The Best Laid Plans…Do You Want To Know More?

Some famous Scottish blokey wrote thus…

The best laid schemes o’ mice an’ men
Gang aft a-gley,

So if you remember yesterday’s post, where I waxed lyrical about how I was going to (and I quote)…

“My plan therefore is to try and keep to one thing at a time. As I am not doing a One Ring for a while my Patreon models will keep as will my Neolithic hunter models (that haven’t been printed yet). So here goes. I will endeavour to get all of my samurai 6mm terrain painted and sorted ready for some games. I have a 6mm army so then I can use them in that.

After that get The Khmer army painted and based so that the Samurai have someone historical to fight. After this get the 15mm Samurai miniatures and terrain finished, then move back to get the 6mm Baccus army painted. This way I am not getting bogged down on one project, but I need stuff done. A few people have been doing a tray at a time. I really think that I am going to need to do that to keep me focused. Wish me luck!”

So how am I doing so far? Well have a guess!

Knackers here totally forgot that he was supplying the Arachnids for the Starship Troopers game tomorrow. So instead of painting fences or teeny tiny Samurai, I have been building giant bugs, what makes it worse is that I am building the things that will cause my character’s demise. How crap is that!

So far I have five warriors here, plus two more in the shed, these are the first two hopper bugs out of the six I have. I also have a Tanker and a Plasma bug and half a dose Firefries. We are going to die! For tomorrow these are going to have to be bare plastic, I will try and get them painted over the weekend. I still have another ten warriors to make in this box, I honestly doubt I will need the two boxes still in plastic.

Funnily enough I nearly sold these off a few months ago as I never thought that I would ever get around to using them.. silly me!

Today however I was shared some images of some Lego Bugs, , Troopers and a troop dropship… might just have a peek at them…no painting required! 😉

Aliens… Further Progress

Well, not the Aliens, but the prisoners got some more paint onto them this evening.

I am getting there with these, but to be honest I am not sure what colour to do the floor. I am thinking just straight forward steel with coloured conduits. I reckon too much colour on the base might detract from the miniatures. Once these are done I will carry on with the Predator.

Pete had asked me about the maps so here we have the Galaxy one…

Apologies for the poor photo. The light just kept getting in the way. I will attempt to take a better one at another time. There is also a bonus map, I had never turned this one over 🙄

A nice Corporation facility- I wonder what happens here!

On a different note, I visited my mate over the weekend, he is on the mend, but words don’t come easy, which is an absolute bugger for a writer.

To help him out Triple Ace Games have just released Necropolis into a bundle of Holding.

Now although I am somewhat biased, this is one of my favourite settings. It uses Savage Worlds as its base rule system. Wiggy used to write for Pinnacle before setting up TAG.

You take on the role of a warrior in the 2300’s on a holy crusade for the Church against the undead (Rephaim) on the planet Salus far from Earth.

In reality it is a military sci fi setting, with the ‘good guys’ as members of four sacred orders for a futuristic ‘Catholic-esque’ Church. The following were some of my Rephaim foot soldiers.

Doubt I will get much done Monday night as I have to give my Head Teacher’s report at the Parent Council Meeting. It won’t finish until nine. So a late night tomorrow.

Night Off…

Tonight I was being Dad’s Taxi, so by time I got home, washed the dishes etc. I couldn’t really be bothered, plus I had a parcel in the post.

I totally forgot I pre ordered this 😂

It has s a lovely book with good atmospheric illustrations…

It came with a host of extras too…

the map itself is huge.

So after watching one hit wonders from 1968 to 2005 on YouTube I read the rules..

Sad thing is a lot of the one hit wonders I really liked!

Tomorrow I will get back to painting something 👍

No Painting Tonight

Well, as expected, I managed to paint nothing tonight.

I have been building a lean to greenhouse for my mother in law, then came back and turned straight around to get my daughter to her party. I just got back in and quite frankly can’t be arsed to paint anything.

As I was waiting I did some work on my RPG I will be running tomorrow.

Yes we are back off to middle earth. I put a Facebook post up on the club asking if anyone was interested… eight people put their names forward so I am likely going to be running two sessions to fit everyone in. Some people may not like the system whilst others do so I will have to see how many stay the course of the campaign.

The following photo was taken in a cafe, so it is a little washed out.

