked on tonight and worked on another three sets of strips, getting them quite a long way on…
On the up side I do seem to be getting faster, I think. These need hats, feathers, Pike spikes and base to do. Hopefully I will get these done tomorrow and get a start on the next three set of strips.
Now these and the ones I finished yesterday seem a lot brighter than some of the earlier ones, but it might simply be that I have used different amounts of paint on the brush, I know that I am doing one at a time rather than spreading the same paint over a couple of models, the other possibility is that I have shaken the paint pots really hard over the last couple of days. For whatever reason, I really do like them.
This evening I got another three bases put together…
I also made a start on another few bases worth…
Ye gods this project is beginning to drag a smidge. The under coated ones above are the mix of flexible and ordinary resin, so they should be a bit more resilient. I doubt they would take a direct hit from a filament reel, but to be honest I don’t know what would. From what I remember I can do six strips in four days, or something like that so this lot should be done by the weekend. I will then assess whether I need to do any more. Hopefully my bristle pikes and a few extra miniatures here and there will sort out the damaged ranks of the original set.
Yes…I am still going with the pikes… the fourth base is nearly done another strip and a half short….again!
As you can see I have got a pile of arqubusiers and more pikes on the go. Joe and I were discussing the huge size of of the units and have decided to go for four bases to equal the eight in the rules. This actually means that I have three Landskecht Pike blocks done. I still need the Tercio so will use some of the above pikes to add to the rear ranks of the Spanish units.
I have the same number of arqubusiers and pikes base coated as the above image. I have about the same again undercoated. I will hopefully get the zweihanders primed tomorrow as they will become my Doppelsoldners for the pikes.
To be honest the plan to drop the number of bases may not work as it needs to look sensible compared to the other based miniatures… for example a Reiter cavalry force is six bases, all be it with only one miniarure block per base. I will have a check tomorrow to see how things look.
Warning, Warning, Warning… the following is as Trigger warning if you are a bit of an Anal Retentive…. I got fuel yesterday and this was the readout… the small lower number is the diesel price per litre.
Tonight I managed to get my first Pike block finished. I have added the skirmishers to the front.. their base needs some texturing with my vivarium sand and then painting. Now I need to check on this but I do remember some Pike blocks getting a base of Doppelsoldners too… but anyway here is a quick photo of the first one…
I need to get some paint onto the Pike bases too as there are some gaps…. probably the easiest way to do this is to paint green strips on or paint as I go.
I came soooo close to finishing my first Pike block this evening. I basically have a strip and a half or miniatures to add to make an eight base unit. I worked on both the Pikes to add to it as well as the skirmishers to stand infront of it.
Hopefully by tomorrow evening I will have my first Pike block completely finished. That will only leave three to go…🙄
Now as you can see frommthe above that is one hefty Pike block. Now each if my pikes has 8 bases per Pike block. It suddenly dawned on me that I could for speed reasons count the above as 16 bases. Each base could be equal to two. I will have to ponder this tomorrow…
