Totally knackered tonight! Finished work at 20.00.

I still wanted to keep the momentum going so I added the blazes and socks on the horses.

It really does make a difference to the look of them.

I went a bit wild and did probably more than would be realistic…

The camels almost got a blaze. I was on a roll and merrily slapping white paint on faces and noticed just in time.

Tomorrow I will carry on with the riders’ tunics and trousers.

Blue, sand and russet tunics done…

Some trousers done on them using the same three colours.

Still a long way to go but I feel that the end is definitely closer than the beginning. The problem is that they are now at the ‘they look really crap’ stage which I seem to hit with everything I paint. I sometimes think that photographing them as I go along doesn’t help.

Was my first thought ‘wow look how far I have come’ err no my first thought was that pale horse with the camel needs another wash, it is far too bright.

I know for a fact that once the rider is painted in and the groundwork is done then it won’t stick out as much.

I decided to call it a night early as quite frankly I am knackered.

I will get onto the greys and creams tomorrow.

I also got manes and tails done. Mostly grey or black to be honest.

I also started on the tunics and breeches. I started with red …. as is a bit obvious based on the photo!

I will get some blue and a sand colour onto the clothing tomorrow, a smattering of green and grey then they will be all finished…..I wish.

I am enjoying doing these though. I am trying to remember to make them bright so that they stand out.

I did find an unusual miniature in amongst the rest

His tunic is longer than the rest…. just checked on the Pendraken website… evidently he is Subedai… being a bit incognito as I know that I didn’t order the commander pack… I better check, as I might have done. If so Genghis and Jebei have also gone undercover too!

I don’t have a film with Mongols in it, so this had to suffice. I haven’t seen it for ages and forgot how much I liked it

I managed to get the horses started…

I took the undercoat and gave it a heavy dry brush of leather brown.

Once this was dry I randomly painted various colours onto the horses. These are the base colours. I will give them a wash once dry and then highlight them. Manes and tails after that.

When the horses are done I will move onto the riders.

I will have a look at some pictures of mongol horsemen to see what colours to do the clothing.

I managed a bit on the light cavalry today.

They have progressed from the bare metal.

Through to the sand onto the bases. The sand has been sealed with watered down PVA.

I stood them on the radiator to speed up the drying time.

The whole miniature was brush undercoated with Foundry Bay brown A.

The paint is still wet so it looks I have missed some of the undercoat . Well at least I hope I haven’t missed an6! I will hopefully get a heavy brown dry brush onto them tomorrow, not to mention covering up any of the bases that are showing any metal.

I have decided to have another go at 10mm figures.

Do I choose a half dozen figures.., errrr No!

There are:

26 bases of light cavalry

6 bases of medium cavalry

10 bases of heavy cavalry

There are also foot troops and civilians to go, but as I started feeling a bit weird with the superglue fumes I thought I had better stop!

These must have been sat in a box for five years. I got them from Pendraken the year they came out.

Someone very kindly gave me the suggestion to carry on with my French and Indian Wars stuff. I was going to and then sat and thought about it. My whole force was to be for skirmish gaming. I already have 45 painted woodland Indians do I really need another thirty? Same with the militia, I have some painted up already… how many do I actually need?

When painting 10mm figures I paint them on the base. Firstly it gives me something to hold onto and secondly it seems to be quicker. I tried painting them on strips, but Nick an old time regular on the Pendraken forum gave me the idea and I have gone that way since then.

They will never win any painting prizes, but it does get an army on the table relatively quickly.

I may actually start on my Amazon warriors.. these are on the whole naked ladies. With some of them on camels. A lot easier to paint methinks!

I do think that the sculptor needed to get out in the fresh air more and meet some actual ladies and not just Dolly Parton.

I have got one army pack already painted along with the barbarians. This will boost the fantasy horde.

They will probably need rebasing as I based them for Warmaster, but since then I have played Hordes of the Things more.

Also in the box were my plains Indians as well as a pile of Colonial British and Egyptian cavalry. Let’s not forget this chap! He is around 20 years old and one of these days I will get him painted.
