Been a busy evening

Managed to build a card house from the talented Dave Graffham, managed to put the roof on the wrong way round, but luckily the copydex hadn’t fully cured and I managed to get it sorted. I will be using it and the other few for my 28mm skirmish games.

I also managed to finish Goyah, I really like this set and am glad I bought it. Finally I finished off the 5 undead that have been sitting there for ages. Unfortunately I was in a ush with them at the start and instead of stripping the old paint off I just sprayed an undercoat on. Bad mistake, they lost a lot of details and frankly they look a bit pants. Probably the reason I couldn’t be bothered to carry on with them.

I suppose I had better finish off my last lancer sometime soon.

Undead purchases

Well this purchase was rather Wierd. I was perusing my favourite Ebay flock and scatter shop and noticed they sold figures. So I had a mooch. Noticed these with 10 minutes to go with no bids. Checked out some more clump foliage and as it does with Ebay it warned me that these were nearly gone. So I went back to look. Ye gods I thought 5 seconds to go….4…..3…. panic stepped in would I have time to hit buy…2…….1 and like some cheesy spy film the counter stopped at 1…. they were mine…. It then struck me… why the heck did I just buy some Mantic skeletons when I didn’t even want any! It was all a bit wierd. Well at least I have 22 skeletons to build and paint up for Dragon Rampant.

Still not bad for £14.50 all in, I just can’t work out how it happened….

Little and Large

I painted these two a good while ago now. I really like the gnome – something I think we should have a range of… The Liche is a bit imposing, but a lovely figure nonetheless.

Staff officer part II

Managed a little bit more today on my staff Officer.

Background from: https://travelaway.me/whats-hot-this-summer-english-countryside/
Colonel Charles Augustus Makepeace spent years abroad fighting in far flung areas of the empire. Called back to fight the Ferach in Urop he arrived back with half a dozen halflings who unbeknownst to him has stowed away in the food lockers. Although found early enough to avoid starvation for the entire crew the colonel couldn’t quite bring himself to send them back.

They were distraught that the colonel was leaving them. After all they had promised to follow him wherever he went, well he thinks that is what they said.

The diminutive chaps always surround the colonel wherever he goes. They merrily gabble on in their ‘heathen lingo’ to one another and supply the colonel with a veritable banquet every night. When asked where they got such fine food they either don’t understand his questions or perhaps don’t want to answer. The fact that most camps, billets or lodgings often seem to be short of food are surely a co-incidence.

The colonel has to be especially careful with his Brandy. This he keeps locked up in a very strong chest. He does not want another episode involving his chaps from the HEVC, the goose grease and the general’s daughter. He would never ever live it down.

Bange and Oafson finished

Well that s my Trollkin officers finished. These are from a nice range of figures. I will no doubt, over time, have to get some Jäger to go with them. They are a bit of an army all by themselves, so reinforcements may have to wait. I went for this pair as they are limited edition, these might disappear, like some of the ones I want.

Bange and Oafson

Started painting this dynamic duo up. Although it states they can change their skin colour I went for a normal flesh colour. I also went for a Ferach blue uniform with green facings to denote a Jäger battalion. I worked on the principal that as the uniforms don’t fit then they have had to squeeze into someone else’s.

Still a lot of work to do on these.  I managed to replace the spearhead using the head of a plastic French medieval spearman. Drilled out the hand and superglued the replacement in.

I would have got a whole lot further if I hadn’t started playing on Minecraft 😱.

Why Flintloque and not Napoleonic

Having spent a number of years as a Napoleonic re-enactor as both Polish Lancer and a British light infantryman, you might think I would go for the straight Napoleonic wargames. Well yes I have dabbled in the genre, but it never really took off. I bought the original Sharke’s rifles when it first came out and I really enjoyed the idea. But as with most gaming groups I ended up being the only one still keen. So as I didn’t play any more they went the journey. Roll forward a good few years and my mate Wiggy bought some and the interest was rekindled. I hunted through my boxes of stuff and found odd figures here and there. the odd Ebay purchase also helped. But on the whole most have come from Alternative armies.
But why Fantasy Napoleonic, well I suppose it is because, I enjoy the humour and as it is ‘imaginations’ I feel I am not bound by a total accuracy of uniform (I am not bothered that an August 1809 uniform is different to the March one of the same year).

I really like the ranges offered, but if I was to be brutally honest I cant get my head around the Colts range (Centaurs). Out of all of the ranges this is the only one.

I am pleased that Alternative armies does a range of civilians for most of their races, and if not actual civilians some of their other figures will do the part.
