Evening Gunners

Well I managed a bit more this evening.

The flesh is pretty much done, however I might put another light wash on to add some more shadows, they are there but just a bit to subtle to see. Wounds need to be repainted; I am not sure what colour to do these possibly a pale pink just to add a contrast to the pallid skin tone.

Still a bit to do but  I reckon in a couple of hours they will be finished.

I also had a mess around with some bits from the plastic zombies and some grab adhesive, something is trying to emerge.

Lunchtime Gunners

Well in between yesterday lunchtime and today’s I managed to get a little bit done. I think they will come alive  when their faces get done (can the undead come alive?).

Still a whole load to do. It didn’t help that I was ill for a few days and then DIYing for some more. I really missed the painting. It is funny how I went for ages not managing to get started on anything and then it comes back in a rush.

To be honest I think YouTube helped. Not painting figures, but actually making terrain. it kind of kindled an artistic interest in me again.  so much so that when the new shed is completed I am going to have an 8 x 4 bit just for me 🙂 with enough room for a light box, proper lighting, my small bench saw  and all sorts of shelves and other such exciting things.

I just have to get back in there and carry on with the DIYing and get a new floor put down.

Gun Crew

Well after what seems like an age I actually picked up a paintbrush again.

I decided a while ago to do things in order, so the undead gunners were next on the list.

Gunners

This is another lovely set. I particularly like the officer in this set. One thing you don’t see many times is someone holding a powder bag. I suppose it is because in wargaming terms 3 crew seem to be a standard size per gun. Therefore you get a rammer, officer and possible someone with a ball or something similar.

I struggled to find a reference picture for Russian artillerymen in stockings so mine will be a cream colour  standard green tunic with red facings .

I have a real backlog of unpainted stuff that I need to get through before I get to my new stuff. Luckily Christmas is coming up so the stuff that I bought recently will be given to me as presents from the kids (It gives me time to get other stuff painted first).

These are probably savant zombies as they need to be able to aim a ruddy great big cannon.  I will think of a suitable flesh tone for the recently undead.

An Experiment

I was hunting for some paint last night and came across a couple of boxes of GW’s Zombie Hordes. I had a look at the sprues and then at some of my Flintloque stuff. I was surprised to see they were a similar size. I was wanting a set of lowest quality troops. I think I have just found some. What is better is that they are pretty much free as I bought the original boxes about 15 years ago.

I suppose the downside is that they are all armed with hand weapons, which to be honest is probably appropriate for the lowest of the low.

Voltigeurs and a Ruddy Great Big Werewolf (Visthowla Legion)

I managed to get a base coat done on the Ferach and Green stuffed the werewolf’s joints. I would have got more done but I was back up on the byre roof with a roofing caulk. I managed about 45 metres before both the caulk and the strength in my hands ran out. The pain in the bum is that I still have another 15 metres to do. The weather was pretty kind to me and only dropped hail on me about three times. The wind however blew everything of the roof.

Another batch finished.

I managed to get a bit done today. I really need a better camera and/or better lighting as they look a whole lot better than the photo shows☹️.

I have decided to make a start (aka carry on with) some Ferach voltigeurs. These guys have sat for about a year with just their base coat of black.

Undead Line – All finished

These seem to have taken forever but I got there in the end. I have real problems photographing anything I finish. I did actually paint the faces of the Zombie line and there seems to be a blob on the vampire’s face. Just the basing and varnish to go.

Undead Line III

These are getting there really slowly.

next stage is to get the strapping whitened back up and get the shako accouterments sorted then onto the muskets and metalwork. I am still undecided what colour to do the button and plume.

The vampire and Liche need a fair bit of work too so I think I will be busy tonight. I want them finished by tomorrow

Undead further work

Slowly getting there. The white on the white really looks naff. I am at the point of painting where the figures look like nothing at all. They look messy, which to be fair they are.  I will run a wash over the strapping and then highlight with a pure white. Also give the beards a dark wash to lose the big blob of white.

Hopefully I will get them finished tomorrow.

Undead Line Infantry

I managed to get a little bit done at lunchtime today, I will have to crack on to try and get these finished tonight.

Cuffs, collars and epaulettes are going to be red just to help match them into the rest already done. These are the only ones with a greatcoat on so it will help give some form of continuity across the different units.