Tomorrow will be a one off to get people going (some people can’t make it this week) so we will begin proper next weekend.

Gaming, Not Painting

No painting tonight but we did get a bit of gaming in. The characters are attached to a trade caravan and are attempting to find the murderer of a ranger.

Here we have the caravan. All but the horses and a single figure are printed.

The attack of the wolves caused a bit of consternation with an elf fighting alongside a dwarf before it became fashionable in Middle Earth.

Okay the dwarf had gone into a beserk rage and had charged the nearest wolves, he happened to see them before he saw the elf. Luckily the dice was on the side of the elf as the dwarf charged off rather than turning his attention to Tauriel.

But will they catch the killer before they get to Bree, that is the question.

The Eye of Sauron is Watching You

Funniest night I have had running an RPG tonight.

The party of four having braved the Midgewater marshes, managed to successfully locate the lost barrow. After that it all went rapidly down hill. ”Twas a simple task!” Climb down a rope have a mooch about, see what all the fuss is about. Climb back out….Problems…. in the ‘One Ring’ RPG an eye of Sauron on the D12 is a bad omen. Firstly it gives one zero points for that dice and secondly it increases the knowledge of the whereabouts of the party to Sauron who will direct his power to thwart them. This can be a warband of orcs or the ‘world’ turns against them. Think Cahadras in the Lord of the Rings. The Threshold in the area they were in was eighteen…They started the session with six. Less than an hour later they were up to fourteen.

The big problem was, firstly they had to climb down a rope into the barrow. The graceful elf of Mirkwood went first. She threw her four dice (3D6 and her D12) she needed a mere 12 due to her athleticism… the eye of Sauron and a grand total of four points. Down she fell… winding herself in the process. the hobbit Hoban rushed to her aid, got another eye and fell in too… luckily he landed on something soft … the elf. The ranger managed to get in without any problems at all.

Hoban then fell through a weakened floor to a flooded lower level, nearly drowned but was fortunate enough to be rescued by the party and also managed to accidentally grab some treasure on the way out.

If you thought getting in was bad, getting out was worse. Never have I seen so many failed roles, every failure involved an eye.

A cursed rope was blamed…it was a nice normal rope to begin with but it must have somehow become tainted as they couldn’t get out of the barrow. After eventually escaping they met some baddies, beat them, rescued a major NPC and threw a lot more eyes…. the weather turned against them and the normal rule of needing was overruled meaning an 18 was required. So wet, bleeding and footsore they struggled back to Bree.

All in all a hoot of a night.

Wood Elf

My daughter has joined our gaming group and is playing a wood elf character in our One Ring campaign. Being a kind father that I am I purchased a miniature for her and am now painting it.

Still a very long way to go, but I am getting there slowly.

We did have a lot of fun on Hero Forge making up characters but at $10 for the download and $20 for a physical version we went for the cheaper option of £3.25 for a reaper bones mini.

No Painting Tonight☹️

Sat on a boat midway between Shetland and Orkney…

Well okay if truth be known I am nearer Orkney, having left Shetland five and a half hours ago, with twenty minutes to go before getting into harbour. I eventually arrive in Aberdeen at 07.00 tomorrow.

In one of my earlier blog posts I rambled on about never being able to find the stuff I want. Luckily my eagle eyed mate spotted a Starship Troopers game, complete with maps and stand up card figures….

Huzzah!

I haven’t a clue what the rules are like, but I want it for its parts. Success! Plus you can’t really complain when you get it for £15 posted.

And as a coincidence…tonight’s onboard entertainment.

So once my mate has finished running his Star Trek RPG we will be joining SICON as the mobile infantry to protect the United Citizens’ Federation.

The campaigns of Pluto await!

I managed to amass all of the available DVD’s relating to Starship Troopers including the original Roughnecks series. Which I liked more than I thought I would.

I am considering getting the graphic novels, but with the DVD collection mentioned above, I reckon I have a fair bit of source material, after I finish with all of the missions and campaigns in the various books.

Tomorrow, I have about one hour to charge around Aberdeen after my meetings before heading back home on the boat again. It seemed like a really good idea at the time to go by boat. Twenty four hours travelling for six hours of meetings. It takes one hour by plane!

Anyway what follows is a a picture of kirkwall in the dark!
