Pumpkins and Leaves

Temperature has plummeted and the snow and wind have arrived with a vengeance. It is supposed to drop to -10°C overnight so we are in the will there, won’t there be school in the morning. Problem is three of us live on one side of the hills and the school is on the other. This causes problems with trying to second guess the weather over there.

Anyway I decided to do something that could be finished with my portable light if needs be.

I still need to work on it, I did shove some of the leaves down. I still need to get some tufts down and repaint the edge.

This is how the leaves came out…

I am quite pleased with how these came out.

Making Leaves

Tonight was the first of the fire festivals, so I iwas off gallivanting for a bit. I decided to do something useful when I came back. As I had found my leaf punch yesterday I decided on leaves!

I basically used a brown paper envelope  and threw loads of dipping inks on it in random patterns.

The other side has more yellow and orange and less green.

I tried the punch out when the paint dried and if I say so myself  they look rather good. Yeah I know I am meant to use real leaves, but it has been raining a lot, it was pitch black and the wind was up.

I will show examples tomorrow.

Start of the Pumpkin Patch

Or two in this case!

Yes I know Halloween was a good while ago, but I needed a nice simple project this evening!

In hindsight I wish I had done the pumpkins over three bases instead of two… but I didn’t! Once the basing gunk dries then I will see how effectively it has stuck to the base and stuck the pumpkins into it. Again I probably should have glued these to the base and then gunked around them.

Ahhh well, time will tell!

I will be adding patches of grass in places with some tufts and some maple leaves… sadly I don’t have any pumpkin leaves 🙂

Hopefully I will carry on tomorrow and let you know how I get on.

School Diorama

Well we got the diorama finished and I got it delivered after school today. Here it is in all its glory.

The only bits of it I actually did on it were minor. Firstly I covered the whole base in watered down PVA after the kids left and second was using the rattle cans to spray things black and to seal the flock onto the trees.

Building Some Ruins

That’s a bit of an oxymoron, but this evening I decided to put together this small corner ruin from Dark Ops. I have had this for an absolute age… so long in fact that they have stopped doing this range. So long in fact my Google-Fu failed to find anything about it. I wanted to see how to build it as it came with no instructions.

I worked it out eventually. I spent more time actually adding an upper floor to the smaller bit, or rather adding extensions to it. I also made a simple pillar with an upper floor.

I will try and get it painted before the game on Thursday.

Whilst sorting out in the shed I found a couple of computer games info/rules that I used to play a lot…

From what I remember the 101st one was a nightmare to win. Of the two Hidden and Dangerous was my favourite. I played it loads. From what I remember it also had a second one that I also had.

Sadly the days of books in games has gone.

A Bridge Too Far

Or in this case a bridge to nowhere.

I am still in my making 2mm terrain… I have been carrying on fiddling with 3D builder and as you can see I got the bridge built. This is made up of modules. It allows me the option to build a bridge of any length, either in the software and printed or print the parts and glue them together.

Now you may have noticed something on the bridge… I decided having a go at an ox cart. This time I built the living parts too rather than pinching someone else’s and converting them.

They are a bit on the small side to see properly but I am really pleased with them.

Re Vera Romanorum

Or possibly rem parvam Romani…well these are what various translation apps told me…

So these really small Romans have built some really small buildings to go with their siege engines… first up a small border fort…

This was a failed print so it is embedded into the modelling compound. I had basically Cocked up the supports and orientation of the print. You can see the error on the right hand towers… the crenellations are missing.

Today I worked on the interior buildings.

I went for a commandants house and Principia (HQ) granaries, the hospital and barracks with the Centurion’s house on the end.

Left to right… barracks, Commandants house, Granary, HQ. Bottom left the tents and hospital in the middle

I also went for the tented version of the legionary tents and the HQ too.

Because I am a twit, I forgot to add a base to the tents 🙂

Some of these would work for villas too.

I took a quick shot of some of the buildings inside the fort

One of the larger buildings has got a bit of a gap on a corner. I don’t know whether it is a delamination or a gap in the original file. By gap I mean less than half a millimetre.

A Mobile Shrine

So my mate took his birthday present home with him in the car so I reckon we can class it as a mobile Shrine.

So instead of a pristine shrine, I wanted to go for one that is more run down, hence the faded colours on the building. I also got to work with my home made tufts…

All in all I am quite pleased with how this came out. Next stage trying to repeat it in a scale suitable for 6mm, as well as 15mm too. One day I may even do it in 28mm!

A Small Shrine

It was my mates birthday a couple of weeks ago and as I am seeing him tomorrow I thought I had better getbmy finger out and make him something,

I made him a small Japanese shrine for his 15mm Sengoku Monster Hunter games.

Basically he can put in either the ancient tree trunk or the building. I will add some tufts etc tomorrow.

These pieces come from the newish shrine set.

Something New

This morning as I was bringing the shopping in I slipped on the mud and sat down abruptly. As I was laden down with bags I couldn’t break my fall so bits of me have spent today reminding me that they existed.

Anyway enough of my whining. As I was on light duties I managed to make something else in Blender.

These nearly drove me demented. One is single sided and the other is double. At the minute I am trying to work out how to add a raised image… it is not going well!

If you hear a fell voice on the wind it is only me throwing a tantrum… again!
