Possessed Finished

Almost…

Well I cracked on this evening and got the possessed pretty much done.

I could do with adding a bit of shading onto the weapons. All in all I am quite pleased with these. I 3D printed a horde of skulls which I will add to the bases. I now have the ability to make my own tufts so I will see what coloured grass I have.

I also started printing some walls with railings…

I am rather pleased with these. Each section takes 1 hrs 22 minutes to print. I am thinking of going for a 3 x3 section which I will turn into a graveyard… the gateway below is from this set and to be honest looks too big, but I will see what they look like with it.

Painting and a Map

Today I sat and sat and probably sat some more looking at a blank piece of paper covered in hexes. I had a mind block that wouldn’t let me put pencil to paper.

I went online to look for inspiration and came across a web based hex map maker and the clouds of doubt parted and within minutes I had something I was happy with.

Ignore the dots, they aren’t part of it.

The above allowed me to get some ideas down. After I did this I made another one with farmsteads, a village and a ruined building in the wilds.

I also got some more painting done…

Still a long way to go but the white is beginning to disappear.

An Early Night

I thought i would get a bit painted this evening, but it wasn’t to be. I went to bed early and watched the new Pinnochio. It was a cracking film that I thoroughly enjoyed. I never read the book so don’t know how true to the original it is.

I do like a bit of stop, motion animation and this was excellent.

Not a bad evening

A Bit of Slicing and the Odd Map.

Nope no painting this evening as I needed to get some things sliced ASAP. I also got the remaining Reiklanders sliced too. Prepare for some gratuitous photos this weekend.

After various chores I decided to have another look through my Christmas present from Joe. Now One hex in The One ring is 20 miles. So it got me thinking of making some more detailed maps for areas of interest. Hence the hex paper.

I also started looking at the 1888 Ordinance Survey maps of the place where I came from in Northumberland/County Durham.

Now I am going to be honest here. My One Ring World has never been canon to Tolkien as I firmly believe that people didn’t just desert places permanently. So mine will have farmsteads, townships and the like… hence the OS maps.

Each of my maps will be 20×40 miles…so a fair old bit of space to fill on each one.

This may be the start of something new or fall by the wayside, but if truth be told I did like making maps in many of my earlier games.

It Wasn’t a bad morning on the way to work today…

Whoops Went Down a Rabbit Hole!

Well I was going to get things painted this evening then I started looking for some old family photographs… didn’t find those, but found some other bits and pieces… why – well I joined a Facebook group about the village where I used to live… my grandparents and father lived there until the 60’s and we moved back there in the 80’s. Now we live far, far away… but I was hunting out photos from the 30’s and 40’s.

I ended up finding my Grandfather in the 1921 census and then going down that Rabbit hole.

Hopefully tomorrow I will proceed down the painting route…

I saw this and it did make me laugh!

Down by the Gatehouse

I eventually got the gatehouse finished. Probably close to sixty hours in total print time but I am very pleased with it.

I was going to do the portcullis, but decided against it as it would be a bit of a faff to lift it up and down. If it was down it would block movement and if it was up then it would stop miniatures getting in the building.

I am going to check the files to see if there any walls to go with it.

More Painting

Tonight we nearly had a bit of a disaster over dinner. Expected at 18.30 eventually got to eat it at 21.00. For some reason the gas stove decided to play silly buggers and decided that it would only cook at simmer temperatures. Luckily the roast pork was already cooked, everything else had to be cooked very, very slowly. Thankfully this did not happen when the power went off. I think it is the valve outside the house as all of the rings etc were the same.

After dinner I managed to get a bit more paint on the Possessed warband…

Still a fair old bit of white but I am getting there.

A Good Start to 2023

This evening I actually sat down and painted things.

Vae Victus cultists with Duncan Shadow Beastmen

I fully intended to paint the Witch Hunters, but these came out of the shelf first. Not a huge amount, but definitely a start.

The FDM printer has been busy too…this is where we are up to on the fortified gate.

I am printing one of the tower roofs now and once the second one is done then we will be onto the gate itself. The roof of the building detaches… it also has a slot for a portcullis inside.

Hopefully I shall carry on tomorrow, but with friends arriving at four then it may not be a huge amount.

Happy New Year

Well by now everyone who reads this will have made it into 2023.

I just wanted to wish everyone health, wealth and happiness for 2023.

In February 2022 I decided to call a halt to the daily blog. Well I had got up to 920 days straight.

I was feeling a bit disheartened as I was convinced I had achieved nothing this year hobbywise. I was wrong, over the year I actually achieved quite a bit.

I managed to print and paint an entire undead army that I had totally forgotten about.

I eventually finished off the 6mm Italian Wars stuff I started in 2021. To be fair, the fact I dropped a filament spool into the two Pike blocks I had finished and put a downer on the whole project.

Early in the year I did whole load of 28mm Flintloque miniatures for both my Silver Bayonet games and for my mate.

I also did a whole host of 15mm Sengoku Monster Hunter stuff for my mate as well as made him a host of market stalls for his birthday.

There were loads of other bits and bobs I worked on. The FDM printer made a whole load of terrain and the Resin one worked a lot in printing dwarves for Joe as well as various bits for me and the Geek club.

This is now my 11th day in a row, I doubt I will pass the 920 day record I set myself, but you never know.

Vlad and his Necromancer

Yes I got these off the build plate earlier and they are now sitting with their undead chums talking about old times, in the case of Vlad… very old times indeed.

As you can see, my necromancer isn’t the usual run of the mill version. I can see why Vlad chose this one.
