The Reanimators

I enjoyed painting this trio of minis.

Doktorov and his two Dwarven assistants. I still need to do the reflector on the middle dwarf (once again I notice I missed something when I put the photo up). Lovely figures to paint. Very simple too compared to some of the military types.

I made a start on the various casualties.

The stretcher is part of the field hospital set. I am basically just blocking in colours to begin with.

Then onto this lot…

I managed to get a bit of paint onto the werewolf of the Visthowla as well as a base coat on my bear. I also got a start on one of the officers from the Latrinislav command set.

I haven’t got a clue what happened to the other two from the set.

Hopefully I can crack on tomorrow and get the reanimation device finished along with the various casualties.

Canine Pioneers/Sappers

I got these pretty much finished tonight.

Well when I say finished….

I want a better highlight on the green uniform, the collar and cuffs and the boots (I totally forgot the boots).

I am really happy with how they came out. I did a bit of humming and hawing about uniform colours tried to find something useful online about Austrian uniform colours. They pretty much seemed to be white with various exceptions – (in fact they wore blue or Pike grey coats…I found out after painting them).Therefore I went green with yellow. I did toy with the idea of a brown coat, but with them being dogs I felt everything might blend in.

It was I added the above that I realised that I had forgotten the rolled greatcoat on the one carrying the barrel. Monster brown was the first paint that came out of the box so he has a brown greatcoat.

Interestingly enough I had a swine of a job getting the yellow to cover the green. I suddenly remembered something in GW’s how to paint miniatures. Basically make a pastel shade to go over a dark one… I gave it a try and it worked fine.

I am quite pleased with my painting progress over the weekend.

Since Friday night I have painted everything I undercoated on Thursday.

I think I will move onto the reanimator and crew next. Then that way I have painted everything I got for Christmas.

After that who knows🤔🤔🤔.

Madame Pompaboom

I decided to have a little bit of painting time today to finish of Madame.

Another great little set fromAlternative Armies. I got her primarily as I am trying to get lots of civilian figures; but she can be used in both Flintloque and Slaughterloo.

Madame is of an ancient family line and is the last of the same. She travels Valon with her trusted manservant. Here we see her dressed in her finery. Her hair is so high it requires the manservant to follow her around holding it up with his hair pole.

It really is true what they say… The camera does indeed show everything. I have just noticed the belt buckle on the manservant has bled onto the black belt (which I have obviously forgotten to highlight too).

Tonight I will crack on with the surgical sets tables etc and make a start on the engineers.

I redid the belt and added the various highlights.

Alternative Armies Purchases and a bit of painting

AA had a free postage deal on so I took advantage of it 😁

I wanted some of the Savant Zombies. I ordered the six from the ‘Escape from the Dark Tzar’ set. They are really nice figures in resin. I still can’t get my head around how light they are compared to the usual white metal figures.

From the same set I ordered the ogre captain to act as my officer for my Finkelstein ogre section.

He is another nice figure. So much lighter than the rest of the ogres I ordered.

We have a forager a sapper and two line ogres. These will be combined with the two I already have (see below) to make a section of six plus an officer.

I managed a bit of painting this evening making a good start on Madame Pompaboom.

She still has a long way to go – her hairstyle alone will probably take an hour to finish.

I started late as I was sorting out my craft shed which I finished today. All of my toys are going out there to make room in the house.

I hope to get both her and her manservant finished tomorrow night.

Ferach Field Hospital

I am just about finished the full set.

A bit of a tidy up and some darkening around the eyes especially on the two on the left. Really only just the stretcher and equipment table to sort out…

I have added a couple of plastic pieces too – a table for the surgery and a chest to hold all the tools.

I really like this set. There are three of them that can be used as civilians. The surgeon on the right would make a good barman.

Not sure where I will go next. Perhaps Lady Pompaboom.

I received my new figures today. I have been very resolute and they are still sealed in their box. I will open it tomorrow and get some photographs taken.

Medics, Engineers and a Very Posh Lady

I managed to get a pile of figures undercoated this evening.

First up is the medical team. Two surgeons a stretcher bearer team and an auxiliary.

