Manes and Tails

This evening I blasted through the dark manes and tails on the horses.

I still have the lighter ones to do, eight of the plastics. Then I need to make a start on the metal ones.

Aliens – Fireteam Elite

Well when I was South I picked up the game for £12. This evening I decided to give it a try. The premise was cool. Third person Alien shooter, various missions co-op or single player.

Frankly, I was disappointed. Now it definitely isn’t Alien Isolation, this one is more of a shooter and for me it got boring very quickly. I persevered and got a fair old way through the first mission, managing to fire around a  whopping 1500 rounds on the old pulse rifle. That in itself says it all… disclaimer… my accuracy wasn’t brilliant on the swarm levels!

I stopped using the pulse rifle and switched to my shotgun for those close encounters.

Basically the game is as follows:

The game contains four story campaigns with three missions each, and the player is accompanied by two allies who can be controlled by another player or by an AI. There are five levels of difficulty and twenty types of enemies, and weapon customization and character progression are present within the game.

The synthetic marines were quite interesting. Sadly there were some other synthetics in the game that reminded me of the Working Joe’s in Isolation. At least these ones fell over when shot.

I will play some more this weekend and see what I think. I basically got it for further ideas for my Aliens RPG.

Down a ‘Horse’ Rabbit Hole

Well this evening I decided to see what horses I had knocking about either online or on hard drives. This quick little job took longer than expected. I do think I will have something to make up another six heavy knights though.

On a totally different note, this is the view inside my new school…

I decided to pop in when it was empty.

My Claymore Haul

Well as promised here is what I purchased whilst off gallivanting.

So left to right:

A couple of Victrix Roman Legionary sets (one advancing, the other attacking). These will be used against my celtic types. Yes I know, they should probably be late republican, but hey, this was my first reenactment period so I am biased.

Middle top four 1p movement trays that cost me 20p a shot. Some Game Forge spray paint to try out and some mdf casualty markers.

Top right- some Perry metals. The only mounted Hundred Years War command pack that was left (well that I could see anyway). This one has Jean D’Arc, La Hire and the B*stard of Orleans (Jean de Dunois). These really need a good clean up.

An ox cart suitable for the Romans and below that a 6-8mm ruined city block set. I have decided to get out my 6mm road wars stuff and try to get it all finished.

Part of me wishes I had picked up a set of Roman Auxiliaries, but these came in separate cavalry, spear armed and bow armed sets. It would have helped to have had smaller pack sizes. I could have got a Pack of light field artillery too. If I had have got the above then the Romans would have outnumbered the barbarians.

As I mentioned in Saturday’s post. I really could have spent a whole lot more money.

Tomorrow my Wife and two eldest head off on their trip. My son and I are going to binge watch as many war films as we can… starting with one of these: ‘The Guns of Navarrone’, ‘The Longest Day’, ‘The Battle of Britain’ or ‘Zulu’. Starting with the classics.

D+1 Heading Home

Well that is it, we are on the boat heading out of sight of Aberdeen, in fact it is pretty much lost in the haze.

We should be getting into Lerwick around 07.00 tomorrow.

It’s expected a one metre swell up to Orkney and then a one to two metre swell through the Fair Isle channel.

D-DAY

Well we got to Claymore super early and managed to have a good mooch about while people were setting up.

I got some shots of some of the games before the doors opened, meant to take more and totally forgot… too busy spending money or pondering whether or I should get something, in some cases my choice wad helped by someone else choosing before me.

I did consider Warlord’s ‘Epic’ Punic wars army. At one end Of the hall Warlord had it for £240 and at the other end of the hall N independent had it for £180… but only one of them. Luckily someone else got there first. I can do the wars in 2 and 6mm so didn’t need another set.

We also had a little participation game run by Warbases. It was a fun little Dungeon crawl…

The mdf tiles are pre coloured and they were for sale… I managed to stop myself buying them. The Miniatures were from Bifrost Miniatures.

I came away with a nice little haul, or should that be a medium sized haul!

I could have easily come back with a massive haul.

Once I get back I will show you what I got.

My son was especially chuffed as I persuaded him to keep visiting the Bring and Buy tables (people had their own this time). He managed to blag himself a pair of big GW Kinights for £50… saving a whopping £160! Up to that point he had been flagging a bit, but was perked up by his purchase.

All in all we were there about five hours. Six if you include pre opening.

Now I wasn’t there last year, but it did seem quieter than last time. Some of the traders thought the same too. Maybe the crowds had spent up at Carronade which by all accounts of said traders was rammed.

D-1

So we left the boat at 07.30 this morning and headed down to Dundee for Breakfast. Then off to ‘World of Wings’

We ended up heading over to Glasgow to IKEA as sadly the hotel is a bit of a dive and we didn’t fancy spending too long in it. I have now booked somewhere else for tomorrow ecening

All Undercoated

Well I decided against scabbards and visors. Scabbards because I really couldn’t be bothered to faff about with them. The visors were because I had actually chosen a lot of the models with them already there.

So I really doubt I will be touching these until I get back from the show on Monday. I will need to pack and get sorted during the day, not to mention try to work out what I need to pick up…(not want- as they are very different lists).

To be honest I actually don’t know what i need apart from some more bases! Bloody expensive bases if that is all I buy.

Final six Knights

Well the final six were built about twenty minutes ago. The six remaining heavies were armed with hand weapons. Well five were, the sixth is a banner bearer.

Now to be honest I am in a bit of a quandary, do I bother with the sword scabbard and visors or not…

Something to ponder before undercoating them all.

All twenty four of them…

I have been doing bits and pieces on my druid bust too.

The leaves have taken on a more autumnal hue than the previous iteration.
