Weyland Yutani Commandos…on a Roll

Tonight I felt like I made a lot of progress, I didn’t, but it felt like a lot 😁

Not much white left on the miniatures now. I went for a black on the weapons and also did a lot of tidying up as well as painting boots and gloves.

I have been using my 20p brush for all of these…

It is beginning to get a bit of a bend in the tip, but my AP and GW ones did too.

Hopefully tomorrow I will get the bases done 👍

Wey Yu Commando…Further Work

Tonight was a slow, slow…slow white painting session… but eventually I got all of the white recoated…

As can be seen from the above, I managed to get some other colours on too. These are now at the ‘I hate them’ stage. Still a lot to go on these, but getting there. The floors will be the same colours as the prisoners and aliens. The elbow cup is a bit annoying as it is in the wrong place, it is still on the elbow, but it just annoys me, not sure why.

Boots and gloves tomorrow as well as the weapons. I am going to repaint the smart gun tomorrow as I want it to be different to the the green pouches. I will do the same colour for the pulse rifles and flamer. Not quite sure what colour yet, I will see what colours I have got. Possibly black and gun metal.

Wey Yu Commandos

Tonight was a bit of a late one so not much done, but I did manage something.

I also decided on a colour scheme of sorts…

This is the state of play so far, the other armoured sections will be the same colour as the upper body. I just needed to repaint the various bits back in in white.

I am quite intrigued by the galerus on the left shoulder. Definitely gives protection to the neck on that side, especially when firing. Pouches etc will be a military green (I think) happy to hear people’s thoughts on that.

I decided on this colour scheme as I wanted them to be in a different uniform to the marines (camouflaged), one that stood out. Meaning no confusion on the tabletop.

I really should get the marines out to see how this lot compare size wise. The originals were on a recessed base (as were the aliens and Predators).

So plans for tomorrow is to repaint the white bits that need it and then get on with the armour. I painted these in one of my new 20 pence (size 0) brushes. It seemed to survive unscathed.

Crusher and a Parcel from Wish

Tonight, when I got in, I found a small parcel that has come from the other side of the world. I decided to give Wish a try on some paintbrushes.

So for the grand total of £2 I got this lot…

I haven’t given them a go yet, so cannot comment on how good they are.

I managed to get some paint on the Crusher.

As can be seen from this photo, the paint isn’t dry yet.

Not as much progress as I wanted this evening, but it is definitely a start. I was going to do the bases on the commandos. I still haven’t decided on a colour scheme yet so that was a safe place to start 😁.

Our School Sunday Teas made £630 for our nursery outdoor area. The rest of the school made £120 with their craft stall. So it was worth it in terms of financial gain. Not really having a weekend was a bit of a pain in the bum to be honest though.

Hopefully tomorrow I will get something painted. I have parents evening Wednesday and Thursday so will need to make some notes to keep me on track.

Commandos and Crusher… Sprayed and Ready to go

So tonight I am knackered, we had a really successful Sunday Teas, my humble offerings…

Top left Nigella Lawson’s Brownie recipe: https://www.nigella.com/recipes/brownies

Top right a random rocky road recipe

And bottom left Hugh’s flapjack recipe: https://www.rivercottage.net/recipes/flapjacks

It was quite a good spread, this is about a quarter of the stuff we had brought in…

We haven’t totalled up how much money we made overall. My classes will count up the money tomorrow to see our profit over all.

Anyway tonight the Commandos were sprayed white and are curing, ready to have some paint chucked on them (still not sure what colour I intend to do). Most shots of the Wey Yu commando is them in white and cream. Personally I want to do something different. My Marines are in full camouflage. I am thinking some kind of blue or grey, but will have a mooch to see if I can find any reference images.

I also triple sprayed the Crusher too. Black from underneath, then grey and a final highlight of white. I will get on with them tomorrow.

The crusher will be painted the same way as the smaller xenomorphs. To be frank they are totally different to the original ones. They were painted black then highlighted blue. This looks a bit powdered on the white, I didn’t warm up the paint and probably didn’t shake it up enough. Lesson learned!

I am still after some more Alien warriors, some are appearing on EBay quite regularly. I also really want the sergeant who is sort of Apone from the Aliens film.

I will avoid the ‘Dutch’ miniature, as I really do not like the sculpt. He basically has, or seems to have a power fist???

The other thing I am on the hunt for is, as mentioned before, are the Predator hounds. Now there are two options here. The original twin pack of the hounds, which come without a textured base and then the unicast edition which has them clambering over some rubble and a marine with his intestines hanging out. Which is a bit over the top in my opinion especially if you are only hunting aliens!

