You survive the first 10,000 feet and then the only thing that is likely to survive a fall like that is in fact a corpse.

As it happens the lady in question pulled the ripcord at 1000 feet so technically she fell 9000 feet without using a parachute!

Now to be honest, it does happen…Nicholas Stephen Alkemade was a  tail gunner in a burning Lancaster who decided to jump without a parachute rather than burning. Fell about 18000 feet and lived to tell the tale. He died in 1987.
