Messing Around with Extruded Polystyrene

Was having a chat with my family last night and in the midst of these chats I doodled (is that the correct word for something 3D) this.

I have since added a small annex. I might add some more.

To be honest it was quite therapeutic. The thick black line is to ensure the bits go together properly. Really not sure what I am going to do with it…. make it a ruined broch, a small hut, or even a planticrub:

in case you were wondering.😏😏😏

Print Catalogues

Weird rambling post. I was on Facebook last night discussing uniform colours (Like you do). It got round to which figures were which and what range they were. It kind of struck me how much I miss an actual printed, hard copy catalogue. This online stuff is great, but you can’t flick back and forth, discuss something online whilst looking at a picture in your hand as it were.

Somebody needed to know what I was talking about so the photo above was uploaded. Okay it isn’t colour and it costs to produce, not to mention this catalogue is over 10 years old πŸ˜‚. But I don’t know I keep going back to it, even though the ranges I am looking at have expanded massively. I suppose I still like hard copy.

Here they are in all of their coloured online glory πŸ‘

How to Post Things

A follow up from my how NOT to post things post.

The seller was actually very good – offered both an apology and some cash back. As I had been in two minds whether to get these or not I decided to use my cash back in figures.

I really do reckon these will have made it in one piece.

I therefore am believing that my original package was an anomaly and not the usual way of things.

A Ferry Run

A nice evening to be going on a ferry.

Just my luck to be on this ferry….

Humpbacks round Unst

Orca off Yell

Porpoises off Guilberwick

I did see a heron though…I put the Tablet down after taking the above photo and it flew straight across the car.

Lunchtime Voltigeurs (again)

I got a dark wash on the flesh. Next stage highlights. After that equipment, weapons and metalwork.

I remember reading in Kevin Dallimore’s book where he said paint the faces early on as it makes them come alive sooner.

It is weird but true. A bit of flesh colour and they look totally different.

MDF Drakkar

I had a bash at this last night. It was easy enough to work out as I couldn’t get the instruction video on YouTube to run.

I really couldn’t get the dragon’s head and associated planking to fit at all so only the head went on.

It looks okay though. A really nice kit and really cheap at Β£14.99 in the background can be seen a set of shields and oars. The mast is supported by thread which travel to 4 little fixing points built into the top section of hull.

All in all I am extremely impressed by this model. I got it here: https://www.darkops.co.uk/

Hopefully I will get it finished tonight.

Lunchtime Voltigeurs

I really wanted to crack on with these today, however I just about had time to eat my lunch let alone paint anything.

Flesh base coat done. I will have to get the highlights done tonight.

Ways NOT to post things.

I purchased a set of figures from a well known auction site. The seller delivered it quite promptly. It rattled a bit when I picked it up. But I thought it might be okay when I opened the box.

Sadly, I was mistaken.😑

<<<<<<<<<<
gures in a plastic bag? If I send figures each is individually wrapped in bubble wrap and then packed in bubble wrap inside a box. If they had been plastic, it might have been ok. However even my plastic ones are individually wrapped up.

A fair few have come off their bases, all are chipped to heck and quite a number have bent weapons etc.

Now ok I got 21 undercoated figures for Β£20 with free postage…. I would happily have paid postage costs if it meant they didn't arrive twisted together. However the same company sells painted figures, I hope they don't sell those the same way.

As it stands I am going to have to rebase them all as well as redcoat them.

All together not a happy chappy.

Update:

Partial refund and apologies given.

Really quick to reply to my email.
