Well my original plan this evening was to simply paint a couple of horses… I did get a bit carried away…

I ended up pretty much completing the two of them. Here they are surrounded by a pile of foot who had to be snipped from their GW bases. I thought the metal ones might just pop off when a blade was twisted between the two…Nope!

Basically the bases bent and buckled. In the end I gave up and just snipped them off too.

The face on the left hand horse is going to need a repaint. For when I was painting the red bridle the dog jumped up and the face got the brunt of it. To be honest I think that it was the first time it has ever happened.

So, although I set out to do a little job, I managed something bigger.

Well, once again it was a night of more Celts… I have now run out of undercoated ones… tomorrow night is club night so I won’t likely get anything done painting wise…

So I did the remaining ones that I built and undercoated yesterday.

Well I actually built twelve miniatures yesterday. Two were from Wargames Atlantic (from what I remember) the other was one of the Warlord. But here are the nine painted tonight…

Guess who forgot to paint the bases!

So that is thirty seven painted so far. With the painted ones from years ago takes the count up to about fifty. I have got a painted metal chariot done too,   but that is still down in the shed… along with half a dozen unpainted mounted troops, and from what I remember two or three plastic chariots too. Enough to keep me going for a while.

Well today I managed to get my original Celts off their Gw bases, somehow I managed to keep all of my fingers. I did try really hard to remove at least one of them with a Stanley knife!

So after a few close calls I got this far…

I must have painted these at least fifteen years ago. Long before Contrast Paint. I vaguely remember being really pleased with these at the time.

The newly painted ones are still on theirs, hopefully I will get them off soon.

The metal ones should snap right off as they are on with superglue. I sadly used polystyrene cement for the others!

So I made another fourteen plastics and undercoated them. I also undercoated a pack of slingers. In the box were another three of the naked dudes charging with a spear so I painted another one. I will eventually get around to doing the other two and will add them as part of the wider warband rather than part of the fanatics unit.

So here the newly painted ones on their lollipop sticks waiting for their proper bases…

I went for more muted colours with these as the skirmishers were generally youngsters or people for whatever reason didn’t take part in the main battle line. So the one thing that really, really annoys me about the whole range – every bloody one of them has at least one gold torc, some of these have actually got two – one neck and one arm. I always thought El Dorado was a myth from the  Conquistadors, not the Romans!

As for bases, I have had to order a pile more from Warbases as I was totally running out of both bases and sabot bases too… Needless to say I went a bit mental by ordering a whole host of other goodies. On the up side I got free postage, on the downside free postage starts at £50!

So tomorrow I am going to try and get at least half of the undercoated plastics to the finished stage.

So this evening I managed to do the undercoated plastic Celts. I still have a bucket load to make and paint but it is a start 😁.

So here they are in all of their still wet glory …

I will see what I can get built and undercoated tomorrow (or even find built and undercoated).

I still need to decide what to do about these bases… they are on them, and do do some of the earlier painted ones, problem is- I don’t have any more. Personally I don’t like them. I just have to work out what to do. The metals were fastened on with superglue, these are stuck on with plastic cement.

Well if this doesn’t get a jump in views then I had better paint naked women 🤣😂🤣😂.

So as you might have guessed, the title is a bit tongue in cheek. I was at a bit of a loss as to what to paint, so as I was in the shed and I spied a pile of undercoated celts.

I went for the fanatics as they were the quickest to paint. These are all metal. I also found eleven plastic ones that were undercoated too. I have had these since about  2010. They were part of a batch which were going to be used in a campaign at the club that never actually got off the ground. As I bought Romans in the summer I thought I should maybe finish them off.

These are original Warlord Celt fanatics. Later they did the SPQR rules, but i can’t a remember what these were for. I got two packs of  them with a random selection of models. The one on the left of the photo is the only unique model out of the eight. I do remember being somewhat miffed about this.

I have two boxes of the plastics as well as some cavalry and chariots…. I know, I know… Early imperial Romans likely wouldn’t have met a chariot in Gaul, possibly in Britain as we were a bit backward.

These were the miniatures James painted last night. He is really chuffed with them as he should be…

As I am typing this I looked up at the shelf and noticed a pile of white patches on the celts… tomorrow I shall be touching up my naked men!
