Painting Again…

Zoggin Heck another day with paint on a brush….I must be Ill or something !

This chappy is done in Speedpaints 2.0. On this one I tried the metallic Speedpaint. It went on so nicely and sort of dried flat. However I put a wash over the metallic bits on the first knight and have actually ended up with a similar effect. I was going to dry brush them with silver anyway so no problem there.

So let’s see if I can manage three days in a row… (probably won’t pick up a brush for a month).

To be honest, I reckon the only reason I did anything today was because of Geek Club in school.

More Painting

Bloody Hell. I have actually managed to do some painting this evening….

I really, really, really cannot be bothered to paint at the minute so this took a lot of effort. A lot of it was belts and bridles so it took a good old bit of concentration. I really need to get back into this and stop making any excuse I can think of to avoid it.

I think that Duc de Renoir will look okay once he is finished.

I had better get back into researching heraldry as I have a feeling that there may be a fair bit in the future.

Of course I will have to do me…

I have me in 10mm and 15mm… really got to do the 28mm version sometime. Interestingly the maroon and black used above are almost an identical colour match to my soft kit.

So hopefully I will get my arse into gear and keep painting…

A Bit of a Knight Mare

This evening I came up with a bit of a cunning plan to test out the XPRESS paint and Speedpaints. So as you may have seen in an earlier post I printed a knight. I now have two,..I am going to paint one in one range and another in the second range. This will give me a bit of an idea as to how they compare on larger miniatures…

So this is a start with the Xpress paint. The blue was thinned with four drops of the Vallejo Medium.

The second one will be a reverse of the above. I still have my original GW Brettonian water slide transfers.

I still have to work out how to do the quarters on the knight.

The tabard on the body is easy, these ones have the long bits covering the legs.

Painting Teeny Tiny Dudes

So this evening I got booted off the computer. I was busy making a camel to go with the 2mm miniatures. I also have worked on a legionary century. The auxiliaries I did did kind of work. But they need to be increased to at least 110% to match what I already have.

So I went for the Barbarian forces. With some additional buildings and siege engines.

I have done a flesh base colour for the infantry and a dark brown base for the cavalry. Once fully dried I will dry brush the riders white to allow the flesh colour to be put over the top.

The other thing is my Mug came back yesterday…

I have also been a bit busy on the other blog… every time we have been out I have done a little vlog blog… this is one of the latest ones:

Comparing paints

Last night I grabbed the only miniatures I had handy that were undercoated and were surplus to requirements…

I chose four colours and tried to match them as close as possible across the three ranges

I painted a strip of miniatures in each range. To make my life easier I did it in purchase order. So from left to right we have Contrast, Speedpaints and finally Xpress. These were all done neat. I will do thinned tests at a later date.

The results were quite similar for each range. I honestly thought there would be a huge difference based on the head colours.

I think using 6mm miniatures didn’t help either… time to find something else methinks.

Painting Heads

Last night I got kicked off the computer so I decided to get the ork heads painted with the Vallejo Xpress paints.

Once again these are very saturated colours. They seemed thinner than the Speedpaint 2.0. But as it was a while ago I need to do a side by side test. I will do a couple of colours from Contrast, Xpress and Speedpaint and paint the same thing with each one.

I also used some of these colours on various miniatures I had knocking about.

Dinosaur Mug and More Heads

Today we had a family outing to ‘Aa Fired Up’ in Lerwick. This is a decorate your own pots and a plethora of other unbaked ceramics. We all chose a mug and after much humming and hawing I decided on a Dino themed one…. Here it is in all its glory… well raw glaze state.

The dinosaurs are stickers which were removed after taking this photo. I will see if I chose suitable colours in a couple of weeks. Gemma who owns the business is such a lovely person and I am glad her business is still going strong. We actually were her first ever booking for our eldest’s birthday when she first opened.

This evening I stuck heads on Vallejo bottles. These are as bright as the Army Painter Speedpaints. Once the Greenstuff has cured I will do the individual colours like last time.

Once again I reckon these will need the use of medium to thin them down to the Contrast consistency.

Today I started messing around building a fortification in 3D Builder. At the minute these are in separate bits. They are also a whole lot bigger because I forgot to add in my 2mm stunt auxiliary for scale. Poor sod keeps getting giant cubes metaphorically dropped on his head in the software. On the other hand he may be entrapped in a big green cube!

Colourful Heads

Sooo I eventually got round to getting my paint toppers painted with the AP Speedpaints. They are definitely a lot different to contrast. They seem a lot thicker and although great colours aren’t really doing the highlight and shade the way Contrast does. This is not a criticism, I just need to work out how they work. I reckon there will be some thinning down with medium in my future….

When she came through my wife asked me why I was painting bottoms… I was looking at the front, she was looking at the back…

I now see what she means…

She thought they were grotesques mooning…

Out of interest the pure white one back left is the bottle of medium.

Woah… I actually Did Something

As the title says, I actually got my arse into gear and managed to paint something… not a huge amount, but I did manage. It was really hard to get motivated. I mean I actually had to force myself to sit down… it was a definite case of Captain Procrastination this evening.

I have added a Greenstuff saddle to the bear to give the rider a bit of packing under his backside.

I also finished the ram rider, he is now ready for basing.

I got a couple of packages today, one was a paddle board and the other was my long awaited Vallejo Xpress paints… sadly I had a bit of an issue…

Luckily it was just one of the bottles of red.

This came today and I asked for Speedpaints 2.0 for my birthday on Friday so look out for a wave of painting taking place…well I hope there will be.

A bit of Painting

It was the last day of term today and the last Geek club for a while. I managed to get some painting done.,,

The one on the left is the latest one. I do like this range. which is why I went for another red panda.
