Foot Soldiers

This evening I got the part painted foot soldiers finished…

Now with these I did cut a few corners. I didn’t bother doing every strap and piece of rope. But they are done and that is what I am wanting. I don’t think I have any other Gallian’s undercoated.

Tomorrow I think I will blast on with the Part finished skeletons i found when looking for my big Sharpie.

A Pair of Knights

Tonight I got the two knights finished … well I still need to do a shield for each. But the bulk is done for this pair.

I also got a bit done on the foot soldiers…

These still have a whole load to do, but at least all of them have some paint on them.

I am going to have to print some shields, even though I said I wasn’t going to print anything new for a while… I need the shields to finish these.

More Painting

Well keeping to my word I did more painting this evening…

As I splurged too much AP plate metal out I also hunted the shelves for anything that needed doing metallic.

This pair are nearly done, I still have at least a couple of knights like these to do, the Joan of Arc type as well as all the foot. Probably Goblins after that as they are undercoated.

A Chat About Horses

So as you may or may not know, I have horses and used to do reenactment riding… here I am….

So as you might understand I sort of know one end of a horse from the other. So I was a bit perturbed when I got sent this picture of one of GW’s mounted blokeys from the Cities of Sigmar range. The lad who sent it was all excited about it… my first thought was WTF is that. Now I know it is fantasy, and I know it technically may not be a horse but seriously that head!

I actually wondered if it was an optical illusion, but if it is it affects all of the range and also from different angles…It also has super long legs. Disclaimer here… the rest of the miniature is really nice… I just don’t get what went so wrong with the Shetland Pony head on the Shire horse body… GW horses, although stylized were pretty good from what I remember. Second Disclaimer… if I tried this it wouldn’t look like a horse, but I am not trying to sell things.

This evening I printed off a horse and rider from Highland Miniatures…

This is one of the Knights I painted earlier on…

And a couple more

Appropriately sized heads.

So was I ever going to buy into Cities of Sigmar… nope… this is not GW bashing … well okay it technically is, but the foot soldiers and even the dogs are really nice, it is actually just the mounts that I have an issue with.

I really want somebody to come on and say woah Steve, they ain’t horses they are the lesser headed Quaga as bred by Sigmar himself. If they do I will happily apologise.

I recognise the skill in what someone produced, I really just wish they had looked at a photograph of a horse in Gothic Plate.

Cute Bugs

Well this evening my good lady eventually left me alone and I managed to get these finished…

The necklace one has its string on, sadly I cannot find the earring bits!

I managed to get some Japanese civilians done to go alongside the Ikko Ikki and Onna Bushi.

Printing not Painting

This evening I was knackered… the poly myalgia does make me tired at times. So rather than lots of swearing as I was trying to paint anything. Instead I went for an easy win and stuck miniatures to bases.

My chap to be is in the front with the boat on the helmet. It originally had a sword in it… but I removed it. Sadly I removed the tail too. I managed to use an old Mordheim archer arm to repair the damaged print (second from left).

I will get these sprayed tomorrow and hopefully get on with the painting.

A Knight and a Goblin

So this evening I set about adding the metallics to the knight and his pair of foot soldiers. I got a bit heavy handed on the gun metal so looked for anything I could to avoid wasting the paint. I found a box of various bits and found my armoured bear and a couple of goblins. Basically anything that needed a metallic colour got some.

I will hopefully carry on tomorrow and get the shading and highlights done on the armour.

This weekend I am embarking on a project I never though I was going to do…

I am super annoyed that a whole pile of my Contrast Paints have dried up. I maybe haven’t used them for three months and I am going to have to bin a lot.

I used to say I preferred the pots as you can shove your brush in and get the amount you need, but at £4.50 a pot I reckon I have nearly lost £50 worth of paint. Pretty miffed about it to be honest.

So watch this space and listen for my fell voice on the wind as I drop pots, knock over bottles etc.

It’s All About Me!

This evening I decided to slap some paint on the third Knight. As discussed the other day I went for my reenactment livery.

So this time I used my old favourite… Contrast. However there were some issues…. Dah, Dah, Daahhhh!!

As you probably noticed I haven’t exactly been going hammer and tongs with my painting over the last three or four months. Because of this a whole pile of my contrast is now the equivalent of coloured tar. Luckily for me the livery colours had unopened pots so I managed a speedy paint job.

I was pleased with how they went on, sadly though the ‘Black Legion’ isn’t really Contrast in the same way as the others are.

The big question I am now pondering is whether I actually start to replace my Contrast or go Xpress and Speedpaints…. Watch this space.

A Pony, A Dwarf and a Ruffian…

Walk into a bar…. Well okay maybe not.

I managed another bit of painting this evening and got these finished.

I am quite pleased with myself as I was really not wanting to do anything. I started with the pony and as I had paint on the palette I moved onto the dwarf, ditto with him so a third miniature was done.

These were all done with Speedpaints 2.0. I had less problem with bleeding this evening… so either I am getting more used to them or I shook the pots more.

A Bit of a Knight Mare

This evening I came up with a bit of a cunning plan to test out the XPRESS paint and Speedpaints. So as you may have seen in an earlier post I printed a knight. I now have two,..I am going to paint one in one range and another in the second range. This will give me a bit of an idea as to how they compare on larger miniatures…

So this is a start with the Xpress paint. The blue was thinned with four drops of the Vallejo Medium.

The second one will be a reverse of the above. I still have my original GW Brettonian water slide transfers.

I still have to work out how to do the quarters on the knight.

The tabard on the body is easy, these ones have the long bits covering the legs.
