A Bit more Printing

The advantage of working from home meant that I could press print more than once on the Ender 3.

Spot where the lake is going to go!

I am going to print a fair few more of these as well as some roads. Still not sure what I am going to do with them😉. Doing small runs is a good way to get things going in the right direction. My first ones were one of each tile so I got some that I probably won’t use. Choosing specific tiles makes it easier to get a map that I want.

I also set about printing some resin miniatures, you will have to wait until tomorrow to see them as the print time was 14 plus hours, so they are going to finish sometime around 02.30.

I am printing the Hunter, his two dogs and the town guard…

Once these have finished I have got a couple of wights to print.

Night Off…

Tonight I was being Dad’s Taxi, so by time I got home, washed the dishes etc. I couldn’t really be bothered, plus I had a parcel in the post.

I totally forgot I pre ordered this 😂

It has s a lovely book with good atmospheric illustrations…

It came with a host of extras too…

the map itself is huge.

So after watching one hit wonders from 1968 to 2005 on YouTube I read the rules..

Sad thing is a lot of the one hit wonders I really liked!

Tomorrow I will get back to painting something 👍

No Painting Tonight

Well, as expected, I managed to paint nothing tonight.

I have been building a lean to greenhouse for my mother in law, then came back and turned straight around to get my daughter to her party. I just got back in and quite frankly can’t be arsed to paint anything.

As I was waiting I did some work on my RPG I will be running tomorrow.

Yes we are back off to middle earth. I put a Facebook post up on the club asking if anyone was interested… eight people put their names forward so I am likely going to be running two sessions to fit everyone in. Some people may not like the system whilst others do so I will have to see how many stay the course of the campaign.

The following photo was taken in a cafe, so it is a little washed out.

Tomorrow will be a one off to get people going (some people can’t make it this week) so we will begin proper next weekend.

Gaming, Not Painting

No painting tonight but we did get a bit of gaming in. The characters are attached to a trade caravan and are attempting to find the murderer of a ranger.

Here we have the caravan. All but the horses and a single figure are printed.

The attack of the wolves caused a bit of consternation with an elf fighting alongside a dwarf before it became fashionable in Middle Earth.

Okay the dwarf had gone into a beserk rage and had charged the nearest wolves, he happened to see them before he saw the elf. Luckily the dice was on the side of the elf as the dwarf charged off rather than turning his attention to Tauriel.

But will they catch the killer before they get to Bree, that is the question.

The Eye of Sauron is Watching You

Funniest night I have had running an RPG tonight.

The party of four having braved the Midgewater marshes, managed to successfully locate the lost barrow. After that it all went rapidly down hill. ”Twas a simple task!” Climb down a rope have a mooch about, see what all the fuss is about. Climb back out….Problems…. in the ‘One Ring’ RPG an eye of Sauron on the D12 is a bad omen. Firstly it gives one zero points for that dice and secondly it increases the knowledge of the whereabouts of the party to Sauron who will direct his power to thwart them. This can be a warband of orcs or the ‘world’ turns against them. Think Cahadras in the Lord of the Rings. The Threshold in the area they were in was eighteen…They started the session with six. Less than an hour later they were up to fourteen.

The big problem was, firstly they had to climb down a rope into the barrow. The graceful elf of Mirkwood went first. She threw her four dice (3D6 and her D12) she needed a mere 12 due to her athleticism… the eye of Sauron and a grand total of four points. Down she fell… winding herself in the process. the hobbit Hoban rushed to her aid, got another eye and fell in too… luckily he landed on something soft … the elf. The ranger managed to get in without any problems at all.

Hoban then fell through a weakened floor to a flooded lower level, nearly drowned but was fortunate enough to be rescued by the party and also managed to accidentally grab some treasure on the way out.

If you thought getting in was bad, getting out was worse. Never have I seen so many failed roles, every failure involved an eye.

A cursed rope was blamed…it was a nice normal rope to begin with but it must have somehow become tainted as they couldn’t get out of the barrow. After eventually escaping they met some baddies, beat them, rescued a major NPC and threw a lot more eyes…. the weather turned against them and the normal rule of needing was overruled meaning an 18 was required. So wet, bleeding and footsore they struggled back to Bree.

All in all a hoot of a night.

Cardboard Heroes

Tonight I was working Late (ish) on converting the old byre (I took this photo earlier in the day).

Then after tea and a bath, followed by a family DVD night I had no chance to paint anything.

Instead my daughter and I had a look through our RPG bag.

Behold… our figure storage for all of our heroes, baddies and NPC’s

This little lot holds around 60 ‘figures’ and could quite easily hold around 500 more!

They are all card from the very talented Okum Arts. I used to use plastic and metal figures and these took up time to paint and space to store. One day I had an epiphany and I started hunting for flats. Eventually, after a fair bit of searching on RPGNow. I found a style I really liked. They were bright and colourful and a little bit cartoony.

To my mind David Okum was the artist I was looking for. The good thing about the card minis is that one can print as many as you like.

So let’s have a look at our heroes first.

A ranger, a wood elf of Mirkwood and a couple of hobbits from the Shire

These four have battled many foes around Bree.

Some of them are below:

Orcs and Wargs

Goblins

Another thing I like about these is that the colours can be changed to add a bit of variety. These are green and grey, but there are about four different shades to choose from.

Civilians – with the layering option weapons can be removed, really handy if you want unarmed characters to stand out.

There are lots of races to choose from, I think I pretty much bought them all

Occasionally I need a troll or four!

I seem to have misplaced my ents, which is a bit of a pain as they are really good too.

As you might have guessed I like my Tolkein and the Roleplaying game that hits the spot in my mind is…

Moving away from the RPG side of things…. to

One of the other things I bought from Okum Arts was an awesome winter game called Snowball wars. This fun little game has everything you need apart from dice to allow you to print and play. We haul it out every winter and the kids all gang up on me.

Hopefully tomorrow I will get something painted.
