Undead Hussars… Greenstuff and Paint

Tonight when I hauled these in from the shed, two things became obvious (or more obvious). Firstly the small hole on the unprimed model, looked small, but on the primed one it looked like a chasm. Secondly, the riders were not going to stay sat on their horses with only a tiny bit of metal touching metal. Therefore I hauled out my Greenstuff and filled the hole as well as giving a big lump for the rider to sit firmly in place. I poked holes in it to paint it up a bit like a sheepskin. Why a wraith, would need a comfy bum is anyone’s guess, but at least he won’t fall of his horse😉.

The other thing I did, was to give them a quick test paint with one of the two reds I have. I really liked this colour when it went on so that was that 😉.

I did a quick test of the bone, which looks okay, so once the Greenstuff is dry, I will get it painted white. I still haven’t decided on the colour of the shabraque the rest of the bits are a black uniform jacket, red cloak and breeches. I might just go black and see how it goes.

Undead Guard Hussars – Making a Start

Tonight I didn’t get anything done on the Weyland Yutani commandos, I decided to make a start on the Sepulcherov Guard Hussars. These five miniatures are from the Flintloque range from Alternative Armies.

I only ended up with two lances, rather than the usual three. I have had them a while and cannot remember why this is. These have a two part caped cloak that means that they don’t sit on the saddle properly as the cloak sits on the blanket roll on the cantle. The arms come separate to the bodies so a bit of extra gluing took place to ensure more than one spot was connected for strength.

The skeletal horses are meant to have wings, but I have decided to leave them off as they are glued at the base of each and I can see them getting knocked off in transit, even with the white metal peg in a hole.

These Wraith cavalry are dressed in red cloaks, black tunics with white lace, red trousers, black shoes, and a black shako with a red top. Their gloves are white and horse furniture is black.

So they should work well with the Contrast paint (my gloves are more likely going to be a different colour. This is the beauty of an imagiNation style force. I can actually decide to do them whatever colour I like.

They will join their comrades in arms in terms of the lancers…

Only taken me two years to give them some back up….Funnily enough I was mooching through back back post and in September 2018 I said I would possibly start on the Hussars.

Evidently I painted some Krautian dwarves instead…

https://bogenwaldblog.wordpress.com/2018/09/27/the-krautians-are-finished/

So anyway after glueing them all together I took them out to the shed for a spray… forgot my mask… naughty, naughty – one really can’t hold one’s breath long enough!

Anyway here they are curing…

There was a bit of a space so Aragorn as Ellessar sneaked in for a change of undercoat colour.

You can see the holes the wings go into on the front two mounts…the other niggle with these is that the base size they are on is a lot smaller than the other cavalry.

Tomorrow I will hopefully paint the bases and then make a start on these, errr, chaps.

Friday’s Forgotten Forces

This triple F is one with a bit of a difference. Normally I have a mooch about in the shed to see what has been languishing in boxes for the last few years. This is different in that these were in the house and errrr different in that I forgot I had bought them.

So sitting on the shelf by my bedroom door was this box…

Hmm says I, whatever is in this box,? So I opened it….

That’s a bit weird says I, let’s get everything out…..

And in the bubble wrap was the following…

These arrived somewhere around 20th January and I actually took 2 out to act as models to show the size of things I was printing.

The models are the Elite light infantry of the emperor Mordred. As can be seen, they are a basic paint job, and by that comment I mean no disrespect to the painter. I was there once too when I sold mine…. but for £11.40 I am not going to complain.

I have just had a really weird thought. Wouldn’t it be funny if these were mine that I sold in a bring and buy around 20 years ago 😱.

I will have a mess about to add some shading and highlighting to see what I can do to improve them. I will also fling some base ready flock onto the bases too. The white looks quite shiny so I am hoping they aren’t painted in enamels…

The question is though, what should I do with them?

I bought them on a whim as they had a low starting bid, I had checked with friends and associates to see whether they were bidding on them too. It wouldn’t be the first time we have bid against each other 🤣. I put on a low bid on as most Flintloque stuff goes mad or doesn’t sell at all. It turns out there were only two of us bidding on them and they gave up before me.

Foolishly I have just gone and had a look… there are a pile of boxed sets up that I used to own and really liked…oh woe is me… But I shall be strong and will resist.

They are on for £17 buy now… but with 9 days to go….luckily my new laptop is with me and I have some nice statues to print off. That may divert my attention long enough!

Here are the two models, before they were reunited with their platoon…

Phew…I Made It!

Well that’s my December miniature marathon finished.

