So I suddenly remembered that there were two Catalucian officers sitting in full view and have been since… at least 3rd February… so this evening instead of the Samurai I thought I might as well get them finished to join the rest of them.
To be honest, nothing fancy. The one in green has a weird moustache and in hindsight perhaps a lighter colour might have been a better choice for it. I feel a colour change coming on tomorrow.
I spent the last couple of days adding bits of white to the undercoated then Contrast covered elves. This evening I started adding colour to them.
As you can see these are different to the others, the drummer is still a mystery to me. I actually think he is kne of the Ferach (French) elves. The shako cover really does make me think that… I just couldn’t be bothered to check it out. Well he is now in the pay of the Catalucian elves…
Hopefully I will crack on with these tomorrow. Luckily I am on my Easter break so I might get the chance for sneaky painting sessions during the day.
Well, these ones are Finished… However, I have another five to make a start on tomorrow.
All, finished
Once I have all of the Catalucian’s painted then I will give them all a varnish at the same time.
These are the remaining ones that need an undercoat.
For reasons known only to myself, I bought a drummer! The only thing I can think of is that I was meant to get a sergeant ir something from the command pack and ended up clicking the wrong thing. I just checked and I cannot find him anywhere!
This evening I managed to make a bit more progress with the Spanish, or rather Catalucian Elves.
Two grenadiers, two irregulars, two line and a light infantryman. Obviously these are elves, but I have tried to use 1808 Spanish uniforms for ideas… as an example the grenadiers and regulars should have white cross belts, but as they are fantasy, then mine have black.
I actually used Speedpaints for the purple, but as you can imagine I was super careful to make sure it only went where it should go, especially when the uniform was white. Obviously I could have chosen a whole host of facing colours, but I fancied purple.
I still have to work on the white on the uniforms, as can be seen on the grayish leg on one of the regulars.
Out of interest, Shetland had a bit of an unusual visitor in one of the voes near to where I live…
The above is a sperms whale and it is bloody huge, sadly, as it is huge, it shouldn’t be there. I took some better photos with my camera. I will share them on the Shetland blog when I get them off.
This evening I ended up late in, but wanted to do something hobby wise, in the end I decided to put some Flintloque miniatures onto some 2p coins and get them sprayed.
It might actually kickstart me into finishing the two officers, last seen in this state….
To be honest I am not looking forwards to the white uniforms on some of them. I am hoping the white Contrast paint will help.
I am going to get back into a kayak tomorrow evening at a pool session with the Shetland Kayak club, so the above miniatures will probably be started on Friday.
It wasn’t a bad evening on the way to do the horse…
Today I got both remaining Ogre Doppelsoldners finished. Tomorrow I will base them all up… but here are the last three done.
As you can see, I went for bronze armour for the last of them. So that is all of them done. One in Speedpaints and the rest in Contrast. The straps on the best plates were a sod to do carefully so a bit of re-undercoating took place. Luckily it was Contrast so there was no issue.
Interestingly Dana Howl has done a video comparing both ranges and in this she says that Army painters are not for beginners which is interesting in itself. Dana’s video . Are we going to see lots more people doing something similar now. I have noticed a few YouTube channels that are mentioning problems more openly.
Dana did say that the longer drying time of the Speedpaints allowed for good blending among other things.
Tonight I finished off the Ogre commander and set to work on another minion…
I really like the miniature, apart from he seems to have a small left hand. He is evidently one tough cookie as he has less armour than everyone else. Sticking a point stick into him will probably just piss him off.
As you can see the second one has blackened armour. The arms and legs on his harness are going to be gun metal. More to make each if the six stand out than any other reason.
Hopefully the remaining two will be finished this weekend.
Today was a day out of school, I had to redo my First aid training… luckily Bob, the CPR dummy survived the ordeal… Because of covid we had to bandage ourselves as well as put ourselves into the recovery position.
This evening I thought ‘sod it’ and got the paints out. You will not be surprised to hear that these were my Contrast Paints and not Speedpaints.
As you can see, I finished another Ogre Doppelsoldner. This was done pretty much in the same way as the other two, but for a bit of a change I gave him a blackened helmet. He probably isn’t as colourful as the other two as he is a lot more armoured.
I decided to crack open the AP metallics… every single one looked like this…
They are all stored lid upwards so they didn’t leak out whilst stored. I actually watched the paint flow out like lava from a volcano… totally weird.
I also got a good start on the Ogre leader… as befits his status I have him a gilded breastplate… once again the mettalics were a pain. I shook for ages then got the vortex mixer out and it still took three coats.
Hopefully I will get the leader finished tomorrow and the remaining two not long after.
