Speedy Ghouls

I found these earlier…

So I repainted them. I was intending to be in bed early tonight….that plan failed. The reason for painting them? I was going to sell them and they looked really naff in their chipped basecoat!

I decided to mess around with some blood effects I went for a more dried look, but I think it needs highlighting up a bit

They basically started out like this… evidently 15 years rolling around in a box did them no good. Not to mention…what flesh base colour was that? They look jaundiced, well I suppose a life of living in graveyards and not getting many green vegetables will take its toll.

Thinking back I vaguely remember actually gaming with these in my Vampire gang for Mordheim. Apart from the bases I kind of thought they were finished at the time.😱😱😱

This is where I think finding old figures is handy. Even though this was a speedy job to get them into a game it really does show how far I have come. There is no attempt at shading, highlighting or pretty much anything else apart from flesh, bone coloured bone, pink tongue, a grey loincloth and a black dot for the eyes. I did however paint the edge of their bases!

Now to be honest the mark 2 paint job is far from perfect and in a strange way was a speed job too. I might get another flesh glaze on them and see how that looks.

I think it is down to the if I could improve one thing – what would it be?

I painted them with these two brushes… One has a bend and the other doesn’t have a point

I have a whole host of new brushes never out of their packets, just too lazy to walk to the other end of the house to find them.

I really need to sort out a way to take better photos….

Bedtime Undead Finished

Well almost….. As one lot is finished another lot is started.

I got these based up tonight, Although the Witch-lands are a frozen Hell; my lot have been sent south to attack the borderlands. Therefore no ice and snow….

As the lot above are finished, I decided that I had better make a start on another ten. These are better armed than those above with the majority having firearms.

The big thing is an old Ral Partha figure that has become either a statue or Golem.

Bedtime Undead Militia

Nearly there…

Nearly there with the militia.

I am a bit miffed that I forgot to check for mould lines on the older figures (aka the ones I built about 15 years ago). I decided to paint the hat and belt on the Liche a lot brighter than the dark ones on the other ones. It does seem to work so far. Still to wash and highlight as well as finish the red standard.

As an aside I managed to update my Ostarian flags. Both regimental and colonel’s.

Bedtime Militia

These are taking forever…

they have a lot of open wounds etc that take a while to paint in. Same with the eyes 👀.

So far I have units of 8 with a Liche, and two standard bearers, the one with the red flag is based on Napoleonic Russian Militia who carried a religious standard rather than a regimental one.

As these are  undead forces, an image of the Virgin Mary seemed a little inappropriate. I was going to come up with something myself then I came across a GW warrior of Chaos cloak which seemed to work. The second is a ragged flag or standard made out of Greenstuff which I rolled very thin then basically ripped/poked holes in it and wrapped it around the flagpole.

As a total aside I have redone the Ostarian flags and luckily my new Ultra fine Sharpies have arrived

This should make it a bit easier to add colours to the various designs.

Ladies at the Ball

I managed to get the ladies almost finished.

Reminds me of Cinderella…. two in posh frocks and one in ragged clothes.

The iridescent colours look good on the models but don’t seem to work on the photograph.

I also managed to finish off my Jäger

Jägerhund

Nearly there with the Jäger.

Basically only the hat plate and ironwork to do plus the base.

I also based up some of the figures the kids got me for Christmas. I am doing the Ferach ladies next. These are now undercoated white to get some more vibrant colours. I might even give the iridescent colours a go on the ballgown.

Wet Palette

I have eventually got around to making a prototype wet palette, well prototype for me. As can be seen from a number of my photographs I have used a white tile or six, before that I used an old cd and before that probably paint straight out of the pot.

I am impressed, I painted the black over an hour and a half ago and the green about an hour ago. They are still useable. There are loads of YouTube vids all about making your own… so Ibit the bullet and did. A clean fish cake container, some paper towel and some grease proof paper and voila… a wet pallet.

You can see from the pic above where I have mixed colours, the brown was last night for the jäger. It was pretty much drying as fast as I was getting it on the figures.

I may make a shallower/wider to give me a bit more space. Having a quick look at prices, the bought ones range from just under £3 to £40 with extra for the paper. Mine cost pence…

I will see how I get on with it as is 👍

Christmas Jägerhund

Well it is Christmas Day for another 10 minutes.

To be honest it has been a good one, if a bit wierd without the in laws here for lunch. My kids have had a super day. I was very fortunate to receive a whole host of Flintloque for my presents.

I received a re-animator for my undead, a field hospital for the Ferach, some Ostarian Jäger from my good lady, then some dismounted Ferach Guard cavalry, Elven ladies, dwarf civilians and Towern Marske for my Trollkin.

I also received a book on Bree (for my One Ring roleplaying campaign) from my friends. I would put a photo up, but I cannot be bothered to go and get it.

Lots of goodies…

I have relaxed my paint what I got first as these were presents. So I randomly chose a packet from the box and the Jägerhund came out first.

they are nice sculpts, with the minimum amount of flash… basically I could only find any on the cartridge box, there might b3 some more but it is lost in the clothing.

I was originally going to paint them green, but decided instead to go for the grey with green trimmed uniforms. Although I like painting them how I want, I do actually like the actual colours of their historical counterparts.

Hopefully I will get these finished tomorrow.

Well Christmas Day is over here for another day, I hope everyone has had a relaxed one. Here is to 2018.

Ostarian Colours

I decided that my dogs needed some colours too….

This was the test piece, the sharpies I was using were a little blunt. I will have to get myself some superfine ones.

I will have to purchase some standard bearers to add the colours to 🙂

The one thing I am beginning to wonder about is whether these are a little large for the figures. If needs be I can do what I did with the ghoul which was to glue a piece of plastic straw to increase the length (The original banner top had snapped off).

My artistic skills are ok, but I felt that I wouldn’t be able to do the eagle justice so instead I used some creative commons clip art for the designs as well as border art on Publisher.
