So my 6mm army is finished, well apart from the varnishing…
If truth be told, they were actually fun and easy to paint. Once I redid the crossbows they looked a lot better. So tonight I found the sons of Set army and got them resprayed.
I want to get some more practice in before I paint the samurai…
So I now have three armies to paint, these, the samurai and some wood elves. Oh yeah and another larger army on the way. I decided to give Baccus 6mm a go. They are supposed to be really good. I was lucky and managed to get an order in before the online basket shut again. More Samurai as I fancy doing a 6mm Samurai battle for the Games day in October.
I went for their army pack as well as a few other bits and bobs. I might even branch out into a different period…possibly Ancient Greek…
Tonight I cracked on and got a fair bit further forward with the Lizardmen.
I decided to redo the crossbows and they do look better with the lighter colour. I will get the bases all done tomorrow. I think once that flock has been added then they will look pretty nifty.
So tonight I decided to do a bit more with the teeny lizards. I wasn’t really in the best of moods for it, but I got on with it.
I don’t know whether I actually like these or not. It might be they are at that awkward stage or it might just be the blue. I haven’t really decided.
I think that one of the problems is that the crossbow wood is too dark, I am definitely going to have to get it redone a lot lighter. The other problem is that there is still a fair bit of white visible. Once that goes they may look better.
I decided to get the flash taken off the bottom of the wood Elves earlier too. I used a file and the came up a treat…
A couple of times up and down on that thing and they were super smooth on the base.
So today I set up the village and shrine with a few miniatures too.
I am really pleased with how everything came out. I was going to flock the edges of the pond, but decided against it. I may have a rethink tomorrow and do it anyway 😊
Another view of the same scene!
So that is everything done, including varnishes too. The only thing missing is the rice cart…
I also managed to get some more done on the 6mm lizards…
They aren’t looking too exciting at the minute and I think I may have done the crossbows a bit too dark, but we shall see tomorrow.
So today I decided that I needed to get some water into the ponds and paddy fields and here is the result…
I added clear to the ponds then put a couple of drops of sepia ink into the paddy fields. This is the first time I think I have used a two part resin. I have used other stuff years ago… so absolutely no idea what his will end up like.
I also got all the miniatures and buildings coated in a couple of layers of Matt varnish. The shrine and fences have been coated too.
Hopefully by tomorrow I will know whether the resin pour worked 🤞
If it has I will get these flocked up to go with the miniatures. Soon I will be moving onto these.
Tonight I got a bit of a wiggle on and got some more done on the fences…
All 3DAlienWorlds apart from the Buddha
I have misplaced the foam flock that I used on the village roofs. I wanted it for the Tori and the Buddha. Hopefully it will turn up tomorrow.
The minis and houses have all had two blasts of gloss varnish. I will give them a blast with the Matt one tomorrow.
I also found a pile more 6mm fantasy, some Irregular miniatures Lizardmen and wood elves I think. I also have the sons of Set army too which would probably go well with the Samurai as they are the fantasy version of them.
WordPress is eventually costing me money as I ran out of space last night. I really never expected that day to come, I will just have to take less photos or blog less often….nah, I have two years to fill up 6GB… challenge accepted 😂
So that is it, the miniatures are all painted and based. I need to get the bases sealed with watered down PVA and then everything varnished. But thank the lord for that. These have been a bit of a chore, but at least they are finished.
These seem to have taken a lot longer than I thought they would. I suppose in all honesty I have been making and painting the terrain that came off the printer, so it isn’t really surprising.
A bit more of a close up shot.
Tomorrow I will get on with buildings and hopefully get them sorted soon.
So this afternoon, whilst my daughter painted a wooden ship, I decided to get some gunk onto the bases of the various miniatures.
Once the gunk has dried I will paint in the white bits and get the edges painted too. Once dried it will be onto the flock etc. The gunk in this instance is home made wood flock, a bit of sand, filler, brown paint and PVA.
I could have just chucked the flock on, but with the superglue potentially being iffy I decided to get this done to help hold the mini down. I gave them all a poke to see if they were going to budge and thankfully they all seem secure now.
I still have bits and pieces to finish on these, but I thought I might as well do this as it would take a while. It probably took longer to base them than it did to paint the Goblins last night.
I have struggled with these and I think it was because I don’t really like them. Now this is not a case of having a dig at the sculptor, but there is something a bit ‘meh’ about them for me. It definitely isn’t the subject material as I am probably going to get some more Battle Valour monsters to go with the Oni. I have a pile of Alternative Armies 15mm fantasy miniatures which I love (not to mention hundreds of Flintloque 28’s). I kind of feel bad saying it, but if these weren’t for my mate I would have probably put them in a box and forgot about them. Maybe it is just a phase and once they are done and finished I will like them. I actually just had a thought there. The ones I liked really worked well with Contrast paint and the meh ones did, but had weird poses. The Japanese school girls in uniforms are, to be frank, totally out of place, unless they are for modern monster hunters.
At least they are nearly done and I can get on with this lot next…
So here we have half a dozen (small) ronin. A dozen villagers and village things, three ninja (or Shinobi as I should really call them) and half a dozen large oni with big weapons.
He ronin are smaller than the villagers which is a bit weird. I never noticed until I had them ready for spraying. I will have to see if the other types are smaller.
