Tonight I Was Going to Paint These…

Please note the ‘was’ there. Everything is either aching or hurting so painting was cancelled. I was looking forward to having a go at painting tiger striped uniforms. Last time I tried that was in the late 90’s.

The civilian and VC were there as a ‘now you have finished the hard bit’ interlude.

Hopefully tomorrow will be a better day.

Run Through the Jungle

Today I printed off a few more miniatures from the Nam range. US Forces on the left VC troops on the right.

I decided to see what they would look like and will get them sprayed tomorrow ready for some painting.

The dude sitting at the back is a door gunner for one of the Huey’s. I am going to do the main vehicles on the FDM machine with the fiddly bits done on the resin machine.

I will let you know how I get on.

Thoughts on Sponsorship

This is going to be a bit of a rambling stream of consciousness kind of a post.

As you know, if you follow my blog, that I paint little toy men and goblins (among others). If you just popped by, then hello and thank you.

So this said hobby of mine can get a little expensive, add in a printer and after the initial outlay then it can become a bit cheaper. Paints, flock glue etc bumps the price a bit too.

I opened my Geek club in school where the kids paint models that I print for them. I support them by using the tools and resin. There are six of them and each one of them wrote to a company to see if they would help us out in any small way they could. Would you like to guess how many bothered to reply?

Zero,

We only chose companies that I have spent hundreds of pounds with. Not one even bothered to reply.

Now, I know that my little school with its little website isn’t going to make any companies their millions, but it is half a dozen 10 year olds who are getting into the hobby . One is moving onto pastures new and bless her on Friday she was making a list of the companies I got my stuff from.

I have written to the company we get our paints from. I did send a bit of a begging letter to see if they could send us some paint so we can get her a good start keeping up her hobby that she loves. My little club has spent nearly £200 getting paints etc. from them. Sadly I am not holding my breath.

Every other YouTube channel I watch has these companies firing out free stuff to people. One guy I watched was up to his third 3D printer.

Now this may seem that it is sour grapes and to some extent it is, not for me, but for a little group if six kids who wrote letters instead of painting miniatures. I did advise them that people might not be able to help, but to not answer in my books is pretty shitty.

Here endeth the rambling B.S. for today

Test Prints

This evening I got the Nam test miniatures off the printer…

They have come out fine. Now one of the civilians has no feet. I am going to check to see if they have feet on the image… it might be that they are meant to be in paddy fields so feet are not necessary… not sure. I am sure I could pinch feet off other civilians to befeet her if needed.

We have two special forces, two civilians, two regular army and an Air Cav officer who likes surfing. The guy having a lie down is a VC casualty.

I have a couple of niggles with these, first being the supports are pretty chunky and didn’t come of as easily as I would have expected (compared to some of my other manufacturers). Second is, although I kind of like the chunky aesthetic, the running dude on the right is not much taller than the kneeling dude on the left.

I will have a play around with sizes tomorrow and see what I think. I am looking forward to painting tiger stripes on the special forces.

Printing not Painting

Yesterday the Nam Kickstsrter dropped, so this evening I downloaded all the goodies, had a good look and then printed some. Sadly they aren’t ready yet so I’ll have to show them to you tomorrow

The above are the US special forces.

A Smidge on the Goblins

I didn’t really make myself a lot of time to paint this evening… but I did a little bit:

Now the shaman in the centre has reminded me of someone for absolutely ages… I just couldn’t put my finger on who. This evening the clouds parted and the recollections streamed through…

Yes, I know he looks nothing like the wise old elf from the TV show… but somehow to me he does. If I hadn’t already painted the hood yellow then it would be painted blue.0

Goblins

Still aching like mad, luckily no washing machines to move today, but the hot water tank overflow kicked in at 22.00 so I have fastened the ball cock up and turned off the boiler. I will get a new ballcock tomorrow.

I did manage to get some paint on some goblins today…

We have a leader, left. Three frogherds and a shaman on the right.

Hopefully I will get some more done tomorrow evening.

Washing Machines ARE Heavy

Well if you remember I wrote a couple of days ago that I am in constant aches. Removing the old washing machine from the house and putting a new one in certainly didn’t help with this. We checked the weight on the new one… 75kg.

The old one went out the front door (which because I am in a croft house is narrow), the new one wouldn’t come in the same way so we had to take it right the way through the conservatory in one direction and right the way back through the house in another.

I now cannot move and luckily Esther and Sam are doing the horse as I am stuck in the car groaning.

Hopefully it will have eased off by tomorrow.

Goblin Twins

Well okay, they aren’t. But they might have been. I worked on this pair today…

I made a balls up in the left hand face, redid the undercoat and seem to have lost a lot of detail. I will try and remember how to do highlights!

I really must crack on with the goblins as I have at least thirty six infantry to get painted. Not to mention three more Mordheim gangs and a pile more undead.
