HeroQuest

New Toys!

Well I eventually bit the bullet and decided to go for Heroquest. I had this game when it first came out and absolutely loved it. I even took it to Wales with me when I worked there as a summer job. It was so popular in the Hostel that I ended up making two new characters one was definitely a thief, I know for definite as I found rhe card I made. I think the other was a druid. I must admit this was a nostalgic journey, really helped by the cheap price I managed to get it for.

I haven’t really watched any YouTube discussions or unboxing videos so I was going in a bit blind and was honestly a little worried that it was going to be something similar to what GW did to Necromunda (I just hope they keep their mitts off Mordheim).

I shouldn’t have worried, apart from the miniatures it looks really, really similar.

The one major difference is in the furniture and doors is that they are all plastic rather than the card and plastic of the original.

The miniatures have some total differences. The Fimir have gone and are replaced by Abominations… basically fishmen.

There are four heroes and thirty one monster miniatures.

  • 8 orcs – there seem to be 4 male and 4 females.
  • 6 goblins
  • 3 abominations
  • 4 dread warriors
  • 1 Dread sorcerer
  • 1 gargoyle
  • 4 skeletons
  • 2 zombies
  • 2 mummies

I am really tempted to paint everything 🙂

The miniatures are made of a soft plastic, not like the original hard plastic of the original.

Hopefully the kids will enjoy it as much as I did.

Fiddling With Mizzy

I had a bit of a stressful afternoon/evening  as my 15 year old fitted. She suddenly went no verbal, passed out then had what could be best described as an Epileptic fit. So I got back in past nine. 5 hours in A&E with her and my wife having to stay in overnight.

I really couldn’t be bothered it, but added gold onto the bronzeas a highlight. Not that you can really tell. I also went blue on the lenses.

Mizzy’s Metallics

Well this evening I went for some metallic bronze to do all of Mizzy’s buckles. It was then that I remembered how bad the Army Painter first generation metallics were. I decided on these instead of the Speedpaints because it would save me undercoating them all white.

I also remembered her eyebrows this evening!

My next conundrum is what colour and how to do those lenses on her goggles.

I will need to so a bit of touching up as some of the paint has rubbed off. Perhaps on the next one I will use my one and only GW painting handle.

And more Mizzy

Well Mizzy is getting closer to being finished and spartan from the stress of ghe eyes then I have thoroughly enjoyed doing her. This to me is a bit of a shock as I was a ‘whole army painted in a week and sod the mistakes’ kind of Painter. She has actually forced me to slow down. Is she perfect and error free, heck no. This is definitely a case of the journey matching the destination. The main thing for me is I am happy with her.

Darkened hair…

I am trying to work out whether to do one more coat on the main bit of her hair or not. If I don’t then it is just the eyebrows, glass and metal to do.

I have downloaded two more of these from Miniatures of Madness. I have the pirate I showed and now there is also Agatha the Warlock to join the team.

So in total three of this range to paint. As the Druid is undercoated I may do her next.

Mizzy has Hair

I managed to get some time with Mizzy this evening and decided it was time for her hair.

I am going for a blue-black using Vallejo’s ‘Lotus Black’ Xpress.

I also did a bit on the eight Moria (Hobbit) goblins. These have been sat unfinished for about a year and a half. I still hate the Hobbit film and their updated Goblins, but these are actually going to be used for Silver Bayonet.

Stress Central

Well I worked some more on Mizzy this evening  and I can honestly say that it was the most stressful painting session ever!

As you can see, I achieved eyes. I now need to lie down in a darkened room. I was shaking like a sheep shitting razor blades!

I deliberately chose blue as her eyeliner. I originally was going to go for black. As her hair is going to be a dark colour then I wanted something brighter.

Stranded: Alien Dawn

Well I have just hit new year andxam on day one of year three.

Rita, remember her has progressed a bit more now…

Combat: 3  no change
Construction: 0  no change
Cooking: 6  now 7
Crafting: 4  now 5
Farming: 6  now 7
Healing: 2  no change
Intellect: 4  no change
Physical: 2  now 3

So she has improved a bit in what she is good at. She is becoming less useful on expeditions that require her to scavenge things. Her physical attributes mean she can’t collect stuff.  She is still useful on just exploring new places though as she has found a load of useful plants.

So I thought I would explain about some of the nasty things I have found nearby. So we have the Shrieker. So named because of the terrible noise it makes.  By all accounts it is a nasty insect that transforms its food into sharp spikes that grow on its tail. These spikes are the flung at its foes. Oh yeah it can bite and rend too! Sadly more and more nests are being spotted around my base. Once I get armour made then I am going to have to go Shrieker hunting!

An adult Shrieker

I decided to play the game on easy and chose peaceful, this means my base won’t get attacked. However the nests mean I can’t go gallivanting without the potential of meeting some of these. As an example there is a nice bit of wreckage in between two nests… too dangerous to try and salvage it.

Oh and Rita did well and tamed one of the feral dogs this yesr. In year two she also tamed a couple of Ulfen (the huge cows). These have since had a calf.

My base has grown again. I now have nine wind turbines, four solar panels and a diesel generator.

Mizzy Update

Well that is me technically done with my most amazing little school. Technically because I am still the principal there until August 12th. By amazing I mean the most awesome children, parents and staff. It was really hard to step out of the door for the last time.  The last six months have been a nightmare roller-coaster of emotions with today being a bloody nightmare. But you are not here to listen to me ranting.

I really couldn’t be arsed to do anything this evening, but forced myself and managed to get some more done on Mizzy.

There is definitely less white showing now. Really just the hair and device as the main bits and the metallics and corks.

One thing that struck me this evening was that I was worried that I was wasting paint. But then it dawned on me that I am putting one small drop of paint and about 4-5 times the amount of medium.

I reckon I will get her finished sooner rather than later… well plucking up the courage to do the eyes may take a while, so look for July 2025 as a rough plan.
