Tonight I finished off the Ogre commander and set to work on another minion…
I really like the miniature, apart from he seems to have a small left hand. He is evidently one tough cookie as he has less armour than everyone else. Sticking a point stick into him will probably just piss him off.
As you can see the second one has blackened armour. The arms and legs on his harness are going to be gun metal. More to make each if the six stand out than any other reason.
Hopefully the remaining two will be finished this weekend.
Today was a day out of school, I had to redo my First aid training… luckily Bob, the CPR dummy survived the ordeal… Because of covid we had to bandage ourselves as well as put ourselves into the recovery position.
This evening my plan was to paint a couple of things. One in Contrast and One in Speedpaints. I managed to get the Contrast mini nearly done…
Please note although I mentioned Italian Wars in the title, I still haven’t found any literary mention of ogre Doppelsoldners, nor any visual evidence either. He is therefore unlikely to have taken part.
He took a lot longer than I expected, but I am quite pleased with how he looks so far.
He is one of six I printed last year…
I will do one in Speedpaints tomorrow evening, well that is the plan anyway.
Funnily enough after saying it was weird that nobody had mentioned the reactivation of the Speedpaints, I am beginning to notice it appearing more. Part of me wonders that these are the People who bought their own?
Tonight I finished off the two units of skirmish shot…theystill need the bases painted but,I will do them all together when I get the rest of the units finished…
As I had the sand and basing glue out I went for the basecoated ones too…
I eventually bit the bullet and gotmyself some Army Painter Speedpaints on pre order… they are actually their way so whe they come I will let you know what I think.
This evening I got some painting done whilst listening to a presentation on the Luftwaffe over Shetland.
I dry brushed the bone on him and repainted the bits where I overbrushed…
I am a lot happier with the bone, but I still have a bit of a dislike for him. Not the model itself, just my painting of him. I really should have used a different colour for the cord holding the armoured plates together. I shall keep on faffing about with him and see where he gets to.
I got a bit more done on the right hand officer as well, but I called it a day after getting the gold done.
My meeting was cancelled this evening as only three of us turned up. I am so glad I didn’t stay in work though.
On the up side, I managed to get a bit of painting done…
Here are the trio of Kelenken in their sort of finished state. I decided to camouflage the chick so it is a bit tricky to see, as it should be. To be honest the chick is my favourite. I think it is because it is so cute.
I also made a start on the Alternative Armies Officers. Thirty seconds after painting the blue one I remembered that I was going to paint him and his troops with a red coat! He may get a clothing change!
Hopefully I will get some 6mm done tomorrow and also carry on with these two.
It’s been a busy old day, so busy in fact I did around 12000 steps… average is normally 7k. I rodded the septic tank, flattened the track to the house at the worst bits and also repaired the door to the greenhouse. Not to forget mucking out the horse this morning.
In my busy schedule I did manage to get some painting done. I intended to do some on the terror birds as well as some in the Spanish officers. I gave up in the humans as I couldn’t decide on what uniform to make them. I therefore cracked on with the birds…
They all still have some work to do on them, especially the little fella, but progress has definitely been made.
These painted up really easily… I am rather pleased with how they came out. I am not sure how much I will get done tomorrow as I have a school parent meeting. It starts at 19.00 and can go on for a couple of hours.
If anyone knows of any good sites to find Napoleonic Spanish Uniforms I would be most grateful if you could let me know.
We had a couple of power cuts this evening, well the wind was rising over the afternoon and by time we brought the horse in it was pushing 65 mph. It threw me about and also sent a half ton horse shooting sideways by a couple of metres. Although as a community we are pretty set up for wind, there have still been some issues, we had a door give way. Luckily a couple of screws kept it shut. We also have a fence that has a wooden post that has snapped.
I wouldn’t fancy being on the ferry to the mainland this evening. We really thought that they would be off, but nope they are going late… the one coming North is taking 17 plus hours instead of the usual 12!
The power did come on at about 20.30 so I managed to get some painting done.
I did another skirmish unit for the Italian wars… it won’t win any prizes but it is done. Funnily enough these seemed a lot easier than the last set of three bases. I honestly think it was mental state rather than difficult miniatures. The 15mm monster hunter miniatures probably cleaned the palate for want of a better term. I want these finished and out of the way. I think the destruction of two Pike blocks put a downer on the whole project. I also brushed on an undercoat for my two ‘Spanish’ Officers as well making a start on the terror birds…
As you can see from the above photo, I have another set of three skirmishers ready to go. I made a start on the two Rohan characters a while ago and to be honest I really can’t be bothered with them. They are lovely miniatures, but I think that right now I need something that I can just slap some paint on. The Keleken will be ideal for that.
This evening I set about getting some more work done on my Small Italian wars miniatures…
I finished the ones at the back and made a good start on the Tercio shot. Hopefully these will get some more done on them tomorrow.
We had beef stew and dumplings for our evening meal today. My middle child is gluten intolerant so we made her a separate portion in the only thing we had that could go in the oven…
We are going to open a trendy restaurant and serve meals in Pyrex jugs…I reckon there is a market for it.