This set also contains a gentleman surgeon as seen last week and a rather nice ex soldier with a wooden leg (not to mention a wounded elf on a stretcher).

Next up is a group of canine engineers.

This is another nice set. The first would make a rather nice assassin with a bomb and pistol. The second is carrying a plank, the third a barrel, while the last is obviously digging up his bone. He, like me, has a concentrating tongue – it sticks out when we are concentrating.

Madame Pompaboom is next.

This rather hatchet faced lady and manservant is a rather fun set. With her ladyship’s hair being so high it requires him to hold it up. She almost conceals a bomb in her towering hairstyle. Her head and hair are a separate casting. I couldn’t work out where her face had gone. Being the pillock that I am, I was trying to put it on upside down. I thought the fuse on the bomb went into the hole on her neck 😱😱😱.

I am thinking white and gold for the dress…

I did manage to finish one of them.

I really like this figure. He comes with the field hospital. However, I think I will use him as an ex soldier.

All in all another eclectic mix of very nice figures.

Undead Artillery

The undead are ahead in the arms race!

I eventually finished these. They are lovely figures. Really easy to paint. I do like the guy with the powder bag. It looks like the ball is in there with the powder. I have some extra zombies (6 of them) that need painting. I may paint these up in the same uniform to act as armed support.

The gun carriage is from Alternative Armies whilst the barrel is a GW empire one. I decided to make a light gun however I felt that it was a bit small for what I wanted.

Hence the plastic barrel (I never got round to ordering a AA one – it didn’t help that I kept forgetting that I had the gun and the crew.

I really must get hold of the Grapeshotte schilling pack as this beast will rule the battlefield and I need something to be able to shoot back.

I have a couple of scenarios that this can be used for.

I also quite fancy a hunt the gun scenario as in the 1957 film the Pride and the Passion. The undead have to get their gun to help attack a town’s walls. Ok the gun in the film was massive.

It does have Sophia Loren in it. I haven’t seen it in years… time to find it on eBay 🤣

Guard Bodyguard

I eventually got the L’espirit du Gard finished. I know I go on a bit about favourite figures, but this lot have to be one of my favourite units in the Flintloque range.

I have a mounted unit of these too, I will eventually get around to painting them.

One thing I am pleased about is that I am managing to get a bit of painting done each night. As I have said before. The painting helps me chill out and the blog kind of keeps me motivated to get more painting done.

Tomorrow I am going to get the undead gunners finished. Having had a quick look at them I need to paint the ramrod and put a wash on a beard. I think I might manage to get a few more figures started too. I will also have to get the gun done as well.

Having had a look in the boxes, I must get the re-animator and the Ferach hospital set done too.

So many figures so little time. 😱😱😱

Lady Boniface part III

I really didn’t like her dress…

The yellow was a bit yucky to be honest. I did consider a total repaint but instead I kept at it. I sort of did repaint the dress but in yellow.

There is still a bit of work to do on it but it is a definite improvement on the first attempt.

Sadly the IPad seems to struggle with a bright yellow….Perhaps I should have gone with my original idea of a nice blue colour.

Lady Boniface Part II

Her ladyship loses face.

As the gallant doctor rushed to support her ladyship he very quickly realised that to her ladyship losing face had a whole new meaning.

I do like her ladyship the figure is really good with her either removing or putting back her face.

I need to get a glaze on the smooth out the contrast of the flesh tones.

I am not too sure about the yellow dress. Because it is an ancient yellow wash it has gone a bit shiny. Because it is a wash it has caused me problems where it meets the purple wash. I think a repaint may be in order.

I managed to get a bit more done on these two:

Still a fair bit to go, but I am getting there.

Finally another lady…

Madame Pompaboom and her manservant.

I bought this duo as I thought it was a fun little set. The manservant is employed to hold up Madame’s hair… complete with a bomb in the top.

I would have liked to have got more done, but it has been a busy day. We were tiling the floor under the cooker until about half eight this evening. I hope to crack on tomorrow evening but rumour has it we will be redecorating the kitchen!