I managed to finish my Hussar Officer, well when I say finished….

The kids were great this afternoon, which meant I could work on him and get him done. I have visitors arriving in half an hour so I suppose I had better get sorted 😱.

So here he is in all of his glory

And from the other side…

Just don’t ask me what unit he is from… I picked colours I liked 😉.

Anyway that is me finished painting for another year.

I just want to wish anyone reading this:

health, wealth and happiness for the coming year.

See you all in 2019.

May your brush points stay pointy and your paint keep flowing!

All the very best.

Cheers

Steve.

Aaaarggghhh….One Day Left

I was hoping to get him finished before the end of the month.

I did push on a bit and get the horse finished though…

I still managed to do twenty miniatures in the month (I am counting the horse as a miniature 😁👍😁) which isn’t too shabby. I might get some time tomorrow afternoon, but not enough, I would imagine, to get the rider finished.

As I am bereft of the software to slice the 3D prints then I will just have to get back to painting things again 😉.

I did manage to successfully print a ladder today! Probably took five attempts but getting there.

There are still some issues with the extrusion for the top layer though. I test ran another couple of sundials, but got exactly the same issues of weird printing on the top layer. To be fair though, this is day four of my 3D printer career.

Undead Engineers… All Done

I managed to finish these off tonight…

They painted up really well, the only one I had a bit of a problem with was the one in the bearskin with the axe musket. I just couldn’t work out whether his features were spooky or shot.

The other one with the musket is not actually from the engineers set, he is from the original Deadloque set. He was lying around in a box with a few armed with pitchforks he was volunteered into the engineers on a whim!

I reckon I have time before the end of the month to get one or two more minis painted.

I will start with this one and see how far I get with him.

The tally this month is nineteen finished miniatures. Seventeen from Alternative Armies, one hobbit and half a plastic zombie from GW.

I have just had a thought… does the cavalry mini count as one or two???

Undead Engineers…A Bit More Progress

I managed to get motivated enough to slap some paint on these fine fellows…

Still a fair way to go, but closer than yesterday 😁

As tomorrow is Christmas Eve, I really doubt I will get anything done.

If I don’t manage to get online tomorrow, I just want to wish everyone a happy Christmas. If you don’t celebrate it, then I wish you a peaceful and contented couple of days.

Undead Engineers…little progress

The title says it all …. so little done this evening.

Hopefully I will get some more done tomorrow night… maybe the run up to Christmas isn’t the best time to try and get stuff painted. I was hoping to get twenty miniatures painted by Christmas Day (15 have already been done)… mwa ha ha!

Somehow I don’t think that I am going to make my self imposed deadline, therefore I am going to aim for the end of the month.

On the upside, these chappies don’t have many belts or straps to worry about, this should hopefully speed things up a bit 🤔

Undead Engineers

I was having a mooch amongst my gravestone sets and found the Undead engineers.

I managed to get them glued to their bases and then get a Bay brown undercoat. I will hopefully get some paint onto them tomorrow evening.

The following photo shows the fun and games that can be had leaving the island!

Taken by Sandy Macmillan’s Facebook page.

Nursey Ready for Action

I managed to work on Nursey this evening and got her finished in one sitting.

It helped that there weren’t too many complicated or fiddly bits. She was super easy to paint. Looking closely at some of the photos I could probably tidy up the Red Cross a bit more, but to be honest I am worried I will balls it up and sneeze or something and have red paint where it shouldn’t be.

Here she is reunited with the other two figures from the set.

I think this is one of my favourite sets in terms of the make up of the set and also the back story.

Rogipoos reminds me of one of my Role Playing Characters. Sir Percival Fanhard second earl of Lancaster and cousin to the King.

Percy and his friend Mr Lyle, the sugar magnate, had many escapades from the Spanish Main to Gibraltar. Another notable character was the great El Torro and his pet monkey Captain Pinch. Percy is the chap that bought the hag of Tortuga an occasional table as she didn’t have one when he tried to leave his card. The pair of them started a war between Spain and Britain over a complete and utter misunderstanding.

I still have the original character sheet, he got to 90 XP’s. The Pirates RPG was written by my good friend Wiggy Wade Williams, a very talented chap indeed.

Percy survived and had decedents. Some who have appeared in various games.

I will end with the Wisdom of El Torro

Beautiful women who are poor are to be admired from a distance, Beautiful women who are rich are to be courted. This is my Monkey, you may ignore him ……

Found in the personal papers of Percival Fanhard… dated 17 something or other…(cant read his writing) spent too long in Main… what with his constitution…. not a good combination!