The upside with the unicast edition is that they are, as the name implies, a single cast miniature, so no glueing needed. I will have to see what price things are coming in at and make my choice based on cost.

Predator…Almost There

So tonight after a day of baking (well okay and afternoon of baking) I managed to get my Predator close to the finishing post…

Still some tidying up to do on him and finish him off, but the end is in sight.

I also received my parcel today. Once this lot is finished, I will have to make a start on these chaps…

A smart gunner, flamer and three with pulse rifles. I really do like the poses on these.

I do like the Weyland Yutani Commandos as they will give a nice ‘bad guy’ force to the game without being Xenomorphs or other gribbly things.

A few of these are a bit shiny which would indicate they have some mould release on them, so tomorrow they need a bath and and then a spray.

My school is having some Sunday Teas tomorrow… a Shetland tradition. So today I have baked flapjacks, rocky roads and brownies. They turned out rather nice.

Hopefully I will get a chance to get more done on these tomorrow. Wish me luck!

Aliens… Pushing Ahead

So tonight I pushed on a bit, (not that you can really tell) but both the Aliens and the prisoners are just about done.

I also moved the Predator a bit further on too.

This last one still has a fair old way to go. But it is heading in the right direction.

As I have been getting further on with these, I have started taking a bit more notice of the floors. Is it me or are they an accident waiting to happen. Cables, ducting, piping and the odd big lump of something heavy too. Now to be fair, the back story is that an interstellar craft crash landed on a jungle world, perhaps the floor used to be a ceiling. Either way I wouldn’t want to be running full tilt, chased by a xenomorph across that lot.

Hopefully my Weyland commandos will arrive tomorrow and I can make a start on them.

I am now checking various sites to see what else there is out there. Predator hounds seem a little sparse on the ground, well they are within my price range.

Hopefully tomorrow I will crack on a bit more with the Predator and get the decks cleared for wherever the paintbrush goes next.

Aliens… Flooring Done

Tonight was the HOTT competition and sadly my daughter has a chest infection so I couldn’t get there. Every cloud has a silver lining as the saying goes. This meant I could do some work on the floors.

The prisoners are all but finished, as are the Aliens. I am not too convinced about the bright cables, but they might grow on me.

In the end I went down the AP wash route. I used the Contrast black as oil or some other dark spills on the floor, not that you can really tell.

Tomorrow I will finish of ‘Bishop’ and then make a start on the Predator.

I do feel like this lot are coming together now.

Aliens… Metal Flooring

So with not much time again tonight I just went for a straight metallic floor. I will give it an Army Painter Dark wash or a ‘watered down’ Dark Contrast. More likely the AP route but we shall see. I am still experimenting with the Contrast so it might be worth a try. If it is crap, the the AP wash will cover it.

The idea is that all the cabling and trunking will be painted different colours, so it is likely that tomorrow night will be back to painting white again.

There is still a fair bit to go on the humans, less on the Aliens but a whole lot to do in the Predator.

I am beginning to get to the ‘past the crap look part’. Once again the only paint used is Contrast apart from the metallics.

I will leave you tonight with a thoughtful quote…

Aliens… Further Progress

Well, not the Aliens, but the prisoners got some more paint onto them this evening.

I am getting there with these, but to be honest I am not sure what colour to do the floor. I am thinking just straight forward steel with coloured conduits. I reckon too much colour on the base might detract from the miniatures. Once these are done I will carry on with the Predator.

Pete had asked me about the maps so here we have the Galaxy one…

Apologies for the poor photo. The light just kept getting in the way. I will attempt to take a better one at another time. There is also a bonus map, I had never turned this one over 🙄

A nice Corporation facility- I wonder what happens here!

On a different note, I visited my mate over the weekend, he is on the mend, but words don’t come easy, which is an absolute bugger for a writer.

To help him out Triple Ace Games have just released Necropolis into a bundle of Holding.

Now although I am somewhat biased, this is one of my favourite settings. It uses Savage Worlds as its base rule system. Wiggy used to write for Pinnacle before setting up TAG.

You take on the role of a warrior in the 2300’s on a holy crusade for the Church against the undead (Rephaim) on the planet Salus far from Earth.

In reality it is a military sci fi setting, with the ‘good guys’ as members of four sacred orders for a futuristic ‘Catholic-esque’ Church. The following were some of my Rephaim foot soldiers.

Doubt I will get much done Monday night as I have to give my Head Teacher’s report at the Parent Council Meeting. It won’t finish until nine. So a late night tomorrow.
