I am absolutely knackered tonight so decided not to try and paint anything. I have rescued a print off the printer and also sliced a few more. Now interestingly this print had four bases on it and only one came off perfectly (more of that later). So this miniature is the wight prince…
Not that you can really see him in the green resin… you will have to trust me, but it is a really nice miniature.
As I said above I printed him and his base plus three more bases. I managed to sort of get a Second one off the plate, but it was pretty badly warped and then there are the other two. One was completely non existent and the second one was a lump on the bottom of the vat.
So tonight I sliced half a dozen bases and when the bottom layer was curing only four showed up on the screen, then weirdly on the second layer the other two suddenly appeared. I have another 15 minutes or so to go before they are finished so it will be interesting to see what they are like. The only thing I can think of is that the missing two weren’t actually touching the ‘build plate’ in the software.
Yey.. they worked
Luckily they came out okay, I did pull the plug on them as it was actually going to be another hour to make the wall a few mm higher…. and quite frankly I wanted to go to bed. It didn’t happen until just now as my daughter needed help with her maths homework!
I am now in the process of printing Gandalf, Frodo and Samwise (and a cat) overnight. I will show them off tomorrow.
So the printer is still working, so much so that I actually managed to do another miniature. I got the first of the nine done, unfortunately he lost a hand and rein in the printing process. Luckily a 15th Century Perry mini hand fitted just fine. I will get a Greenstuff rein added when everything has solidified.
As you can see from the above I also managed to get some paint on the bard miniature… he happens to be called Tom and lives near the old forest and has a water nymph as his wife. I still have a bit more to do on him, but he is definitely getting there.
Unfortunately yesterday when I was chopping back some bushes I got a bit of a smack in the eye. It stung like a bugger and then went away. This morning I could open the eye very easily and the pain was a bit painful to say the least. To cut a long story short then I decided I needed to rest it. Sadly my pirate patch mountain has disappeared so my wife came up with a cunning idea… wear my glasses but cover the sore eye lens… now I didn’t want to freak out my kids so I drew an eye on the tape….
Anyway lots of eye baths in salt water later this popped out…
Over the course of the day smaller bits have also come out, it is still stinging, but nowhere near to what it was this morning
The down side of having one eye covered is that depth perception is reduced… sadly stupidity cannot be blamed on it… guess what happened with the printed bases today?
So after sleeping until pretty much late afternoon I managed to drag myself out of bed and before heading back there I decided to try and get a bit done on the wights… I succeeded in getting some paint on them.
Not a lot to be honest, but a bit of progress is still progress.
Now one thing on these that is puzzling me is that there are radiating layer lines on the bases and on the miniatures themselves, I am not sure why. It will be a setting in the slicer, but as yet I am not sure what or why.
The printer is still Kerfucktenbuggerd as they say (or not say) in Germany. I have got onto Anycubic to see if they have any answers. Hopefully they will come back with one soon.
I managed to get a couple of sets of roads printed as well.
The roads are the six at the front, I still need more, but it’s a start.
So we have 33 tiles in the coffee colour and about 60 I think in the pink. Quite a little world so far.
I got the wights off the resin printer this evening after 15 hours 49 minutes. This was a bloody age, so this evening I checked the software and for some reason I had set the layers as 0.01mm at 8 seconds a layer… what a pillock!
To be honest you cannot really see what they are…
They are lovely miniatures and will be a lot more visible when I get them sprayed tomorrow. These are pre supported and they just come right off.
The miniatures had four minutes cleaning in the ISO and then had a good old blast with the UV light.
Tomorrow I am going to print the bases for the dogs etc as well as print a hobbit with his giant pumpkin.
I did another couple of river tiles on the FDM this evening.
Tonight I got the flock on but my quick drying basing Glue wasn’t so the tufts will have to wait until tomorrow…
This is a nice colourful army. I now just have to find someone to fight it, an order to Irregular might be in order with some Burmese making an entrance. Not for a while though as I still have a fair old bit to paint.
I was on a bit of a roll tonight and found some of my 28mm in the box so got some duds painted on the duds… I wonder where the word duds meaning clothes comes from.
These miniatures aren’t brilliant in terms of the printing, but because I am a stingy bugger then they will get used come what may 😂.
So from left to right we have a villager with a sack, a sailor, a lamplighter, a rat catcher and a lady with a barrel. I will carry on with them tomorrow.
The advantage of working from home meant that I could press print more than once on the Ender 3.

I am going to print a fair few more of these as well as some roads. Still not sure what I am going to do with them😉. Doing small runs is a good way to get things going in the right direction. My first ones were one of each tile so I got some that I probably won’t use. Choosing specific tiles makes it easier to get a map that I want.
I also set about printing some resin miniatures, you will have to wait until tomorrow to see them as the print time was 14 plus hours, so they are going to finish sometime around 02.30.

