Zombie Dogs Further Work

I cracked on with these tonight…

The peach collars and cuffs was originally meant to be a base coat for a bright orange, which when mixed with white came out this colour. The thing is, it has grown on me, so much so I painted the lolling tongues a darker colour to distinguish them from the peach.

Really just the weapons and some highlights and they will be done, well apart from the bases and the varnishing.

I might splash out and get these chaps a standard bearer. But then again the mountain of lead I have to paint may mean it takes a while.

I have decided that I am going to try, really try to avoid anything else that requires painting. This is for a couple of reasons… first being cost. I am wanting to buy some new re-enactment kit, every penny counts when kit is involved.

Second is a more pragmatic reason. I have so much unpainted stuff sitting around, that I actually don’t have the time to paint it all. Everything from 10mm up to the 28’s. Not to mention from ancient through to sci fi.

I reckon I could paint a 28mm figure a day and I wouldn’t be finished by Christmas.

Zombie Dogs

I made a start on the dogs…

A blue uniform will make a change from the vast majority in Russian green.

These chaps have a blue tunic, white breeches black shako (not that any are wearing them) shoes, equipment and straps.

There will be a fair bit of bone on show too. The one at the back has basically a skull for a head.

An Othari Aristocrat and some Zombie dogs

Been a couple of days since I painted anything

as I converted an old stable into a greenhouse.

I did manage to get the Aristo finished. A great little figure. He would make a very good Scarlet Pimpernel. A bit effete in his mannerisms. I do like his hanky to the fore stance.

Next up Is going to be a unit from Zoltan’s 666th regiment. A unit of dogs that marched into the Witchlands ahead of the Ferach advance. They disappeared without a trace, only to turn up later as an undead horde.

There are 8 troopers and an officer/sergeant of sorts. From what I remember the troops only came in three different poses. I grabbed five random troopers in my last purchase from Alternative Armies.

I am not sure what colours I am going to go for. A bit of research into the Witchlands book is required.

Othari Aristocrat

I got home a bit earlier than expected.

So I blasted a base coat on my otter dude as well as a bit of highlighting

Still a fair bit to go on him, but it’s a start.

Hobgoblin Miser

I did a speedy paint job tonight.

This hobgoblin miser was sitting there undercoated. I fancied painting something and half an hour later he is pretty much finished. Not my best painting ever, but another figure down in the lead pile.

I doubt I will get my aristo finished tomorrow night as I am off doing internet safety in one of the schools.

I have still to decide on the colours to use.

Ogres Finished

I am calling these done:

The bases need sorting and the figures varnishing.

I managed to procure a pile of dogs for a really good price online.

The cavalry came with both lances and swords. As there are seven of them I will go for a unit of six. Five armed with lances and an officer with a sword. The seventh will become an aide de camp for the doggy forces.

These were really well packed. The painted ones wrapped in bubble wrap and then placed in the packing material.

The unpainted ones were wrapped in paper and again set within the packing chips.

Not a bad haul for £19.50. Top eBay seller.

The painting on these is fine, the question is whether or not to paint up my gun crew with the same uniform colours…

Evening Ogres

Managed to do a teeny bit on these…

Wash added, strapping painted. Highlights added to the shako and trousers and that’s about it for this evening.

I didn’t get in until gone 8 so by time I had tea, talked to my family that was all I had time for.

To be honest I really like these figures, one day I may even have a game with the stuff I have painted😱.

Bedtime Ogres

Sadly didn’t get them finished.

Managed to get this far though…

Weapons and straps still to paint, shading and highlights on flesh and headgear and then the tidying up of the bit I missed or indeed missed.

I think they are coming together as a unit.

Carrots and the Odd Ogre or Two

Yesterday I painted up a couple of carrot piles.

I also managed to get these taken from here:

To here:

Still a fair way to go, but hopefully I can get them finished tonight. I wouldn’t have normally painted the epaulettes on the greatcoat red, but I wanted him to match in more with the rest.

These are really nice figures, there is only this advancing pose in this range. But it works well. Four are armed with hand cannons and the other two with double muskets. They have a mixture of packs and pouches. All have a water skin apart from the one with the axe attached to his pack

Two have pom-poms on their shako. Whilst one is in his bonnet de police.

I think they make rather a nice unit. Very hard hitting in game terms.

Ogre Officer

I have worked on this chap for the last few days.

He has come a long way from the bare resin.

He is a lovely figure. Full of character. He is armed with a hand cannon and trust telescope. He is made from resin so super lightweight. I spent a lot longer on this one than I have with a lot of the other ones.

However there are still the odd problems that the camera sees and I don’t 🤪🤪🤪

He is to be an officer for my unit of ogres. I think I will make a start on them next.

I have also snagged a bargain on EBay a unit of 7 Ostarian cavalry and a gun and crew. The gun is painted whereas the cavalry are not.
