Huey Take 2

So I went for the tree supports and I have good news and bad news

So the good news… removal on the whole was easy peasy.

The rotor is still on the supports.

As you can see from the above photo the support on the floor will need a bit of work with a blade. So positives aside, this thing is going to take a long time with sandpaper to get ready for paint…

The above is what the bottom looks like. No doubt I could orientate the model to lessen this effect, but the worry is that it would be more noticeable in the easy to see areas.

I going to be honest I am printing on an old machine (an original ender3) the only upgrade was a metal extruder. I think I got this Christmas 2017 so it has done a fair bit of work. Further to this I generally still print on draft quality. Speeds up the process. I could go to town and print on super fine quality. Fat dragon games has some really good settings but it would take at least twice as long to print. One day I may give it a go.

I think I will start the M113 this evening. Because I am a twit, and there was space on the build plate then I am doing a PBR minus the crew and rear weapons.

Huey, Kilgore and now a PBR… definitely a smell of ‘Apocalypse Now’ going down.

Huey Printing…Take Two

So if yo remember, last night I showed the Huey after fighting withe supports. Eric very kindly reminded me about tree supports l. I could never find them before. He was correct that I needed to get into the settings to enable them.

So we have tree supports left and standard on the right. We shall see in another eight hours whether things are better.

Coming back from the shed I noticed a bit of colour in the sky…

Huey… Good for a Crash

So I got the Huey of the printer and my heart sank… the supports weighed more than the model, never a good sign.

The rotor is meant to be fastened to the drive rod thingy. It snapped off removing the supports. I wish I had made the closed door variant. This was the internal support.

Note the damage to the body. I put it in hot water like I would with the resin… bad idea.

The internal supports filled the whole cabin… bloody nightmare. It took 20 minutes to remove the internal supports.

So I think I need to redo this again and check the supports. Sadly Cura doesn’t show them. I may even hollow it out and do it on the resin one.

Door gunner in situ.

So as you can see he is a bit on the big side or the Huey is a bit on the small side.

I will have a play and see what I can come up with.

Oww, Argghh and Ouch

Well this, whatever it is is back . I am hobbling around the house like an octogenarian with bad feet.

Needless to say this hasn’t exactly made me enamoured to the thought of painting anything. I have sliced the Huey and am printing it on the FDM printer to save pennies. If it is naff then I will do it on the resin one. This is where we are up to so far…

Nearly 8 hours in

The above is showing a lot of supports, the Huey front end is starting to form.

On thé up side, dinner this evening was followed by cake!

Tear Down the Dotted Line

Last night Carnage took place in Shetland. We got our first game of ‘Death Roads: All Stars)

Tom’s yellow car flipping out in flames as I cruise to Victory

The game uses cards to allow actions as well as having driver actions. Each time you get to do two. Eg you can change gear and lanes or something like change lanes and shoot. Each of these uses up handling anywhere from one to four points (well in my cards).

When everyone reaches zero on their handling then the round is over. You can drop below zero, then bad things happen. Skids, veering, fire or being stunned all can happen at once. Just before I exploded in a fireball I had two stun, two fire and a skid to deal with.

It was a fun game… but on the way back Joe and I were discussing it. We both had a feeling we were doing something wrong. We are going to have another game tonight to try and iron out the wrinkles

We Got Something

Well if you remember I was commenting on the fact that we had written to a load of companies to ask if they would be willing to support us. Of the nine letters sent, one, with sadness, said they couldn’t help. Which is absolutely fine, I am just pleased they replied.

However, the big news is… I wrote to Games Workshop and lo and behold they replied within the day. To cut a long story short they are sending me a school starter pack.

So a big shout out to them. The caveat is that it is their way to hook kids in. I recognise that and accept it. But at least they are supporting us.

Attempt at Tiger Stripes

So this evening I got my finger out and started painting. I pushed on with the Recon dude and female civilian…

Now I really needed to add in the light squiggles but I don’t think my eyes or brush control are up to it. Now one day, I may push on and give it a go but not today. You can see what it looks like below.

Woohoo Painting

Yes I managed to get some painting done this evening. I slapped paint on this lot.

I bet you can’t guess what paint colour spurted out of the bottle.

I will hopefully get some more done tomorrow.

Tonight I Was Going to Paint These…

Please note the ‘was’ there. Everything is either aching or hurting so painting was cancelled. I was looking forward to having a go at painting tiger striped uniforms. Last time I tried that was in the late 90’s.

The civilian and VC were there as a ‘now you have finished the hard bit’ interlude.

Hopefully tomorrow will be a better day.

Run Through the Jungle

Today I printed off a few more miniatures from the Nam range. US Forces on the left VC troops on the right.

I decided to see what they would look like and will get them sprayed tomorrow ready for some painting.

The dude sitting at the back is a door gunner for one of the Huey’s. I am going to do the main vehicles on the FDM machine with the fiddly bits done on the resin machine.

I will let you know how I get on.
