Two short planks… well I felt like that earlier. I couldn’t manage to make my curs in Blender nice answer smooth.
This kind of was spoiling the effect on the wood grain and then it dawned on me… instead of increasing the resolution of the piece I kept on decreasing it!
It works on a numerical value… I found 0.0123 to be a nice resolution number. Funnily enough it was finer than 0.0321…funny that!
So here is this evening’s plank!
I evidently didn’t check the size when I was setting it up. This one is about 12mm long!
Tonight I was knackered and decided to try and get a plank made…I achieved one…sort of.
I just need to get the depth and shape of the larger indentations right. I out a couple of cuts across the face of the plank. This us about 10mm wide and 40mm tall.
Tonight my good lady was on a conference call so I couldn’t get onto Blender to make hinges for my rounded door.
My problem with Blender is that I cannot seem to build things and save them separately and use the bits to build other things. Now to be fair I could use other things like Meshmixer and 3D paint so maybe I should stop moaning!
With my hiatus I did get on and do some painting. The red panda you have seen before. I have worked on the dregs and rabbit this evening.

Well as you know, or don’t, I have been having a play around with Blender. First the texture rollers, then the signs… now we have doors…
The scale is out somewhat, but I reckon you can see what it is meant to be. After a good old while of head scratching and swearing I have eventually worked out how to add a curve to the top of a door should I need one.
After typing the above I have added a hoop handle like the above and will need to add some hinges next.
After a lot of swearing yesterday I pulled the signs off the printer and I am super pleased with the results. The one on the meft shows the back of the single sided one. The hidden side looks like the right hand one.
I am now going for a single sided door… and the swearing is back…
So two of my kids are throwing up here, more looked like they were going to at work and here is me stuck in the middle. I do feel a bit on the rough side though.
So I took it easy tonight and messed around making rollers. I also started sorting out some map tiles for our next ‘One Ring’ game…
Well if you remember, yesterday I printed out a roller or four. Today I downloaded another four. As I was doing so I noticed the guy had a YouTube channel so I went for a mooch. This channel had a link to a tutorial and down the rabbit hole I went.
My first attempt was a bit FUBAR as I only had a couple of textures in Blender. This set me off drawing my own … which in time turned into this…
I still haven’t tried it out yet. I had problems getting the inside smooth, so went into 3D Builder and inserted a cylinder then deleted it leaving the void a lot smoother.
A Lot of faff. But I am dead chuffed that I actually produced something that I took from an idea to something I can use.
I have a crazy paving version one in the works too. I am going to restart it as I got into a bit of a problematic loop.
I eventually got the third roller printed. This evening I did a test to try them out.
I got a 40×40 base for each roller and then mixed up some Greenstuff and smeared it on.
Two look spot on, the third and last one printed didn’t work as well. There is a bit of a texture but nothing to shout about. The Greenstuff stuck to the roller too. This was probably due to the texture being less pronounced.
I haven’t given up on it, I may need to leave the Greenstuff a bit longer. Either that or make the layer a bit thicker. If it doesn’t work it cost pennies to print out.
Well tonight I decided to print the remaining roller… can anyone spot the error.
Knackers here forgot to write down what he had printed so guessed what was left and guessed wrong. I only hope I pressed the right one this time… I will find out in three hours, or rather tomorrow.
I also printed off some more bits and pieces for the Geek club…
I am going to do one of the rabbits for my Mandarin teacher at school… well it is the year of the rabbit.

I also spent a good while finding my futuristic forces from various locations. I am going to have a go at Grimdark Future at the club on Thursday so I am sorting out Army lists.
Yes I managed to sneak up on the charity shop (thrift store) without it noticing and managed to find super things within! My theory is that if I decide to go in specially then there is nothing I want. If I go on the spur of the moment then I get stuff.

I was going to print off some ‘Word’ calendars for the One Ring and found these… how cool!
I was going to purchase some pots to put the flock in and found a whole pile at 50p each. I got thirteen for £5 so even cheaper as I took the whole lot. The ones I was looking at were £4 for two!

I also printed a pile more goblins as well as a textured roller.
The above roller is for cobblestones it says but they look a bit big. I would say they are more flagstones. I will try it on something tomorrow. I actually downloaded three in early December and totally forgot about them until today. Useful things to use up the end of a toll of filament.
I actually painted some stuff too…
I tried some of my rust paint on the armoured miniatures. Not sure why but it didn’t work, or at least not yet, so there may have to be a repaint.
