Well I worked on the druid this evening. I managed to get paint in various places that it shouldn’t be. A couple of them will be hidden when I paint the bits. The absolute sod is that I got it under her chin!
You can see the green on her chin and also a khaki colour on the top of her head. Extremely miffed by my incompetence.
As you can see I decided on a more autumnal look for the leaves.
Well my weekend office arrived and I spent a couple of hours in a digger trying to flatten the track out. I will need another run at it tomorrow as I did miss some bits, well technically I didn’t miss them as I wanted everything to settle before having another go tomorrow.
Whilst hunting for my work gloves I came upon a box of Maltesers that one of the children gave me as a leaving present. They didn’t rattle much when I picked them up… I now have chocolate modern art…
I did manage a smidge of painting on the druid Loreil… I really, really couldn’t be bothered, but I forced myself to do one small bit.
I went for a pale green for her top, well I thought it befitted a druid. A couple of things are going through my head as I look at this… autumn or summer for the leaves and the original art has the butterfly as some kind of a glowing ethereal creature… not sure if I am up to object source lighting yet, especially not at this scale… something to ponder down the road.
So 7th July was my birthday and I have been on this planet 58 years and 6 days. I got some very cool presents from everyone including a DNA test thing… I am hoping for Hungarian or somewhere like that. Bound to have Scandinavian in there as most of the North of the UK do. I also got a lovely piece of Trench Art from 1916.
Some shell casing for the blade, bullet for the handle with a tunic button on the side for decoration. It also has a smaller button as a finial. Very cool.
I wonder what happened to the maker, did he make it home? Is this his legacy, bought for a stranger in an antique shop?
Hopefully it really meant something to someone and was their pride and joy. For me, I love it.
Well, my Polymyalgia decided to give me a bit of a kicking today. All I did was take the dog for a walk this morning and then moved a hen run and dug a 30cm wide by 50cm deep hole. I actually needed to go and lie down.
So this evening we made a start on the first adventure in Heroquest. We Actually only managed three rooms as we started late and needed to go through the rules.
Combat takes place again in room three!
Luckily no-one died, but our duce were not really in our favour. Evidently Zargon had cursed them for us! We enjoyed it though and luckily found enough healing potions to help keep us alive.
This evening I decided I had better get my finger out and make a start on Loreil Softvale. I went for a ‘dwarf skin’ colour this time as opposed to the ‘crusader skin’ I used on Mizzi
I also got Grace the Pirate cured and here she is in all her glory.
As the great, late Frankie Howard said in Up Pompei…”don’t point those at me dear, they may go off!”
Now I have definitely had a problem with this print as there is a ‘scar’ above her right eye and I must have missed a support under her right arm as there was a little damage there too.
To be brutally honest I should have oriented her in a different way on the build plate as the supports have left some damage on her chin. Nothing a bit of sanding wouldn’t solve, but annoying anyway.
Well Mizzy is just about finished so I decided to undercoat Loreil Softvale the Druid.
I need to highlight the orb and tidy up a few areas on Mizzy. After two print failures on the warlock bust yesterday, I decided to do the supports myself. Today was a success!…Ahh the joys of 3D printing!
We still haven’t played Heroquest yet… hopefully soon.
Well I eventually bit the bullet and decided to go for Heroquest. I had this game when it first came out and absolutely loved it. I even took it to Wales with me when I worked there as a summer job. It was so popular in the Hostel that I ended up making two new characters one was definitely a thief, I know for definite as I found rhe card I made. I think the other was a druid. I must admit this was a nostalgic journey, really helped by the cheap price I managed to get it for.
I haven’t really watched any YouTube discussions or unboxing videos so I was going in a bit blind and was honestly a little worried that it was going to be something similar to what GW did to Necromunda (I just hope they keep their mitts off Mordheim).
I shouldn’t have worried, apart from the miniatures it looks really, really similar.
The one major difference is in the furniture and doors is that they are all plastic rather than the card and plastic of the original.
The miniatures have some total differences. The Fimir have gone and are replaced by Abominations… basically fishmen.
There are four heroes and thirty one monster miniatures.
8 orcs – there seem to be 4 male and 4 females.
6 goblins
3 abominations
4 dread warriors
1 Dread sorcerer
1 gargoyle
4 skeletons
2 zombies
2 mummies
I am really tempted to paint everything 🙂
The miniatures are made of a soft plastic, not like the original hard plastic of the original.
Hopefully the kids will enjoy it as much as I did.
