Back with the Yellow

Tonight I did some highlighting on the yellow. I also managed to get some gold onto the standard bearer too…

Really, really miffed that I missed the bloody crack on the yellow neck. I am not sure what to do to get rid of it.

Once this is dry I will get a glaze on the yellow and a wash on gold detail on the blue.

I will also work on the red alien in the background. I must also get back into the Genestealer cult. I reckon the annoyance of the yellow put me off painting things for a while. I honestly couldn’t face them.

Hopefully I will crack on with things this weekend.

On the upside, things are getting lighter here now, there was still a bit of light sky in the West at 19.00 this evening. It will soon be daylight 23 hours a day.

Working on the Yellow

Tonight we didn’t eat until late so, I didn’t get that much time to get a lot done. I tried some more Contrast, but once again it was a right mess. So out came the paint and while the Contrast was still wet I shoved it on over the top. A big thank you to everyone who sent their yellow vibes after yesterday’s post 🤟.

I will work on highlights and shading tomorrow and see how it looks. I had a close look at the undercoated miniatures and the paint has spattered onto them so they are a bit bumpy. I will see how they paint up soon. I really just need to decide on colours…. in a fit of efficiency one of the ‘nids’ is now sporting a funky flesh tearer red colour scheme.

I have decided that an early night is in order and I am going to take Mordheim for a read. A couple of kickstarters are now finished and I shall be firing up the printers today. In fact I had the Ender stripped down a bit and installed a new Bowden tube as well as a new nozzle. I decided not to use the original filament as it seemed a bit brittle. Problem is the new one had a hole in the bag so might be exactly the same.

Madame Mounts Up

Tonight I got a bit of a wiggle on and first of all sorted out the painting area… by sorting out please read ‘reduced the pile of crap on there by half’. I put away half of the miniatures as they were just getting in the way. The 10mm Mongols are still nearby in their undercoated state. I decided I would get the rest out of the bottom shed and see what the others looked like. This will involve emptying half the shed to get to them as some total nob head put two printers in there.

So sitting on there are eight Alternatives Armies miniatures, the nine Genestealer cult miniatures, Madame and the knight standard bearer.

So I got this far with her ladyship this evening…

I think I need to redo the yellow as well as tidy up the reins. I couldn’t think what colour to do the barding so, as I liked the blue on the knight, I went for that. I wanted it to be different from the knight hence the yellow.

I saw a rather good film on Netflix this evening about the battle of Long Tan called Danger Close. Now I was a bit of a a Vietnam Geek years ago and mainly gamed with the US Forces and had indeed heard of the battle the RAR took part in. However time, from then, had sort of erased it (or more accurately stored it away…haphazardly). whether it was an accurate depiction I honestly could not say, but it was a cracking film non the less

Small Steps on the Painting Front

It still feels like someone is sticking a red hot poker into the left side of my chest. I probably shouldn’t have done the wiring in the conservatory or put in the wall and shelf etc, but I did, it was a bit uncomfortable painting hence the small amount of time wielding a brush.

Just after taking the photo I dropped the black paint pot holder. I definitely should not have tried to pick it up whilst sitting on the stool. Bloody thing slipped out from under me and I ended up twisting things again.

We did not have a three course banquet today, but my youngest made a rather fabulous cake… feast you eyes upon this…

It was…amazing!

Bits and Bobs of Painting

My ribs are still burning, so after doubling up all the meds I could take I managed to get some work done on the Genestealer cult miniatures…

Still a very long way to go, but they are a bit further on than they were. The eagle eyed amongst you will have noticed a change to the jacket colour.

I got the dwarves flocked, they just need varnishing and probably some tufts put onto them…

And finally, I found an wood elf horse and tested it too… please note I do listen to advice and tried out the Dino mounts too. Of the three here I prefer the Trike’.

Tomorrow I hope to carry on with the cultists and Pendraken Mongols.

Belladona and a Whole Lot More

So I was mooching about in the shed looking for a mount for her ladyship. I now have three choices off the top of my head. Technically I could put her on a wood elf horse, but I don’t think it would work.

Now personally I prefer the top one as I feel the lines actually flow nicely from horse to rider, it is only an aesthetic thing, but I thought I would ask what other people thought.

As you probably know I do like my Contrast Paints, as I was mooching for the horse I found my Advanced Space Crusade and it looks like I was going for an early version of them…

For the big beasties and the unfinished ones they were done in GW washes and inks from what I remember. Soooo I have decided that these need an update so the five scouts and two ‘nids are going to be undercoated again and brought up to date. This will fit in nicely with Ann‘s Neglected but not forgotten challenge Here.

I managed to get the paint on the bases tonight….

As I had the brown out, I thought I might as well get the Mongol cavalry bases painted…before I paint the models! And finally, as I had some new whit I thought I might as well spray as much as I could before bed….

Another Day, Another Beach and some Painting

It was the last day of our long weekend and we ended up on another beach, this one is about 5 miles away from the one yesterday. It is the Tombolo I mentioned in yesterday’s post.

The tide was on the way in when we got there but it didn’t stop the kids running in and out of the waves, like they do! I came close to getting wet too…

I managed to get my second foot soldier finished this evening and photographed the wizard too…

As you can see from the above that I had a go at painting paving onto the bases. It really didn’t work for me so they will get the old sand and tufts treatment .

Finally, Army painter metallics are doing my head in… observe….

They are both stored in the same location and in the same manner, aka chucked in the box! The metallic ones leak everywhere and the others don’t really…it is really beginning to make me somewhat annoyed!

An Afternoon at the Beach and a bit more Painting

Today was a lovely day so we all went down to Levenwick Beach for a bit of a mooch, the kids of course played run away from the waves and thankfully there was no swimming this time.

We got an interesting collection of sea glass and I managed to find a bone of some sort in the sand near one of the unknown potential archaeological jumble of stones. I also decided to have a go at rock balancing, was sat there with some rocks and away I went!

By time I got round to painting, I didn’t really have that much time, but I did manage to finish the wizards and foot soldier (apart from the bases) as well as make a good start on another Knight and foot soldier.

As this is a long weekend then I have another day off tomorrow. The kids are wanting to go to St Ninian’s beach which is an excellent example of a tombolo.

And Finally, I have been spending some more money, this time on the second edition of The One Ring on Kickstarter.

A Bit of Painting and a Story

Well this evening I managed to get a bit of painting done, I would have got more done but I was doing a bit of another blog post on the Shetland ‘Werewolf‘. http://outaboutinshetland.home.blog/2021/02/20/shetland-werewolves-and-fish/

So I managed to get a bit more done on the wizard and foot soldier…

I also started faffing about with the banshee and doing so more on the Trollkin.

Still a long way to go, but getting there…

The Bases are Done

Well Sort of! Not sure why but tonight the term butter fingers could be used to convey my skill set, figures bounced across the table, I didn’t quite get to paint the basing glue on their heads but it came close. To be brutally honest, I think the brush I was using was too large, did I change it? Did I heck.

Anyway I need to clean the edges up and get them painted and then I am calling these done. I will probably seal the sand with Watered down PVA tomorrow and then get some kind of vegetation on there. I originally thought of adding snow, but I really do think that it would be too bright and would draw the eye towards the bases too much.

As can be seen from the photo. The lone werewolf is done and the mounted squire is almost done, just really the spear and sword to do. I also made a start on the AA banshee or whatever she is called.
