Wet Palette

I have eventually got around to making a prototype wet palette, well prototype for me. As can be seen from a number of my photographs I have used a white tile or six, before that I used an old cd and before that probably paint straight out of the pot.

I am impressed, I painted the black over an hour and a half ago and the green about an hour ago. They are still useable. There are loads of YouTube vids all about making your own… so Ibit the bullet and did. A clean fish cake container, some paper towel and some grease proof paper and voila… a wet pallet.

You can see from the pic above where I have mixed colours, the brown was last night for the jäger. It was pretty much drying as fast as I was getting it on the figures.

I may make a shallower/wider to give me a bit more space. Having a quick look at prices, the bought ones range from just under £3 to £40 with extra for the paper. Mine cost pence…

I will see how I get on with it as is 👍

Christmas Jägerhund

Well it is Christmas Day for another 10 minutes.

To be honest it has been a good one, if a bit wierd without the in laws here for lunch. My kids have had a super day. I was very fortunate to receive a whole host of Flintloque for my presents.

I received a re-animator for my undead, a field hospital for the Ferach, some Ostarian Jäger from my good lady, then some dismounted Ferach Guard cavalry, Elven ladies, dwarf civilians and Towern Marske for my Trollkin.

I also received a book on Bree (for my One Ring roleplaying campaign) from my friends. I would put a photo up, but I cannot be bothered to go and get it.

Lots of goodies…

I have relaxed my paint what I got first as these were presents. So I randomly chose a packet from the box and the Jägerhund came out first.

they are nice sculpts, with the minimum amount of flash… basically I could only find any on the cartridge box, there might b3 some more but it is lost in the clothing.

I was originally going to paint them green, but decided instead to go for the grey with green trimmed uniforms. Although I like painting them how I want, I do actually like the actual colours of their historical counterparts.

Hopefully I will get these finished tomorrow.

Well Christmas Day is over here for another day, I hope everyone has had a relaxed one. Here is to 2018.

Ostarian Colours

I decided that my dogs needed some colours too….

This was the test piece, the sharpies I was using were a little blunt. I will have to get myself some superfine ones.

I will have to purchase some standard bearers to add the colours to 🙂

The one thing I am beginning to wonder about is whether these are a little large for the figures. If needs be I can do what I did with the ghoul which was to glue a piece of plastic straw to increase the length (The original banner top had snapped off).

My artistic skills are ok, but I felt that I wouldn’t be able to do the eagle justice so instead I used some creative commons clip art for the designs as well as border art on Publisher.

Even More Colours

HELP ME!

I am really getting into doing these, made more flags and painted nothing over the last couple of days, I think it is because they are so easy to do.

They look better curled and flapping than on the piece of paper. Obviously all of my chaps are holding flags in at the very least a strong breeze.

On the next one I might try to get a drooping flag. I am not sure whether it is possible due to the nature of the paper.

Teatime Colours

Updated Regimental colours …

I had another go at the colours tonight. Much happier with the bat, however I have realised that the chain around its neck has blended into the background colour of the circle….

I may just get rid of it to avoid the problem  – I didn’t have a very fine sharpie – to be honest I would have probably got a better result with silver paint instead of the pen.

the size works well with the colour bearer. I realised today that he is missing the top of his pole ( unlucky chap) so I  have added a bit of straw and will add a skull to the top.

Still got a lot to do to this chappie, not to mention the other seven.

Once the flag is glued on properly and shaped I don’t think it will look too bad for a first attempt.

Lunchtime Ghouls

What colour is a ghoul???

I spent rather a long time thinking about this, ghouls are mortal and not technically undead. They inhabit crypts and graveyards and the like but aren’t zombies. I watched a whole load of YouTube videos and quite a lot of people are painting them in a necrotic flesh type colour, rather than in a colour of someone/thing that never gets out in the sunlight.

I, therefore, am experimenting with a grey undercoat for the skin tone with a flesh coloured wash. We shall see how that comes out.

I managed to get the green looking the colour I wanted, it took a while!

I basically made another base coat of Phtalocyanine emerald with some khaki, then built up from there.

Lunchtime Gunners III

A few teeny steps forwards.

Managed to get a little bit more done this lunchtime, all the black covered again, red cords base coloured, they need washing to darken them then highlighted back up again.

I tidied up a some of the pant splodges where they shouldn’t have been. They are almost there.

Then onto two units of ghouls one for me and one for my friend for Christmas.

Horde

I had left the gunners at work, because frankly, in hurricane force winds I envisaged the power going off. Strangely it didn’t. So I messed around with the plastic horde. I made a simple standard from the bits box and a rather tattered flag with some green stuff.

The standard was a simple one, based on a couple from the Narodnoe Opolcheniye or peasant militia.

These seemed to have religious figures on them. Obviously an undead militia wouldn’t have this, so I added a cloak to the crosspiece to act as the banner. I am still trying to work out what to paint on it.

The flag is so tattered that I will probably just go for a solid colour, I am thinking red.

Lunchtime Gunners II

Managed a little bit of painting time this lunchtime, needed to go and get something for my good lady wife who stood on an upturned nail, as well as getting some more horse food in.

I did manage to add a wash to the skin, mainly in the recesses, as well as adding a pinkish hue to the wounds, unfortunately it dried a whole lot lighter than it looked on the palette. I will tone it down a bit later on this evening.

I also added another darker wash onto the blanket rolls, I forgot the cloak and the head covering.

They are coming along, which is what it is all about.
