Got off the boat at 07.00 and set off to have breakfast at Dundee. Sadly the cafe opened late. Was short staffed and had nothing gluten free fir my daughter. So we got lunch at a Tesco and headed on down to Edinburgh zoo which was heaving. We were the second last car to get into the car park.
Here is the only animal I took a photo of. Some kind of marmoset.
We left Edinburgh and headed down into Northumberland. I got into my Sister in Laws at 18.30. I am knackered now.
I am sat on the boat eating very expensive, okay, food… so technically as I am on the water I am now officially off island for the start of my holidays.
WiFi on the boat is cack so I am posting this now rather than trying to post later.
Tomorrow is Edinburgh zoo then down to the North East of England to stay at my Sister in Law for a couple of Nights thence down to Leeds for a couple of nights.
We are going to the Royal Armouries so if anyone wants any photos of anything let me know and I will give it a go.
I wish I had brought some paints and things to paint. I have brought some things to sort out some ideas for a Nam Skirmish campaign.
So this is my last evening at home for a while so I decided to crack on with the big boys/girls.
Still a bit to do, but it is less to do when I come back. Typically the washer decided to spring a leak today so it will probably be new washer time when I return… that and pay for the car repairs. April is going to be a bloody expensive month!
I am heading off on my holidays on Sunday nights boat. So I thought I would get some painting done. I went for the trolls as I wanted to try some random colour approaches.
Highland Miniatures Patreon dropped today and I spent no time printing out two of the three swamp trolls. I also printed off a frog rider. Another test of frog cavalry (with sticks) is printing as I type this.
I decided against the third swamp troll as it is throwing up the corrosive stomach contents. These will be for Dragon Rampant I don’t need set unit sizes. I really do like the ‘Creature from the Black Lagoon’ vibe with these. I really love the frog riders, you cannot see it, but this dude has a pan strapped to his head.
I didn’t have any suitably sized circular bases for the trolls, but did find some penny sabot bases which were a nice size. I used some filler to hide both the coins and gap. I deliberately left a depression to allow me to add some resin for water and because I am a pillock I left it under the right foot in both of them!
A bit miffed tonight as the car was making an odd sound so I popped down to the garage to get it booked in when I am away next week. He wanted a quick test run and banned me from driving it as the bearings on the offside front were shot. The extra good news is that the brakes need sorting and it seemed like the clutch is dodgy too. Hopefully some of this will come under the warranty!
I got the Frogherd finished this evening and made a good start on a second.
All of the ones I have painted have armoured footwear. Initially I thought this odd as they would sink into the mire… then it dawned on me that there might be things in a swamp that you wouldn’t want to step in with bare feet.
Tonight I started on the first of the frogherds. Yes my little frog army needs rounding up and pointing in the right direction. This is done by two simple means.? These being loud noises and pointy sticks. A combination of the two works well.
He still has a long way to go but he is getting there.
Well I had a bit of a lazy Sunday today, did the horse this morning and this evening and pretty much didn’t do much else. Okay I knacked my back which then buggered the rest of me. But…
Anyway, no painting this evening. I did download the next pile of Anthromorporhical Beasties from Goonmaster… The second lot is one of their throwback sets that I get every month too.