So if you remember yesterday’s post, where I waxed lyrical about how I was going to (and I quote)…
“My plan therefore is to try and keep to one thing at a time. As I am not doing a One Ring for a while my Patreon models will keep as will my Neolithic hunter models (that haven’t been printed yet). So here goes. I will endeavour to get all of my samurai 6mm terrain painted and sorted ready for some games. I have a 6mm army so then I can use them in that.
After that get The Khmer army painted and based so that the Samurai have someone historical to fight. After this get the 15mm Samurai miniatures and terrain finished, then move back to get the 6mm Baccus army painted. This way I am not getting bogged down on one project, but I need stuff done. A few people have been doing a tray at a time. I really think that I am going to need to do that to keep me focused. Wish me luck!”
So how am I doing so far? Well have a guess!
Knackers here totally forgot that he was supplying the Arachnids for the Starship Troopers game tomorrow. So instead of painting fences or teeny tiny Samurai, I have been building giant bugs, what makes it worse is that I am building the things that will cause my character’s demise. How crap is that!
So far I have five warriors here, plus two more in the shed, these are the first two hopper bugs out of the six I have. I also have a Tanker and a Plasma bug and half a dose Firefries. We are going to die! For tomorrow these are going to have to be bare plastic, I will try and get them painted over the weekend. I still have another ten warriors to make in this box, I honestly doubt I will need the two boxes still in plastic.
Funnily enough I nearly sold these off a few months ago as I never thought that I would ever get around to using them.. silly me!
Today however I was shared some images of some Lego Bugs, , Troopers and a troop dropship… might just have a peek at them…no painting required! 😉
Tonight my son decreed that he was going to start painting again, to which I said not a problem…I hadn’t realised he meant right then. So I had a mad mooch for something that was undercoated and he chose the court wizard. My middle one decided on one of the milk maids and I cracked on with the ones I started ages ago.
You could really tell that I hadn’t used the Contrast paints for a good while as the tops had well and truly got sealed shut. Nevertheless we cracked on.
Being the cunning devil that he is, he informed me that he liked developing a back story for his models and his wizard had been dabbling in the dark arts and had developed a blackened face because of this. Nothing at all to do with painting flesh on when the black hadn’t dried.
I managed to get some more finished and got the lady painted too…
Sod all detail on them, but they will do. I will try and get some more sprayed tomorrow and then get them painted. I actually enjoyed doing these, i think it was a sense of accomplishment, I have dotted around so much of late that nothing has got finished, I also rather like the bright colours on the posh ones.
I had a major panic at work today. I actually thought I had lost my new child. Thirty seconds of searching and then I asked her sister if she had gone home early. Yes, she replied, because it’s Thursday (one of her finish early days). I had got it into my head that it was Wednesday… this didn’t wear off as I was gaming on Thursday… I bet you can see where this is going! At least I got some figures done instead 😂

My friend, Maggie, likes purple hence the dress colour. Yellow and purple do go quite nicely together. I found this out ages ago when I painted up my vampire for Witchlands.

Tomorrow I will print up some bases (or find some GW ones) and base these up.
The other day I decided to treat my players to their own miniatures of their characters. I got these of Hero Forge. I actually had great fun playing with the software, but in the end I came up with the four characters. Two hobbits, a Mirkwood Elf and a ranger.
I bought the STL’s as I can print in both resin and filament (still cost over $7.00 each. But it was a present so I was willing to spurge in my mate’s and my eldest.
So I posted a picture of them yesterday in their raw state…
Sadly one of the hobbits failed to print properly, but the rest came out okay (ish). I reprinted them all today as the ranger had lost half of his shield and the elf lost their scabbard. Unfortunately on today’s print the ranger lost a different bit of their shield as did the hobbit, the elf still lost the scabbard, but luckily the other hobbit printed (even if she does seem to have very thin arms.
I decided to give the original ones a lick of paint tonight and here we are…
So left to right we have Tauriel, an elf of the woodland realm. Arador a ranger of the north and finally Hoban Underhill a hobbit of the Shire.
The poses were funky and as I said I enjoyed playing with all the different poses and equipment. I spent a couple of hours at least on the four of them. This is where it gets a bit interesting. There are some poses and equipment that do not work at all together. I decided to make a Samurai and Ninja. I felt the urge to make a diorama… I blame Dave and Pete for that! The Ninja was in a three point landing and the samurai was rushing forward with a spear. Whatever weapon I tried to put on the belt of the Samurai actually went through the armour. It would go on the right side of the body fine, but not the left. I then decided to do some experimenting with different figures and found similar things. The elf above has her hair in a bun, simply because if it was long it would go through her back quiver.
The other thing I found was that the resin actually has ridges on it as if it were done on a filament printer. They are faint, but they are there. At the distance you would normally see them on the table they are invisible, but they are definitely there. Now this is different resin, but the civilians I did a while back do not have these ridges. It makes me think that it could be the actual miniature itself. I have seen pictures of the Hero Forge stuff that people have bought as a miniature having them too.
Will I be rushing out to get any more, probably not. This was a one off experiment. I might fork out $16.00 for the two Japanese minis I built, but before I do I might see if I can find something from the various mini manufacturers out there.. to be honest it would probably be cheaper.
Talking of cheaper, the Up and coming Patreon that I said I was likely to follow, is more like definite now, but interestingly enough he shared a Link to a MyMiniFactory page, where I could make a ranger… okay I cannot have him doing back flips or other things like I could on Hero Forge, but it is really a nice miniature and I could have some weapon options etc. Plus they come with a full sized base, not a really thin one like the ones I just did.Price $4.00 just over half the price of the one above…
